I thought about trying to make up something to get oil pressure before start up. I decided to grind down the gear on a spare dizzy/oil pump spindle and welded a bolt into an old distributor. The idea is I will fit it all up and spin it with an impact gun, it will turn the oil pump without catching the crank worm gear. Hello oil pressure ????

Hopefully it works Gav, I'll know when it comes to start up time.

I had a little bit more play time today, I removed the modern radio I had but never used. In the space left I did a trial fit of the din plate from the garagesanmaru boys with some new Kameari gauges. The plate was mm perfect, thanks guys!

These oil temp, water temp, oil pressure gauges will be much more accurate than the factory gauges and it will be interesting to see if the 'HardBlok' half fill changes any of the normal operating temps.

I think I'll finish the din plate in wrinkle coat with a gloss black finish to tie it in with the dash a little better.

Hey Gareth , what's happening hear. Is it up and running. Haven't seen it on the track for a few years.

Hey Gordo, yeah she's up and running. Unfortunately life has gotten in the way, I haven't even finished running in the new stroker yet. My very, very, limited racing budget was used for the stroker build and some big life things have come along since so it has been parked in the shed except for a few small drives. Such a shame as its so nice to drive. I've actually thought about selling a few times recently but I know I'd regret it. Racing could be a long way off.

I've got to replace tyres, harnesses, cams license, get a new club license. Then there's all the small cost items preparing for the weekend.

I've bought a few small ticket items. I have some Biltsein shocks for the rear but they'll need a little work to fit when I get time. Today I managed to fit a new strut bar from T3. Really happy with the fitment, it's really lightweight too. Now being a bolt in item over the factory strut tops there is a small amount of play. I'm not keen to weld for obvious reasons but I was thinking if I can machine counter sinks on the bolt holes for the strut top brackets and then use factory tapered wheel nuts it should eliminate all slop and lock it all in super tight.... Thoughts?

EDIT: I also removed the white rim tape on the wheels a while back. The exterior was looking a little too busy so this cleans it up a little.

It's looking really nice Gareth. I understand how life gets busy. And the toys get put on hold. Don't sell it! Be good to see you enjoy it with all the work you've put in. May be this summer you might be able to make a few Datsun shows, there's lots to chose from now.

There's four zeds doing the Piarc sprint next weekend. That's the most at a meeting for a while. Cheers mate.

The shows are nice but I really prefer the race days where you get to test yourself and the car. I did build it to be flogged it's a little sad to just have it sit there.

Four doesn't sound like many, Who are the zed guys that are racing now?

It's a very poor copy I made up a while ago, I love the real ones but only God knows where or if you could even find one! I usually stamp it occasionally with some upgrades I do, I'll have to add 'LD3.1' to the engine and 'C/R 71C' to the trans sections. Edited by Gareth. J.

Shed time today ???? I have machined a counter sink into the strut tower brackets, I'll then be reinstalling the bracket with ATV wheel nuts (10x1.25 60deg taper). This will hopefully lock the brackets in position and not allow for any movement at all on the strut top studs.

I'll be changing the bracket colors to black, it'll blend everything in a bit better.

Little updates as not too much happening. I finished the strut brace brackets off with wrinkle black to blend into the colour scheme better. Also finished off the tapered seats for the retaining nuts.

I couldn't contain my excitement and I did a test fit of the new "Mach" steering wheel. It's AWESOME ???????????? and the finish/quality is just so good. I'm really really happy with the way it looks and feels in the car! The hand stitched leather smells so good, us poor Datsun drivers are used to the underwhelming smell of vinyl and exhaust gas.

The plan is to paint the larger "old dull" hub wrinkle black and then let the "Mach" adapter and wheel really pop!

Apologies for all the pics but it really is a beautiful thing

When you sell this 1 can i get first dibs again? Lol funny enough the competition wheel did smell of fuel. Not that I'm complaining of course. ????.

Wheel looks great. I doubt anyone else in Oz has 1 yet. Just need some Ikeda Bussan seats now. ????

This one will stay with the car forever I think. Everything in the car smells of petrol, I guess that's what happens when all you do is start ups in the garage. At least it didn't smell of huggies  ;D

Hahaha, I said that to my partner, her response was "no, you need to drive it". So true!

That wheel looks fantastic.

I would never have expected that style to look so darn good.

Cheers

Be sure to put your steering wheel nut on, I noticed something that looked like it on your ashtray in 1 of the pics.

Yeah will do, I just put it on quickly to see how it looked. I still have to paint the old hub before the wheel goes back on.

Is there clearance issues with your hands and the roll cage while turning the steering wheel?

Looks snug....

It's looks tight in the pics must be the angles I took the photos from. There's heaps of clearance though, the front bar is right up against the dash.

Got the hub painted wrinkle black, looks a lot neater now. The Mach wheel is fractionally bigger than the old compe one, it's makes the car much nicer to drive. The feel of the leather and the ease of steering at slow speed is a welcome change.

I had a spare NOS temp/oil gauge. I've changed out the face plates for the metric type from a 260z gauge, thanks Neubs. (Gauge on left side of pic). The Kameari triple gauge set is all metric so no everything will read the same.

Indicator switch might be on its way out, works but if turning right it needs to be held down ???? There's always something to do!

So.... this happened..

I still need to buy the hub (or momo hub + mach adaptor) and horn assembly...

First impression was, this is really really light. I expected it to weigh more like the stock wheel or compe wheel but it's incredibly light. Did you find the same?

I have to admit I liked the polished alloy look more, but the black is probably less common. I also didn't buy this new, traded it for something else so colour wasn't so much of an option.

Mine does not say "mach" on the front spoke (only has Mach on the underside of the bottom spoke), I believe there was a few variations however of this sort of "branding".

Not sure which S30Z to fit it to yet (first world S30Z problems I suppose).
