gilltech Posted August 13, 2018 Posted August 13, 2018 That rusty Fairlady Z-S looks to have the same chromed guard mirrors that our early NZ-new 260Zs got (like most they were long gone when I bought my car). Similar to those on other Jap-built Datsuns we got like the 160J SSS's and 180B SSS's etc but chrome rather than grey plastic. Quote

They are not the mirrors it left the factory with. They are certainly a later retro-fit, and they may well indeed be the S31 type - the flashiest version of which had electric remote adjusters: gav240z and GongZ 2 Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted August 13, 2018 Author Administrators Posted August 13, 2018 Alan is that a roof mounted directional lamp? Near the rear view mirror? Never seen that before! Also is that show defrost glass on the side door glass? I'm guessing Z-T grade was introduced with the S31? Those alloys were fitted standard on AU market 260z's or at least we're often fitted. Steel wheels and caps were probably something you had to opt for to keep costs down here. Quote

Also is that show defrost glass on the side door glass? Yes, the 'eyeball' lamp. You could point it to where the action was... Door glass defrost would be cool (hot...) but the catalogue illustration is just showing electric window-winding function on the Z-Posh. Bit of a challenge to show it in action, I guess. gav240z 1 Quote

Wheels are too big and the exhaust tips don't suit at a perfectly horizontal angle. Otherwise very nice lol. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted August 18, 2018 Author Administrators Posted August 18, 2018 1 family owned, California Datsun 240z. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1972-datsun-240z-60/ @my_mad_z same colour combo as my 73 240z. :D, 110 red with white interior. Quote This 1972 Datsun 240Z has reportedly spent its entire life in California and Oregon with the same family. It was first purchased by an IBM engineer, who used it as a daily driver for several years. He sold the car to his nephew in the mid-1990s and purchased it back from him in 2008. The nephew recently bought the car back from his uncle for a second time, and it now has 147,847 miles. Nice drive in San Francisco (just see the Bay Bridge at the start). my_mad_z and JDM-TOY 2 Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted August 23, 2018 Author Administrators Posted August 23, 2018 At first glance this 1 looks nice, but I'd personally avoid it.. details to come. CURRENT BID: $17,500 ENDS IN: 4 days. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1970-datsun-240z-26/ Not a huge fan of the rear valance section repair.. The original piece was quite rusty on the sides. But the profile of the replacement piece (sourced via the same place I got mine in Canada) is definitely the wrong profile to begin with and needs reworking to curve correctly. The only reason I noticed is that I've been paying attention to that area on my own car, but I guess some will mind more than others. However the rest of the car has rust coming through in some critical areas like the lower strut towers in the engine bay, floor etc.. I think the 73 that just sold was a far better deal. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1973-datsun-240z-67/ Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted August 26, 2018 Author Administrators Posted August 26, 2018 I don't get the BMW Alpina Roadsters and their values. $360K USD + commission for a car that barely made any waves upon release. Quote

PeterAllen Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 (edited) It seems they sell at auction for 50-60% of the alleged private sale prices. I suspect those private sales are falsely quoted at high prices so the cars can be used as fraudulently valued collateral for raising funds for business ventures. On a more optimistic note I observed that Jaguar E-type #10 sold for over $600k, whereas regular production E-types were selling around $200k, That must be encouraging for George.
