And that's my daily driver, so angry as when i bought it, the car was immaculate, not a single scratch, original example, sure its been fixed properly all 5 times, but just doesn't feel the same. To top it all off the S13 Silvia i had before my S15, it got written off by a pensioner who fell asleep at the wheel and had a head on crash with me. Really paranoid about driving the 260z, even though its a weekend car, i have the worst luck, and the Dato is a lot harder to replace! Hopefully she can be fixed, its a shame with cars like this, if its the worst case scenario and you get paid out, no money can replace the blood, sweat, tears and late nights put into these cars. Get a journal and start recording everything related to the accident, every time you have a sore back, cant sleep, time off work, meds you have to take and when, literally EVERY detail should go in this. Obviously keep any receipts for medication, doctors visits, expenses related ect ect. When you go for compensation (not if, but when) they will try to stiff you and make it out like its your fault anyway, and trust me, when you are allready down its a kick in the guts you dont need. your solicitor will love you for keeping all that extra info. The reality is that you will get stiffed in insurance for the car, its the nature of the beast, it'll cost more than you get to fix it. Medical compensation could easily make up for that shortfall as well as ensuring you are back and fit ready for work asap. Back injuries can hurt for a loooooong time, been there, done that. they can come back over and over. I had a reasonable rear ender on the road and i still feel it over 10 years later. Look after yourself. Cars can be replaced, people cant. Quote

How many months was it safe in my garage, then first drive out with the car? Bang! Looks like your bumper spread the load across the rear. Main thing is your well(ish). Well I know from my experience they hire an intermediate 3rd party to true and put a value on the car. They will come to you with a low offer, that is if the vehicle is deemed a write off, which it shouldn't be, but given the age of the car and the damage and how much it might cost to get it fixed by a pro bodyshop it could go down that road. It certainly looks like the kind of damage that is superficial at first, but as you dig it's actually worse than you first think. Anyway they will try and low ball you, you will need to do research on comparative cars and their value to show your cars 'true' worth. From then on it's a debate really as to the value of the car and how much you will be paid. That's IF the car is a write off. Otherwise you should be able to choose who does the repair and they should send an assessor to see how much damage is done to the car. It might help to have your own assessor (from your insurance company or a club spokesperson or similar?) also inspect the car (since this is a specialist car) most people won't know the value of parts for this car. You can't walk into Nissan and ask for a new 1/4 panel to suit an S30Z (or can you?). Quote

Rudolf. Mate I can relate to how you feel, my FD RX-7 was perfect till some pricks decided to steal it and vandalise / crash it into something. It was perfect accident free etc.. but to be honest with you I've also come to realise nothing is perfect.... my Z has had a minor front end incident at some point in it's life, like most Z's probably have also. If you want to keep a car perfect you need to lock it in a garage for 30+ years as a time capsule and never drive it. So long as the repair is done correctly it's fine. It's all in your head. Metal bends, it's bent into shape to make the car in the first place. So don't worry about it too much is what I'm saying. Quote

It's gutting I know, however on the positive side (if there is 1) I'm sure you'll do an awesome job fixing it with your skill set. Get well mate, and take it easy. As mentioned keep a journal, a video journal might be even better! Try to get all the incidents down now, while they are fresh in your mind (regarding the accident), all the little details. If you wait a while you'll forget lots of details. Hopefully you won't have too much grief from insurance and you can get your car back on the road soon. In the interim you have the 2+2. A letter came today from the ladies insurance company confirming the accident and asking me to contact them for quotation and assessment of my Zed. I took Oscar to a local panel shop (one of the largest in Ballarat) and was given a flat no, they will not quote or repair a vehicle of my type. It was suggested i take it to a restoration specialist. Keeping a diary since the accident, i'm not in too much pain as long as i keep moving but i wake between 2 and 3 am with back pain every morning. Quote
