Insane. 350 hp is just amazing for a NA L-series engine running on carbs.  What else can one say??  I reckon this equates to just over 400hp in the northern hemishpere. :P

What compression and final timing is this running?  What gains do you think you could have gotten with a 1 and 3/4" primary header?

Posted

the specs were

10.3 comp

timing was  34 total 20 static

cam is 654a wade ,  and it made know sence it had to be run very retarded , lots more lift on the exhust at tdc

yer it would make more with bigger pipes  how much i dont know

well Simon , its right up there 290fps at 5000rpm and top hp at 7000, 350hp was the end  with the pipes we had .

and i think as a street car it will be very fast  lol

So for those of us who either aren't engine builders, or live on the 21st century.......  :P

290ft/lbs is about 393Nm

350hp is about 261kW

From a 3.4L 6 cylinder :o

Just watched classic restos, they were talking 400hp from a 5.7L  ::)

Plleeeaaasssseeeeee...... They should be putting out 586hp to keep the same power efficiency  8)

Awesome work Peter and Les  ;)

Think I'm out of smiley faces  ;D

This engine is insane, maybe when I get sick of the power in mine I can upgrade to one of these, might need to find somewhere else to live though after the missus kicks me out.  ;D

And they do with a cam the equivelent of this one, at that would be at the wheels power not flywheel.

Awesome effort regardless and full credit to the builder. Gunna be a blast to drive.

Blows my mind also, a certain Z workshop in Melbourne's owner once took me over to a yellow S30 race car with an L28 in it and claimed it put out around 400HP I didn't believe him at first. This makes it almost plausible, although I'm not sure if his skills were at Peter's level to be honest.

Lets not forget the extra capacityand stroke in this motor, that's how its making all that torque and extra hp.

Remember there is no replacement for displacement when we're talking N/A, so for a 3.2L or smaller to make 400hp is even harder. Not saying it cant be done but it would be a very highly developed motor running race fuel and a MASSIVE cam.

Well, the true test will be when it is all bolted together in a car with matched diff ratio, and box ratios, tyre sizing, correct suspension set up, a brake package, and it is put to it's paces around say Lakeside Raceway, or Morgan Park raceway, by someone who knows just how to peddle a car,,,,,,

That leads me to an interesting question. Pete, what do you think you could make out of a high comp version running on E85?

+1

Who's going to shell out the coin?  ???

well if it was 12.5 comp and run on 105 fuel  and the cam was 310 620 lift and pipes were 46 mm  and rpms were 8000

id need more air flow 6% more, and it would be 300lbs 400hp , it can be done  from 3.35  single cam
