260DET Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 Here, scroll down to the second group http://www2.endurorally.com/pp2016/results.php Dave gainer is doing well and look at that Pickering bloke, #1. Apparently he has a lot of dirt rally and endurance experience so obviously in with a chance. Quote
CBR Jeff Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 Yes Mark Pickering has a fair bit of stage rally experience as does his navigator Dave Boddy. Dave has been around a long time, he navigated for Wayne Bell for many years and has competed in events like the Southern Cross, Repco Reliability Trials, Australian and state championships and some World rally events. It's a very experienced pairing. gav240z 1 Quote

ZED660 Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 A great adventure with quite a diverse range of cars. The daily reports make for good reading! http://www.endurorally.com/pages/the-peking-to-paris-motor-challenge-2016 Quote
1600dave Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 (edited) One of my favourite tales from prior events - prior winner (Gerry Crown in a P76) had to get his navigator to drive the China sections a few years back as he was deemed too old to be issued a licence to drive there. Hope I'm still up to messing round with cars when I'm in my 80's. Also wish I had the money to do one of these events, not likely though Edited June 22, 2016 by 1600dave CBR Jeff and gav240z 2 Quote
ZED660 Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 Well Gerry Crown and Matt Bryson are in it again driving the P76 which they won in on the last P2P. At the start they had an oil pressure problem which was traced to a faulty PCV valve and they were down in 50 or so position. They have now rectified the problem and are charging up the field and now in 7th in class! Don't bet against them not winning again if they have some luck (although I would like to see the 240 win:)) CBR Jeff 1 Quote
zcar63 Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 Dave Boddy was Peter Brocks Navigator in the 1995 Round Australia Rally i think. Quote
PeterAllen Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 How is it run? Just fastest A to B? Stages each day? Regularity? Other? I couldn't see anything on the site. Thanks Quote

GK510 Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 Not quite halfway yet so still a lot of tough terrain to cover. Great to see 3 X 240Z's in the top 10 of their class. Particularly when 2 of them are crewed by Aussies. There's some great pics if you have time to browse through the official gallery. Administrators gav240z Posted June 25, 2016 Administrators Posted June 25, 2016 That P76 is a wildcard indeed. I was in Balmain the other night and saw a P76 and was telling an American chap who was over for work purposes that they were a real perplexing car when released. Perhaps unfairly bashed based on styling and other company problems. Yet look at it, seems to do well in the Rally environment. Really built for Australian conditions and to last it would appear! Moderators PB260Z Posted June 25, 2016 Moderators Posted June 25, 2016 (edited) The basic concept of the P76 was on the money, room for 5 adults, big boot, concealed wipers. It was let down by poor build quality, among a few other things. Any that are still around will have had their quality issues fixed and are no actually nice cars to drive. The 4.4L V8 was very advanced the time. Cheers PB Edited June 25, 2016 by PB260Z gav240z 1 Quote
260DET Posted June 26, 2016 Author Posted June 26, 2016 Yes, the V8 was an Australian redesigned Rover lump, very good engine for it's time. Quote

CBR Jeff Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 How is it run? Just fastest A to B? Stages each day? Regularity? Other? I couldn't see anything on the site. Thanks Peter. I had a good look over the results today and it appears the event is a mix of (probably) regularity for overall time for the day and A to B for the "time trial" sections. The total for the day is both added together. You can examin the detailed results here: http://www2.endurorally.com/pp2016/results.php Jeff Quote

CBR Jeff Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 The lead team is getting serious. Apparently the car builder is being flown in for a major service in an effort to ensure reliability. Quote
260DET Posted July 11, 2016 Author Posted July 11, 2016 In Hungary I think, Zeds are all at the end. US Z 33:00, Brit Z 42:20, Dave Gainer 42:30 and #1 43:15. Quote

260DET Posted July 16, 2016 Author Posted July 16, 2016 Yep, Pickering/Boddy are ~45 minutes ahead so barring accidents or terrorists they should hold first place. Looks like Dave Gainer will finish up 4th so, counting chickens, a great result for the Zeds. Quote
