What did you bid up to? Did you bid at all? Honestly when I saw it I knew it couldn't go cheap, I think the fact it was so hard to find would have worked in your favour and limited competition. I guess not. But alas there will be another...there always is.. Christmas is a good time of year to find an S30Z, seems people offload projects around that time. Year after year. In some ways it was still a bargain compared with this car.. http://japanesenostalgiccar.com/datsun-280z-2-plus-2-sold-for-45000-at-auction/ Next time if you want an estimate of value send me a PM and I'll be happy to try and help based on my knowledge. But even I was a bit off. Always hard to pin a value based on photos. When you see something in person you can get a much better sense of it's value. It was a fantastic 2+2, great colour. Sorry I know it doesn't help lol.. I can't recall when I last saw a 2+2 in this country with the original wheels and hubcaps though! NGDCTeam 1 Quote

I honestly don't think $18k goes as far most might think it does when restoring a car like this. Also the old saying is, it's only original once. To a serious collector these things matter. Quote

Agreed, however I do not think most here on this forum are serious collectors. The majority here want an "honest" Zed at a low price that hopefully will not deplete their savings before they get it restored to a level that they can use and admire it. Quote

All good I bid to 21000 haha and the misses was egging me on to go more but the competition were very keen and I think I was about to have a coronary!!! In the end I really didn't want to go higher than 18 but shit got hectic very quickly Went from 10 back to 5 back to 10 then to 15 all in the space of under 60 seconds!!! Wasn't meant to be the other couple just wanted it more Thanks to all here for the advice though it's been a great education gav240z 1 Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted December 3, 2016 Author Administrators Posted December 3, 2016 I tried to buy a warehouse in Melbourne recently, it was listed at $790k - $850k originally. I was prepared for 1.1M knowing the under-quoting going on in the industry... Anyway come day of the auction my mum was there in person to bid (as I'm in Sydney) and I'll never do a phone bid again - because there was so much I couldn't account for being over the phone. It started around 900k, shot up to 1.1M very quickly, then it was me and the other bidder. My original hard limit was 1.153M because you have to have a limit and I hate round numbers. We went all the way to 1.17M before I gave up, it sold at 1.175M. I'm still annoyed but it wasn't to be. locklock and Macdat 2 Quote

Dionysus Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 I tend to think cars put to auction on eBay tend to go for a slightly lower price..In saying that we don't often see the final sale price of cars sold else where. cracker 1 Quote
