Are you trying to attach to a forum thread or upload to the gallery?

Just had IPS help with an issue that I noticed after upgrade.

1. This image gallery and some of my own photos were throwing errors previously. Seems to be fixed now.

The IPS forum software folks likely logged into my site to fix a few issues and may have prevented certain tables being written to temporarily. @JDM-TOY - so this might explain your issue?

2. The new software should allow you to sign in with either username OR email address. It was previously only working with username. I'm just about to test my own account. This was the reason I kept Display Names with the upgrade because if you're able to sign in with email it shouldn't matter what your username is.

I plan to also enable folks to sign in with Google Accounts, not just Facebook accounts.

Don't like the new Posts section, if one topic is popular it will block out all others there. It's a bit facebookish, cheers for the previous Posts section.

Well im a little disappointed at Z Car Depot sent me the wrong emblem for my Z. Broken pins and a shitty sticker to apply. Pictures  are just for testing.

There is a lot of flexibility in the Activity section, a lot of which I still have to explore myself.

If you have a specific view of new topics you want to see let me know and I can try and configure something to suit (if the software allows it) of if it's a popular request for other communities run on the same software there might be a plugin to address it.

Unread topics setup

This is for anyone like myself who is looking to have the unread section operate as it use to. You need to create a custom activity stream. 

This approach will take you to the first unread reply. Not the last or the beginning of the topic. 

Hope someone finds this useful.

Sadly the advertising banners are back....

However if you have sent a donation via PayPal in most cases I've managed to put you into the Donating members group. The donating members group is excluded from seeing advertising. So just another reason to chip in a few dollars.

At some point I may trial showing ads to guests only. To see if just having guests see them is enough to generate revenue.

*Edit just to add 1 more thing, I believe the software may provide an option so that PayPal donations automatically place members into donating members group. (right now I do this manually), I'll have to set this up at some point to make life easier.

At the moment once you make a donation you are a donating member indefinitely (since I'm too lazy to remove folks manually after a certain time period - too much admin for 1 person). However the software may provide an auto expire so a donation gives you say 12 months without advertising, but after that period you'll need to give a top up to stay in the group.

I really appreciate the donations and find it very flattering that folks get that much use out of the site, enough to justify sending money towards the cause. So giving you an advertising free experience is 1 way to give something back.

No trouble. I spent a bit of time playing around with the activity stream, after you mentioned it earlier. A rather powerful feature. 

I've got an Huawei phone, so the screen recorder is part of its OS. Never used any others to be honest.

Have to say I'm super impressed with how easily the new interface handles attachments. Gifs and videos are painless.

Yes I manage the hosting, the company provides a pretty good set up on the plan we have. I haven't moved across to cloud yet. Costs are relatively high, but the way I see it I'm competing with Facebook these days. Lots of other forums have died because of Facebook. So the user experience here has to be good and part of that is making it easy to upload photos.

Drifting off topic but... 

I find it disappointing/confusing that the likes of Facebook are usurping traditional forums. Maybe I'm just showing my age, lol. But most modern social media platforms are just simply collective noise.

I believe ( hope) there will always be a medium for enthusiasts who are looking for actual information or advice. Especially when it's organised categorically.

Agree, I find Facebook very superfluous and ephemeral. Hence why I'm committed to being invested in the traditional forum. After all who wants to answer the same question 100x? Or see another valve cover discussion!

any idea why these posts do not get recognised as being read? Do others have the same issue?

also, the keyboard does not automatically set capitals when starting a new line. Is this something with my phone or are others seeing the same?

Mmmmm, interesting that those two aren't being registered as read. Is it still doing this today? 

I'm waiting on more unread content to fully explore this, but I have noticed one interesting quirk. 

When someone posts a new reply, it will often show a notification for the previous reply as well ( which has been read). But clicking on either of them will take me to the unread reply. Will explore this further. 

Also, I suspect the capital issue is related to an autofill/keyboard setting on your phone.

Jason try the custom activity stream option. 

Got to Activity Menu -> My Activity Streams -> Create new stream.

You'll see options such as these.

Good point, in fact I plan to move the whole site to a new domain soon also. But part of getting there was migrating away from the other software. Just to make life simpler. My only concern is managing redirects from old URLs to the new ones properly. Nothing worse than trying to follow broken links.

Ah I see you don't want to see unread posts that pre-date your last visit.  You can mark the whole site read so that old threads with no new content don't show as unread
