well the latest in SA is drag racing and u get caught 3 years behind bars. they finaly (should have done this years ago) by looks of things putting power/car restrictions to under 25. now i just heard this from a younger guy at work 22 and hes pissed, as he was planing to get a v8 next year. not sure what details and what limits but apperenlty it starts 1 September. i wonder what happens to the ones that are under 25 and probably own a restricted car? forced to sell or will they have exemptions? RE:bob jane hes a tool...... track been closed since 2004

Nice love the handbrake mod. I don't see the AWD hump on the side of the tunnel for the transfer case. Not doing that now? How did u go with repositioning the front diff? Ie oil pick up issue and engine bracket/mount? The original brackets will be in the way of the diff. Were u thinking of making new brackets to sit behind or infront of the diff? Btw how much room at the back from diff to floor. Would ATTESSA pumps/solenoids fit under like in gtr or have to install them elsewhere. I know too many questions for something u probably not pursuing anymore sorry, but you are the best source that I can find. Just trying to figure out few things that I've seen that may be bit of a pain going AWD. Can't wait to see some colour on that beast of a car keep us updated

yeah calaisturbo is good site. i think the turbo block has extra webing but i havent realy seen it in person just from what i heard. obviously the compression is lower on the Turbo model and cam injectors etc....... from experience ive turboed a CA18DE in a silvia. this was quite straight forward job. done in a weekend. had turbo manifold and turbo and all fittings. needed a turbo sump as it had turbo oil return attachment on it. replaced the ECU for turbo one, turbo injectors, turbo fuel pump. all up cost maybe $750 with second hand turbo. the transformation was unbeliavable. with 8psi wirtualy no lag but there was a distinctive push at higher revrange. driven the car myself to do the job. a 83 accord cleaned me off the line. (very embarrising) did the conversion everything ran like it was there from factory. my relative spent bit more cash on it big front mount and engine oil cooler and remmaped ecu ( some 600 extra) and got 180kw at the wheels running 15psi boost on stock NA CA18DE. 140kw with original stock setups from CA18DET parts. and while was NA he got like 75kw. suprisingly to me 15months of thrashing never had an issue with it. sold the car. drivability was quite good as the lag was reduced (though i like my lag) its the quiet eerie bit before the big storm. so yeah turboing an NA sure is a good thing. best $750 my cousin spent on his silvia and almost doubling the power.

Dave. i spent 3.5 years building the z. out of those 3.5 years ive put 3 cars together none which were mine. ive maybe spent 6months solid at one stage on the car everything else was in between projects. now im stuck arguing with builders for dodgey and incomplete work and try to get my biggest project of them all completed so i can play with the Z...... Ahhhh ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Yeah interesting vents. Mate if need any help/pointers let me know. Can't help u with carby problem as I hate the damn things and as far as I'm concerned should be used as land fill or scrap metal. Did u see the car/pics before buying?

There are kits in the US to make life easier. Problem is u guys have the steering wheel on the wrong side which complicates things as the twin turbos are on the same side. That's why when u see a US rb26 conversion motor leans to left to give more clearance to the steering rod. While Japanese and Rhd cars engine sits straight. Other than the kit u can get from US u need a modifed sump of a 3l rb30 patrol or z31 200zr with oil pik up or u make up a custom one. I did see that with mounting kit sometimes they supply. The sump as well. Other than that transmission mount needs to be modified or new one made to suit the rb25det gbox. After that is tailshaft. Brakes, fuel system, electrical systems ecu, intercooler etc...

geez u guys a dodgey. Ive redone my 2pce ones. u got good quotes as the mob i asked wanted 150. thats to remove clean up and respray in basic colours only ie no metalics pearls etc.... and refit. took me 20min per wheel to remove the bolts. about same to refit. now since yours are 3 piece u probably need to redoo the seal between the two halfs of the dish.(if its true 3pce) i think they just use some sort of silicone seal. or maybe u dont have to split it. prob pics will help if u post. than i sanded the centers smooth and did ur normal painting like u would a car anyway. polished the dish as it was lot easier, cleaned the bolts and refitted it all. if u not skilled or dont have equipment most crash repairers will charge 20-50 for painting depends on colour. and that would be 2pk. once u remove and prepare the centers. bring it home bolt it all up like u would a wheel. ie do in stages and do it diagonaly. once all finger tight u tourque it. thats if u want to restore them properly. or if u want quick/cheap/bodgy job do what other guys said. finished job will reflect the quality of work. cheap=crap may as well do it properly expecialy if they are decent rims.

damn i missed that one o well here is another one NO SPEAKAH DE ENGLISH A bus stops and 2 Italian men get on. They sit down and engage in an animated conversation. The lady sitting next to them ignores them at first, but her attention is galvanized when she hears one of them say the following: Emma come first. Den I come. Den two asses come together. I come once-a-more! . Two asses, they come together again. I come again and pee twice. Then I come one lasta time.' The lady can't take this any more, You foul- mouthed sex obsessed pig,' she retorted indignantly. 'In this country. we don't speak aloud in Public places about our sex lives. 'Hey, coola down lady,' said the man. 'Who talkin' abouta sex? I'm a justa tellin' my frienda how to spell ' Mississippi '.' $50.00 says you're gonna read this again

yeah Dimitri you are closer to the mark. ive just sent my RB with gearbox and quite a few extra bits and it was 350kg with the pallet. may look into this transport company. though wasnt planning finding a motor so soon. small issue of space at my end. need to clean up the wrecked Z and few other bits. plus my trailer is fully loaded with the new running gear.

personaly ill get the car cleaned up and looking good and running good with what u got. than u can update things that YOU think are necessary down the track. as time goes on you change your plans and ideas so dont dwell too much on them. get it going and enjoy it. once u get bored than time to spice things up a bit you have more knowledge and better direction which you want to head down. personaly twin turbo is more of a wank factor.. yeah sure two smaller turbos give u bit more power and better drivability than one huge one. but there is two of them extra cost for not much extra performance. though i have been in a skyline with RB20det with turbo size that can swallow small children. yeah made 400gazilion kws but it hit at 5500rpm and than it was all over at 7000rpm. yeah it hit like few tons of bricks but for very short time. not usable at all besides dyno shootouts. you will find lot on info on the forum and lot of guys will help you out with L, RB, SR, 1JZ,V8 and latest addition is a 20B rotary Z too. so we got them all good luck and enjoy the build make sure u put progress pics. some of us like to check them out during work hrs

hahahahah maygZ u got me laughing my head off in front of 30odd ppl I work with. Gold yeah won't go into debate l vs rb though my style is not smoking and suffocating the opposition but rear end squating and exhaust scraping while the front is lifted closer to the sky, and me waving bye bye. Anyway for a p plater L is handfull as is. Also light L mods are fairly easy and affordable. Once u get more experience and dosh u will cross over to the dark side u will see.
-
AHHHHH again L vs RB debate. i think we got a post on that. interesting plans. prob too young for RB/SR conversion u either loose ur liscence, or kill yourself in it or somone else. as for original steer is fine if u using original pizza cutter wheels and tyres. but ask any of the guys with 17"x8" with 235 tyres and drive the car daily. it won't be fine. u be sick of it within a week. so running bigger wheels and tyres and driving it as a daily u will hate it. dont forget most of the Z here aren't daily driven with exceptions of few.so driving it once a week without power steer makes no diff. as for loos of feel from my experience is incorrect. made no diff except when u parking the car u can do it with one finger. from memory aren't 260c/280c steering box and rear mount arangement? bit like the 280zx? if thats the case it wont fit. cause if it was the case im sure almost every z would have that conversion. now if the car was imaculate and had original engine etc... i prob be against doing mods etc... it be better to preserve it as original. but if ain't ill just go wild. do what u want. as for perfomance yeah u could clean up a FG ute that weighs almost more than a sedan with an L. but even with RB20DET u can clean up the big brother FPV GT and the HSV monsters and still give u an average of 10L per 100km. like to see even a stock L give u that economy. btw tell ur boss to get his head out of the dark ages. i bet u he drives a later model car with power steer, a/c and leather seats etc.... so if hes so tuff why doesnt he drive his 1960 or 70s classic with no PS or A/C daily and not once a year. oh thats right hes a pussy. bird may poop on it. anyway welcome.

so tempting. what does a L26 with manifold carbs etc.. weigh?? may get some transport cost to see if its viable for me.
-
Lurch re:rocker cover did the PO change the cover or is it the one that come with the car? y i ask is cause mine is 227 and i got the same cover as you. maybe the OZ had those while yanks had the 2400 one. if not true ill be after one as well. LOL
-
hmm this is tempting if u were in SA no problems. but i got to pay for shipping more than for the engine. post pics maybe throw me over the edge. For pics also set u digital camera on smaller MP. for interenet 1MP is big enough even less. but do what Stevo said. open pic in paint-> Image->Strech/Scew or (CTRL W) if 2mp pic i use around 30-50% both on vertical and horizontal (under strech tab) than save as Jpg and files should be around 100-200kb each.

All painted John? hurry up pics.....

get chummy with someone in rego department. cheapest option as long as its still in your state once it leaves may be hard tracking it down (then u need to get chummy again....) other option maybe an add in the paper or carsales. after a white jag S2 year 5spd etc....... maybe bit of a story and u never know. u may get a call from someone that owns it.

inherited my old mans sidchrome set both sockets and spanners. these are classic 70s tools Made in Australia ones. still work very good after rebuiding countless engines in 20year plus while he was working. i bought myself whole stanley set (1/2/ 3/4 and 1/4 drive sets) used it now for 6years and still damn good. though i did manage to wreck the 1/4 drive ratchet ( bolt broke and droped the socket through exhaust. short fused and the ratchet went flying to the concrete)replaced it with sidchrome one. got KC tools ratchet spanner set and a mechpro (bought it from repco suprisingly good still didnt manage to kill them) also few repco bits and pieces and snap on. if goign to buy again would look at Sidchrome or KC or Repco. Snap On is nice but so is the money. Powerbuild only got a spark plug socket used it once but quality looks very good.
