Retro Z Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 Hi guys. Looking for a good insurance company to insure my zed. The car is to be insured in Victoria amd will be on club rego, prefer agreed value as it has had alot of work put into it. Ive come across Lumley, Nrma and shannons who do classic cars but want to hear of any good experiences or companies to avoid before i call them for quotes. Quote
Moderators PB260Z Posted June 18, 2016 Moderators Posted June 18, 2016 (edited) Hi, I have my cars with Shannons, good value and never had a problem. & Yes I have made a claim Edited June 18, 2016 by PB260Z Quote
ilbert Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 Same, Shannon's, free glass replacement (Used this for stone chip in windscreen no issue). Quote
Triptych Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 I will be chasing the same info shortly as well I hope but just to keep everything in the one location can you guys add what rego you use as well. I am thinking normal rego as club rego seems way to limited for my liking up here in QLD. Quote
Linton Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 yep shannon's and as mentioned they give you a free windscreen every year hint hint!! works well. Quote
lightmaster240z Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 I have mine with shannons as well as the father in law has ten cars with them and never have a problem with them Quote
Riceburner Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 Full reg, shannons for the time I've owned the car. One claim not at fault years ago and no issues. They're so easy to deal with. I've driven down a few times now to the moorabbin branch to increase the agreed value. A small inspection, a chat and on my way. They know the value of Z's and won't screw you around. If only all insurance companies were as good. Quote
Retro Z Posted June 18, 2016 Author Posted June 18, 2016 Shannons it is then. I will give them a call on monday. Thanks guys. Quote
adam Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 Racv veteran and vintage classic car insurance, not regular. Free roadside assist with the policy. Quote
Riceburner Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 I didn't know they did classic cars Adam. How have you found them? Quote
PeterAllen Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 (edited) I've had Shannons 'laid-up' insurance for years... unfortunately! I raised the value from $17k to $35k last year and the policy was around $400. I came across something on the Cobra site where they had insured a full road registered Cobra replica for <$400. I'm sure the value of that particular car was well over $35k. Struck me a bit inconsistent. I wouldn't just go straight to one insurer, I think it best to get a range of quotes. dat240z Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 A range of quotes is always a good idea, however the only company that came close to Shannons was NRMA Vintage Insurance. My 240z costs me $570 per year (no driving limitations, however it is only driven a few times a month) at an agreed value of $55k. Quote
Moderators PB260Z Posted June 19, 2016 Moderators Posted June 19, 2016 Hi Yes get quotes, but cheapest is not always the best. I had major dramas with another "Cheaper" company when it came to a claim. In my view, insurance is only as good as the company's willingness to pay a claim. Cheers PB Quote
PZG302 Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 And your premiums will vary based on a lot of factors, so saying that a Zed and Cobra don't compare in premiums is a bit unfair as you don't know the risk factors like driver age, sex, history with claims and driving record, where its stored, what limits on use, garaging suburb, other cars insured and so on. When I moved literally 100 metres in the same suburb, my insurances dropped by a few hundred dollars for the cars and home/contents, all Shannons, based on the new address and the risk profile for that address compared to the old address, and also the fact I went from being a renter to an owner and so on. My S14 race car is about $200 a year on laid up cover, my old MX5 was about $250 a year for limited use, weekender, and my Charger is $70 a year laid up cover because it is in a workshop. The latest toy, a '79 280SE merc, I expect to be around $350 based on a Suncorp quote, AAMI, same group won't insure it due to age. Also my work ute, prices range from $850 to $1300 for full comp. and agreed value of $35k based on company. i will be going with the cheapest quote for that, but only based on reading the PDS to make sure what I get is what I require in cover Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted June 19, 2016 Administrators Posted June 19, 2016 I would opt for Shannon's as my first choice, however since I have multiple cars on the policy the FD RX-7 tips the scales at $2,000 + per year which is crazy! So I found another company called Enthusiast http://enthusiast.com.au/ I believe the company was started by a friend of the fella who started Shannon's (they were school friends I think?). I have found them good to deal with so far, HOWEVER I've never made any claims. I hope I never have to. Quote
adam Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 I didn't know they did classic cars Adam. How have you found them? Fortunately, I haven't had the need to make any claims and can't comment on that part. But so far, so good in terms of agreed values. They've been happy to so far agree on $30k without questions asked for a premium of $200 a year. No claim history, garaged every night, etc. Would be interesting to hear what others have had their zeds insured for though. I plucked that number from thin air and they've agreed without issues. 260DET Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 I was with Lumleys for a few years but they kept putting their premiums up even though the only claim was one windscreen. Changed to Shannons. Quote
Retro Z Posted June 19, 2016 Author Posted June 19, 2016 (edited) Ok. Just got off the phone with Shannons. I had to email them a few pictures of the car and scans of a bunch of reciepts for parts in real-time while on the phone. The consultant seemed nice. Over the phone they quoted me $550 for agreed value of $43k. Im 29yrs old in western suburbs (high crime). They said they will bump up the agreed value if i bring it in for inspection. They will also apply a 5% increase to the cars value every year but my premiums will also increase 5% aswell. Will try NRMA tonight for a quote. Edited June 19, 2016 by Retro Z shaun240 1 Quote

zedls1 Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 Hi Retro Z, I'll chime in with my 2c worth. Mines with Shannon's also, no problem's, easy to deal with, try asking them if premium will be less if limited use(you may have already told them this). Not sure if you or anyone else has heard of Famous insurance, traditionally a bike insurer, I got an email from CAMS advertising them so I called them and found they were half the premium of Shannon's with pretty much same coverage, I'll be swapping shortly as I have my Passat R36 with Famous, you may want to check them out. For those who track their Z they offer track cover, separate policy but well worth it if you track the Z and want some peace of mind. John Quote
