luvemfast Posted October 31, 2013 Author Posted October 31, 2013 EOI cancelled No longer looking to sell. Just out of curiosity, what is the amount people thought they would have been let go for? (not less than the ITB set-up, thats for sure!) Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted October 31, 2013 Administrators Posted October 31, 2013 2K minimum. I paid $1200 for a set of second hand ones a few years ago. I rarely see 44s up for sale. What are the books you have mate? I'd be interested in buying them for my own sake. Are they still being sold on Amazon? Quote
G Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 I landed my new 45 OER's on the manifold, ready to bolt on (but without the airbox and fuel pump) for just over $2k. Quote
NZeder Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 I know of a few people that got Mikuni 44 for around $500-700 NZD aka funny money but that was a few years back now - usually without manifold, requiring work/clean/jetting. Quote
dat2kman Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Few years back, had to replace 1x Mikuni 50 mm, with longish trumpets, cost was just over $2000 for the one item. Also have a pair of 55 mm DCOE Webers, have nfi on cost, do know they are made of Unobtanium. gav240z 1 Quote
Agno Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 There is a set of 58 DCO Webers for sale at Weberperformance for $18k but they are also made of sand cast unobtainium plus hopes and dreams. I would consider a price of about $2.5k reasonable, but I also know how much you paid for your two sets so I guess that influences my opinion of what they are worth Quote
d3c0y Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 I got $2700 for my 44 mikuni S5s on a genuine mikuni manifold with linkages that were restored to as good as new condition by Lou Mondello. They were water jet blasted and had all the original stickers on them. gav240z 1 Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted October 31, 2013 Administrators Posted October 31, 2013 That's just showing off ^^ where can I get me some stickers like that? They look 'Totes Amazeballs'. Quote
NZeder Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 OK slight hijack but since we are talking about mikuni's My s5 have the cooling bodies on the bottom. These are designed to have the returning fuel (non dead head setup ie a full return setup) pass through the carbs and provide cooling. So Pete and others should I run a return and use this on the track car? Quote
luvemfast Posted October 31, 2013 Author Posted October 31, 2013 It's been interesting to see people's thoughts and opinions. I would consider a price of about $2.5k reasonable, but I also know how much you paid for your two sets so I guess that influences my opinion of what they are worth 2 sets that needed work to finish off, with custom machining on expensive engineering equipment. Soooo, using your logic Alex. 240Z's could be bought new for what, $3,500? Does that mean they are worth that now? No! Jakes example is the closest I guess. Because you need to add all the rest of the gear and labour. How many people have bought "rebuilt" carbs from places like Wolf Creek Racing, only to get them and find they need a REAL rebuild? At a price of $1,000+ Anywho. I'm keeping them anyway. I dooooo love them! If you can get them for $2k. Grab them! Quote
zedevan Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Is the general thought OER's don't really compete with the quality and performance of mikuni's, or is it more a historical thing? Quote

Worst part is i didnt even get to see them in person! Lou Mondello in VIC - PMC know how to contact him. Is the general thought OER's don't really compete with the quality and performance of mikuni's, or is it more a historical thing? I haven't heard anything bad about OERs, in fact i thought they took the best bits of a Weber and a Solex and put them in one carb. Quote

At a price of $1,000+ Anywho. I'm keeping them anyway. I dooooo love them! If you can get them for $2k. Grab them! Firstly: Secondly, you bought those 44 Mikunis 2 years ago and since then the market for them has not changed in price. A 1970 240Z however has a good 43 years worth of inflation and other market forces behind it so no, a 240Z is not worth $3.5k. I know how much you paid for 2 sets and also how much Jake's went for as I was supposed to buy them. Unfortunately for me I lost patience after waiting 9 months for them to be rebuilt and I went and did something else. Since then I have sunk well over your Mikunis $3.5k asking price into my Dellortos in parts and labour (including custom work) and when I put them up for sale am I going to ask that sort of coin? Hell no! I will be lucky to see $1500 even though they are Les Collins/PMC prepped, tuned and a 100% bolt on kit! I'm sorry if my "logic" obviously hurt your feelings but at the end of the day they are worth what people are willing to buy them for and my price is obviously well in the ballpark of what other members think they are worth. I haven't heard anything bad about OERs, in fact i thought they took the best bits of a Weber and a Solex and put them in one carb. OER are different to Solex/Mikuni/Dellorto/Weber as they are a relatively modern performance side-draught carb (read: mid 80s design). Whether they are better than anything else... dunno. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted October 31, 2013 Moderators Posted October 31, 2013 You know Simon, you never get back labour/other costs when you sell anything... if that was the case, zeds will be selling from $50K+ after everyone tries to get back what they spent that's invisible. Quote

As I originally said Thinking about a new direction, only if the stars align. Which means, only for sale under my terms. lol Did I really want to get rid of them? no..... More than happy to keep them forever! And apparently Alex took offence to my reply. That was not my intention, I've messaged him to clarify. Quote

Aha, the wise words of wisdom! My race car, to start from scatch, and do it all again, $70,000 A well known workshop in NSW, $120,000 Built to a specific race class/category, and able to be road registered. Sell/ask price $45,000 for mine. Another well known, in this field, 260Z, would sell at $65,000. Cost to build/develop-$90,000 If, and it's a big IF, we all kept every reciept, item cost, labour charge, etc on thourough rebuilds or developments, you would all crap yourselves at the real cost. Look at the finished in your car running cost, for a gun engine, say, from Les Collins Racing! Yet people expect the cars to be sold for chicken feed! Thank goodness we are playing with Datsuns, and not italian exotica ! WA240Z 1 Quote
