Replace the dovetails with the billet items - they are much stronger.

And have all the rusty parts you intend to get plated, hydrajet blasted first.

Sound advice

i'm sure not to everyones taste but am trying to replicate 50 year old car without the rust

So plan on using original unrestored parts and only use new when have no choice ie hoses ,bonnet, rubbers and mechanical components

Just a pity that I have so many little bits to get and the hoses are so expensive!!!!!

There's a bloke here in Brisbane making all the bushes for Zeds. I will find out details for you.

Most bushes you can still buy new from Nissan if you know the part numbers. The only exception I've found so far are the moustache bar bushings (which I used Whiteline insead of OEM).

A few bits sorted over last couple of months

Rebuilt drivers side hinges, repaired top of screen surround drivers side, cut out rust and repaired both doors

Removed a 2.0lt bucket of body filler from doors and removed most of the dents, used a shrinking disc on high spots works pretty well

welded up holes that had been left from slide hammer.

My welding is pretty ugly but seem to be solid think I might try .06mm easier on thin metal???

Its been a long time but thanks to the help and generosity of Lochy at C.A.R I've finished the rear valance and rear 1/4 repairs.

Lochy fabricated the valance and supplied the trim clips. Without the clips I couldn't moved forward as I couldn't position the trim.

The job would have been so much easier if I had a car to reference as photos are not really good enough, getting gaps right and shaping

the rear 1/4s was tedious.

Now that the rear is in primer I am torn between keeping the car original 905 red or going for a grey not metallic  (very popular at the moment)????

Plan to move on to  repairing floor pans (Keep as much original material as possible)

I wish I had a factory 905 red Z myself.

Been a long time but have been chipping away

Repaired dash just need to texture

Tidied steering wheel

Body work all done managed to get 5mm gap all round

In the process of sorting out the rear hatch venting system I need to source some barrel clips (same as the ones that hold on the emblems?)

and some speed washers, Nissan have discontinued, so will have to find some generic ones.

Need so many small bits and pieces that are not available in Australia and the postages costs from Europe and the States are

so expensive.

Lucky the only panels  I've  had to replace are  the bonnet and rear valance

Hoping for paint by end Jan.

You should have the hatch vent P clips in your possession by now.
The barrel clips can be bought from Nissan (last time I checked).

A small achievement cleaned and rebuilt a hatch vent.

The plastic/rubber components where all good but painted and dirty, they cleaned up ok

I got some generic speed nuts that fitted

Used some 8mm open cell foam and cut it to size and stuck down with double sided tape.

I will have to repeat this step as the tape stuck the speed nut so it was hard to jiggle into position for fitting the vent.

Satisfying couple of hours

Its easy to see how the cost of restoration builds up.

4 clips to hold components to hatch  $110

Speed nuts $18 2 packets

Barrel clips 4 $16

Vents $150

Had the foam and tape

More disappointment.

Remover engine and gearbox the super cheap autos engine leveller jammed solid with gearbox too low to clear front crossmember!

Very hard to lift box and move hoist.

All worked out ok and returned leveller. Replaced rather than refund most probably not a good idea.

Noticed that the universal joint was welded onto yoke.

Is this salvageable?

Thanks

Yoke is possibly worn, hence the tack welds. Or they used the wrong UJ cup.
IMHO fit a new UJ and see if the cup moves. If it does, acquire a replacement half shaft.
