  1. I'm with you now, thanks. I thought you may have had some rotating nuts which have been discussed on the forum before.
  2. Hi mate, Any photos of what you're selling?
  3. Yeah but asking you if they need rust work is like asking my hairdresser if I need a haircut or my scarf dealer if I need more scarfs.
  4. If I had the space I might be tempted.. but I'd probably rather build a 432-R replica over the restomod 3.4L stroker (money permitting of course!). Yeah fair call, I had originally intended to turn HS30 00150 into a rat rod and just drive it with the patina on display, but my OCD got in the way and as you dig you find more issues. It is sometimes easier, better to just do it right the first time. But time/money and goals all play a role.
  5. I've gone with both approaches. My white 71 and red 72 are both rolling restorations. Where as #51 will be full concourse restoration and #150 will be done to a high standard, but maybe not full concourse like #51. It will be more of a modded 240z for fun but with the early bits I like.
  6. Not but I can measure it next time I'm in the garage. I still need to soak mine in something to try and free it up so each section extends. My cable is ok, but I worry given it's 50 years old it may eventually snap from fatigue or age. So having a suitable replacement might be a good start.
  7. The test will be the longevity of it... re-chroming ain't cheap. But I was blown away by how good mine came back from AA Vinnies in Dandenong. https://www.vinneys.com.au/ Hopefully your Vietnamese ones work well.
  8. Found this. https://www.jdmjunkies.ch/wordpress/2017-12-20/240z-inspection-lamp-refurbishment-rework-assembly/
  9. Hi Paul, I found a switch on eBay. A member here sent me a link to it. Can't recall who the seller was now though.
  10. Yeah I managed to get a new switch for mine, a little fiddly to replace.
  11. If you get paywalled search for heading in Google and click through to article from Google search results page. https://www.afr.com/wealth/investing/a-classic-way-to-turbocharge-an-investment-portfolio-20210504-p57oth
  12. Hello visitor from Tampa, FL - Please create an introductory post within the next 24 hours. Otherwise I'll be removing your account. Sorry but due to spam/scammers. We need to verify and validate new members - especially outside of Australia.
  13. You can get them professionally repaired.eg: http://olschoolgarage.com.au/leons-blog-2/2017/2/21/stainless-steel-trim-repair
  14. I had this discussion with @OdinZand I thought that was about fair market value at today's prices. But perhaps seller was hoping for more like $45k? Not a lot of choice out there at the moment on the market. But this seems like better value: https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/1975-datsun-260z-22-manual/SSE-AD-7129427/?Cr=5 But only this morning it was under offer, now back? hmm..
  15. Lindsay Drife at @Z Shop Performancehas the following motors. Which I've cross checked and place in cars with serial numbers in following areas: L24-029624 - Would have been in HS30 005XX range. L24-052485 - HS30-01190 has L24-052484 - so a VIN # close to that is likely to have had L24-052485 L24-091184 - HS30-11XXX - so a 72 model beginning in that range. L24-018626 - Is fairly early. I'm guessing it will be out of a 70 240z with HS30 002XX range. I hope I made someone's lucky day.
  16. I looked at rare spares a while ago and couldn't find ones that looked OEM. Aside from the ones above which look similar, but obviously a little different. No idea if they work?
  17. The shoe shine boy moment.
  18. Spoken like someone that owns a French car. Haha.
  19. To be fair I actually thought asset prices would drop also, but central banks just printed money to infinite and in that Environment there is just too many dollars chasing too few assets. A lot of people are still doing it tough. I was lucky to land a job mid pandemic, but at considerable pay cut compared to what I was earning prior. Some people made more money than ever though, since they were in the right business or on the receiving end of Government giveaways. Gerry Harvey is a pr1ck if you ask me. Hate that bloke haha. But alas life is not fair is it? What worries me is the can't lose mentality some people have when investing. Like old mate with the EK? Wagon? Reckons he will double his money in a few years? Well I'm not sure the next generation loves the old Holden wagons as much as the boomers did. Everything looks a bit frothy to me at the moment. But of course where do you park your money? Interest rates are 0% so people are even investing in Dogecoin haha. How this all ends I don't know, but timing any crash is almost impossible so I don't try anymore. I just try not to stick my neck out too far for fear of it being cut off. My experience in 08 Ireland has somewhat scarred me in that I saw a lot of people lose everything or face significant negative equity. At the time I bought my FD RX7 for 5,000 euro. I could have bought a few others for as low as 3,000 euro. 1 guy was desperate to sell as he was moving to Australia for work at the time. I guess my point is, you can look to the past to try predict the future but just because something happened in the past doesn't meant things will play out the same in the future. I was holding off buying a house convinced with debt levels the way they were and the market hype the way it was that we were in a massive bubble. But in the end I gave in and bought becuse I realised there are too many vested interests trying to keep prices up and that only small corrections are tolerated before Government steps in with more incentives to pump the market. I'm sure 1 day they will run out of tricks, but that could be another 5-10 years away and I'm hoping I'll have the house close to paid off by then. I honestly think what's being destroyed is the purchasing power of money via inflation, but the way inflation is currently being measured is not representative of what's really going on.

  21. Sold for $80,000 USD. interesting given the resto mods. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1973-datsun-240z-158/
  22. Preaching to the converted.
  23. Can source them new from Japan, which will probably work out cheaper than buying an old set in need of a rebuild? Just won't get the Sumitomo cast into them for copyright reasons.
