Ads do seem to be on the up. People like me looking for Christmas presents for themselves.

Does anyone know this car?

Nope but if someone can go view it I'd be interested in buying it.

Note to self,

After buying a Zed , STOP LOOKING!!

10 years later I'm still looking, there is no help I'm afraid.

Maybe all the Auszcar members need to form a company with the sole purpose of buying every zed that comes on the market and we park them in a big warehouse and members can just pick and choose which car they like to drive.

We would need to employ security, mechanics and panelbeaters.

Yep I'm tired  :-\

To you?

New car for the Garage San Maru empire.

Pick it up Thursday night .

You will not believe how good the body is on this car ... I did not even try and negotiate with him , pretty much stood there and yelled "shut up and take my money"

Any thoughts on this car guys?

Front indicators look to have been relocated?  Any issues you can see with removing the gas setup and running as a daily?

Also see it here on Carsales:

I saw this too. It looks clean enough, but the LPG setup put me off.    Not sure how easy/hard it is to revert back to stock.

But if it weren't for the LPG, this looks like a clean car, particular in the interior.  And it has A/C.  Great if it still works.

^^ Agreed, I would buy it if I was in the market for a car that didn't need much work.

Note: Centre console is cracked around choke lever (not surprised). *edit mentions this in ad*.

Also the vintage air con system, not my bag but period correct.

Missing original badges - which I personally like. So definitely not original paint.

If the body is rust free it's a good price.

LPG won't save you much money so worth ripping it out. Don't think it should be too hard, might need to tune to suit regular fuel again?

Depends on what you're after from a 240z, but I think it's well priced and fair given it's condition (at least from photos) and doesn't look to have been messed with.

Of course if you can get it cheaper then you'll have spare change to fix a few things etc..

I'm obviously missing something, but looking in the engine bay photo, I can't possibly see how the LPG system is connected up...?

Thanks for the heads up guys, very helpful :)

I will ask re paint, hadn't spotted that.

re the Gas, is it the black lines and black box indicated below?

Nope those are the choke cables for the SU's.

The black box looks like an aftermarket alarm siren.

It would be pretty rare for a car of this age not to have had a repaint, but the missing badges would say to me that they were either removed - because it was cool to do, or because it was repainted and never put back on.

Rear tail light garnish is also black instead of OEM grey.

Looks like it has electronic ignition also.

Good luck if you decide to look at it.

#86 re-listed for $9k

I was interested the first time he listed it but passed as it was beyond my restoration ability.

I will be in Melbourne next weekend, willing to take a look if you're still thinking about it?

I was thinking of taking a look anyway. On the surface it seems like a good car, but never know till you've seen in person.

I had a few days off a couple of weeks ago and had the opportunity to fly down. However, based on the photos he sent me and the description I had to decline making an offer. I know he was pretty firm on the price but if he's flexible I would consider it.

Gav, if you're keen to check it out go ahead but don't plan on it for my sake. I'll be in touch if I change my mind.

Hey bro,

Looking at buying my first z, I've done heaps of reading, but don't know the quirks to look for.

If you are going for a look I'd love to come along and get some advice on whether or not it's worth the cash.

Hi mate,

I don't recommend this as a first Z, after reading about the work it requires - thanks to information forwarded to me I don't think it's worth anywhere near the asking price. This car needs a lot of work to make right.

If you look at the front bonnet you'll see it has a 'bow' in it, indicating a front end smash at some point. I'm told the front rails are not true and when you consider the quality of the paint work I would not be surprised to find lots of bog hiding under it. It has rust in every panel and that's the visible stuff. I'm sure there is more to be found. Looks like it might have originally been blue.

This model is not meant to have storage bins behind the rear seats. So either it's been cut n' shut with another shell or someone has cut their own storage bin holes. (I suspect the latter)

If you still want to take a look I might have time to go with you, but unless you have very deep pockets, a desire to own 1 of the earliest cars and a lot of time and expertise I don't recommend this Z. If you've been restoring cars for some time or have the means to learn and do most of the body work yourself then I'd offer him at most half of what he's asking.

I'll be in Melbourne this weekend for the Christmas BBQ you can call me on 0434 520 498 if you want to chat about it? Or come down to the BBQ and meet the group. You might even find a Z or 2 for sale?
