luvemfast Posted December 15, 2011 Author Posted December 15, 2011 Hope to catch up and say gidday in January meeting then, will be signing back in with my ZX I may be wrong, but NDSOC don't normally do a Jan meet. First one usually in Feb. Quote
luvemfast Posted December 19, 2011 Author Posted December 19, 2011 I was over at dads place last night and stuck my head in the garage at his Scuderia 280ZX. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,667.msg4228.html#msg4228 http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,8810.msg83900.html#msg83900 I noticed it had the extractors that are needed for the new race motor, 3" pipe too. Now all I need to do is convince him to swap the exhausts over Also, he took me for a drive in their new Winabago. Its pretty sweet. Think we've got our new tow vehicle to the race meets (just have to convince mum) Quote
Whoray Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Just got home from Xmas in Darwin and read this Simon. Dont think there's much chance she will let us use it as tow vehicle. We might be able to swap extractors, lets see how it goes first. Quote
luvemfast Posted March 24, 2012 Author Posted March 24, 2012 Jeebus It's been a while since the last update Took the Z to Winton in Jan for an MSCA event and Vic Super Sprint championship and won my first motorsport trophies, in class D (classic) Sure, there was only 1 other person to beat. It just happened to be my dad, in the same car. But I did it by beating my previous best time by 4 seconds and dads best by a tad over 6 What I did discover is that there is still lots of work to do to the car. I had some corner exit speed problems due to 2 main things. 1- Lack of camber on my front suspension geometry 2- Flat spotting @ around 3,500rpm oh and 3- the driver could be better So what do I do to combat this? That takes me to Lakes Entrance, where I was holidaying with my family a few weeks back. I get a call from Benny and his discovery on eBay, of a new listing of tuned headers/extractors. Buy it now price. Done! They had been on for half an hour before I was talking to the guy about delivery. As it turns out. These are a Peter Hall designed set, for a tarmac rally car using stock internals and triple 45mm Weber's. Punching out 270hp. SCORE But they were a bit too large in the ports for that car..... But mine is an L30, so perfect! Also at the last meet at Sulio's factory. Meet up with imackz (Iain), who mentioned he was upgrading his suspension. His current set up was firmer than mine, so arranged to grab that off him and try it in my car. So as it sits now..... My Z is now looking like it normally does. Up on stands, wheels off, suspension removed, carbs and exhaust off! I think that I need to look into some adjustable LCA's too. Does anyone have some 280ZX units they are willing to part with? Oh...... And the new pipes would have avoided the entire winged sump without needing modification. Quote
luvemfast Posted March 24, 2012 Author Posted March 24, 2012 I match ported the extractors to the head using marking blue and a die grinder. Also used the same techniques to match port the gasket........ which took well over an hour to do right! Just keep that in mind folks, if your paying guys to do the work for you. It sounds simple, but takes a lot of time to get right! Quote
benny Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 looks awesome man did your existing o2 fit in the bung?? Quote
luvemfast Posted March 24, 2012 Author Posted March 24, 2012 looks awesome man did your existing o2 fit in the bung?? There are 3 x O2 bungs in the secondaries. I have the O2 for the wideband in the single pipe, so it gets all the data from all the ports. If need be I can trouble shoot via the other 3. Quote
MaygZ Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 3- the driver could be better So now you only need to tighten the nut behind the wheel Quote
Riceburner Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 those headers look really nice! Are they a one off production? Quote
luvemfast Posted March 25, 2012 Author Posted March 25, 2012 those headers look really nice! Are they a one off production? Custom made. But can ask if he made a jig and can make more? I'm currently sitting in the emergency waiting room at the hospital. There was some fouling between the intake and exhaust, that required some grinding. The result....... Got a bit of swarf in my eye At least the car should go faster right? Quote
Riceburner Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 What were they worth if you don't mind saying? They look like they should work pretty well, aren't firing order headers the ultimate in performance....... I don't think you should use them Quote

C.A.R. Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 They are the same as the 'SW Motorsport' item's... Quote
luvemfast Posted March 25, 2012 Author Posted March 25, 2012 They are the same as the 'SW Motorsport' item's... Are you sure? They are a 2 piece system from memory :-\ Quote
C.A.R. Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 Are you sure? They are a 2 piece system from memory :-\ Correct, but the pipe design is near identical. Quote
luvemfast Posted March 26, 2012 Author Posted March 26, 2012 Looking to install a 3" exhaust system to go with the new headers. Given that my end flange exiting the extractors ia 2.5", I was thinking of utelising this as the first part of a "megaphone". I have researched and sourced what I want and where to get it from. It needs a 2.5"-3" cone, between 7-9°. It just so happens that there is a place in the USA that supplies both 7° (3.2" long) & 9° (4.1" long) variants @ $11 each. Now the question is...... which one do I get? maybe both Quote
d3c0y Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 What's with the hot air induction setup? How come you arent running the intake infront of the rad like factory? Quote

Roberto Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Simon, why didn't you just go the SW pipes? Interested to see how the 3" exhaust goes and sounds. Peter has been trying to convince me of the same, but I am scared stiff of that loud drone at 2000rpm on light throttle. Quote
