Did you know that it has a 280Z lower front valance on it?

Whats the best way to drop, and can I keep the standard shocks?

Just get lowered springs. King springs do a low in progressive rate and linear here in Aus.

It is a UK spec 73 240z, the lower valance is correct.

I was chatting to the owner of the panelshop in South Africa earlier this evening, and he had a funny story to tell.  He had loaded the 240Z onto a trailer and was about ready to pull of on the way to the exhaust shop, when a guy pulled up next to him in a Ferrari Californa.  Jaco was eyeing out the Ferrari (uncommon in our part of the world), when the diver got out of the Ferrari, pulled out his phone and started taking pictures of the Z!  Never thought I would see the day... lol

When I bought a second hand engine stand off a guy on Gumtree here in Sydney, he was going about about rebuilding a chevy motor and it never got done etc.. He asked what I was building I told him an early Datsun 240z. You could tell he was thinking hard for a second as his memory tried to recall what car that was, as I explained "kind of like an E-type with sugar scoop headlights etc.." He suddenly spouts out "Oh, a Japanese Ferrari!" and I said yeah I guess so. Then he went on to tell me - "Yeah you could put a V8 in those" and then I quietly thought to myself.. Yeah you could but I like the original engine.

The UK 240Z valance and the 280Z valance are quite different.

In fact, that's not an OEM three piece valance & corners set and urethane front spoiler. It's a one piece fibreglass 'replica' with a subtly different shape, and the 'spoiler' part is just painted black.

The front indicators are under the bumper (mounted in the factory fog lamp holes) when they should be on top of it, and the front indicator repeater lenses are mounted upside down. Nice car (it's the Nissan UK press car, which - ironically - was sourced from Australia) but it's not necessarily a good example of OEM UK market specs.

You caught me with my blinkers down Alan!  :-[

I started the "What's the blinking story?" topic, so I know you are right about the front indicators. In fact - I added a new post to that topic earlier today, with a photo of the hole under the bumper that was used to relocate the indicators -

http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/13953-whats-the-blinking-story/page-2 - post #24

I now remember you pointing out that AWU91K had a 'replica' front valance in that topic as well. I would have used a different example, but I did several Google Image searches for 'UK 240Z', '240Z England' etc and I didn't find any suitable photos.

Notwithstanding my injudicious choice of photograph, the 280Z does have a very different front valance and grille to suit.

*Edit - this is the best I can find;

Well, D-Day has arrived.  The Z is 99.9% finished, and these photos were taken on the last shakedown drive yesterday (RSA is 9 hours behind us).  Final polish and fit the badges, and tomorrow at midday, she will be loaded into the container for her trip down under.  I hope to be able to post some final photos of her going into the container tomorrow, and then the long wait until early Feb until she is unloaded in Sydney.

I will definitely be dropping her an inch when she gets here, and will be changing the wing mirrors to a better set.  Otherwise I'm extremely happy with the outcome so far.

Watch this space, there may be another build coming up soon.  I can't divulge too much, but working on another two options.......

Nice result.

I am looking forward to see it live!! Photos are good but never accurately reflect the project.

I have a feeling this will be better in the flesh than it is in the photos.

The difference is that it was a professional build done by a shop.  If I had done this myself, it would have taken a lot longer guys, cut yourself some slack....  ::)

Ok, so the first spanner has been thrown in the works.

The cars were delivered to the container depot for loading and customs have refused to clear the Datsun for export to Australia, saying it must go back to Zimbabwe!!  Apparently the clearing agents didn't clear with the right code when the car came into South Africa.  So, now both cars are going to miss this ship while we sort out the paperwork mess..........

Looks like the cars will only ship in January sometime now. Uuuuughhhh!!!!

How safe is it sending a fully restored car back to Zimbabwe, knowing the corruption in the country.

Hope it all work for you in the end.

When it lands in Australia you will truly be the Tong Master 8)

I'm not sending the car back to Zim if I can help it!  Trying to get the paperwork sorted out his time of the year is a nightmare.

Surely there is a way you can grease the wheels of bureaucracy and achieve the desired result without having to send the car all the way back.
