Don't know if this has been posted already, but it's only a 280ZX, so there's a good chance it hasn't!! :P

280ZX

44,350kms

$28,500

For that price you would have thought some more detailed pictures might have helped the sale.

Only two pics and the second one is very shitty!

The add is a little contradictory in saying the car is unrestored............as the pics show it has been.........but the seller goes on to mention the resto anyway!

Those links are from previous owners, the car was "unrestored" until it went to the UK with the new owner who did a bare metal paint job on it.

Yes it's a 260z front guard, you can tell because no AU delivered 240z's had the indicator in the guard. That only came with 74+ models and the 260z.

Getting that alignment spot on is a PITA..

Gav, I have HS30-100052 and that has an Australian compliance date of 10/1973 and my car does not have the indicators or the different sub-wiring loom to the indicators on the front bumper bar.

Also the overriders on the car advertised for sale are upside down and on the wrong sides.

Yeah lol, the rear overriders are on the front bumper and the front ones are on the rear (but upside down)...

It does look a bit odd that way.

Hi Chassis254.

Are you sure that your car is HS30-100052 and/or that the compliance plate is dated 10/73 - and not 01/73?

The only HS30-100xxx series cars on the Datsun Register-WA list (http://wazregister.c..._Cars&year=1973) are;

HS30-100414    240Z    3/1973 - Engine # L24-125945 and

HS30-100983    240Z    1/1973 - Engine # L24-151379

My car is;

HS30-103724    240Z    9/1973 - Engine # L24-189707

What is/was the original engine number for your car?

Late Australian 240Z's and some 260Z's (especially UK and European delivered cars) that had the separate front indicators, had them mounted on top of the bumper, and did not have front bumper over riders (presumably so they wouldn't block the indicators). Many owners, however, have relocated the indicators to below the bumper, as does this car (i.e. HS30 100053).

The photo below (which was posted in this topic - http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/13953-whats-the-blinking-story/) shows the holes in the bottom section of the bumper that made it easy to move the lights. The holes were probably originally provided for the addition of the fog lights which were an option for Japanese domestic market cars.

...A very late (sold 12/10/1973) and totally original 240Z (HS30-103744) was recently sold by the Z Car Shop in Melbourne.

This picture of the car shows both the original location of the front blinker, and one of the holes under the bumper, conveniently provided by the factory, that was used by many to relocate the blinkers.

It sounds like an early 1973 model car to me also. Compliance plates from my observation have usually been fitted 2-3 months after build date (closer to 2). For example HS30 00150 compliance plate states 11/70 but build date is close to September 1970 as far as I can tell.

I would guess your car would be very late 72 (which might explain lack of later indicators fitted) or very early 73. Does the compliance plate have the same chassis no. on it?*

*Could it be from another car?

Makes a lot more sense, as I mentioned in the other thread the chassis numbers are really just an indicator of year, but not a hard and fast rule.

Z car on Sunny Coast gone already, early number z cars are not sticking around at all

Well.. assume we got about 350 (HS30's) in late 1970. Now assume a 20% survivor rate.. leaves about 70 cars today. I'm not surprised.

Hope owner is on here and shares some photos! I haven't seen this car yet...

260z 2 seater in NZ for $10k buy it now.

http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=1222493866

539714971.jpg

Car is rolling with original running gear in it.

Have all paperwork required to get it on the road in New Zealand. Was imported from the U.S.

Very hard decision but it has to be done, one of the toys has to go due to circumstances

LHD, have a RHD dash for it.

STILL REQUIRES ALOT OF WORK, it is a project. Good basis to start with, most of the rust/poor repairs has been removed.

Rear rails will be done and rear valance completed before it goes to the new owner.

Still have the original running gear sitting here with matching numbers. Engine/body has done 61 thousand miles .

Have all required paperwork to get it legal in New Zealand.

Wheels pictured don't come with it, has 3 piece 15x6.5 Impul R701s with new centercaps.

Converted to disc brake in the rear.

Brand new badges on the boot and front guards. All bolt on panels are in excellent condition, no rust and no signs of repairs. Pretty much from the floor pans forward its good, the rear was very rusted but have cut it all out and started replacing it.

All chrome and windows are in excellent condition, bumpers are straight/rust free and included in the auction.

Very hard to get now, low price as it has to go. Instead of settling for a 2+2 which have shot up in value, get this cheap 2 seater, spend a few grand and you will have yourself a awesome 2 seater at a fraction of the price of what they sell for and you will have the satisfaction of knowing it has been done properly, alot of these cars get very dodgy repairs and you won't know until its too late. The miracles of filler.

As said, this is a project.
