Scoota G Posted March 20, 2013 Author Posted March 20, 2013 Please tell me you're with Shannons? I'll fill you guys in on specific details after i'm through this process. Quote
PZG302 Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Scoota, tell her insurance company to piss off, you want it repaired. Get your quotes and then send her a letter of demand to fix, which she can then pass onto her insurance. If you are with a decent specialist insurer go through them, if you had no cover, then be prepared to fight. Mainstream companies will do the cheapest possible thing to get out of paying, ie write the car off. If you can only get a pay out then make sure you retain the wreck. Most insurance companies will pay you and then take the car as it is deemed that they own it and then they auction it off to recover some costs. I do really hope you are insured with a good company, even if its for 3rd party fire and theft, they might fight the good fight for you. Good luck with it all. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted March 21, 2013 Administrators Posted March 21, 2013 What the man above me said ^^. I know this process sucks mate, to be honest for me it's less the damage to my car, more the cost of my time dealing with all the bull that comes with it. I'm still jumping hoops here (if that makes you feel better? but probably not). Anyway it certainly won't hurt to collect some references to recent cars for sale, links from this forum, eBay ads, specialist classifieds like carsales.com.au - comparing similar cars and specification. Use it to establish a ballpark figure of what you think your car is worth. Send it to their assessor or company and say based on these cars I value my 260z at this price. If you know it's a reasonable price don't let them low ball you into accepting an amount that won't cover replacing poor old Oscar. In my experience after I hit them with all the facts and showed them you couldn't replace my car with the value they put on it, they eventually decided to talk turkey and agreed on my price it did take 3 weeks from the first offer though. Showing before photos really helped also! They saw the car was mint. They hate having open cases so they will want to close it as soon as possible and settle. Keep in mind the guy/girl giving you the offer may be a 3rd party company hired specifically to get you to accept the lowest possible offer. It's like sales in reverse the lower the price he gets you to accept the more commission they make. Hope that helps mate. Quote
Fairlady Z Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 A letter came today from the ladies insurance company confirming the accident and asking me to contact them for quotation and assessment of my Zed. I took Oscar to a local panel shop (one of the largest in Ballarat) and was given a flat no, they will not quote or repair a vehicle of my type. It was suggested i take it to a restoration specialist. Keeping a diary since the accident, i'm not in too much pain as long as i keep moving but i wake between 2 and 3 am with back pain every morning. welcome to my world 3yrs+ after accident still battling mate. still same issue. pain killers, chiros physio's god know what else i tried and not much improvment. been told will never be as I was. :'( big tip. GET A GOOD LAWYER.... and don't wait too long get it going asap. Quote
Fairlady Z Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 regarding write off that's not a write off don't accept it. get quotes get indenpendent evaluator to vlaue the car. the car value top of my head be 15-25K pending condition and work done. and i hope u have shannons or decent insurance compant/policy. never making that mistake twice. PM me for details. mate gone through the same thing having same issues and still going so brace yourself for a long stressful painful few years ahead. not trying to scare you just to prepare you. Scoota G Posted March 21, 2013 Author Posted March 21, 2013 Once any panel repair shop classes a vehicle as a total loss they have to inform vic roads and the registration is cancelled. Quote
Scoota G Posted April 10, 2013 Author Posted April 10, 2013 just had the insurance assessor here and he offered me $5000 and the vehicle back. When he asked what do you think the car is worth i replied with $12500 and all i got was a pfffft! Quote
PZG302 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Was that her company's assessor? If so tell him to jamb that offer where the sun don't shine with a pineapple dipped in chilli. If have your own insurer then do everything through them, or get quote from restoration shop and fire that back to them. It also might be worth going and have a chat to a friendly lawyer, might be time to spend a little to get a lot..... Quote
dat2kman Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 And any quote should have a contingies allowance, in case of further damage not able to be seen, but shows up once repairs have commenced. Quote
Scoota G Posted April 10, 2013 Author Posted April 10, 2013 Yea that was her companies assessor. I could fix the vehicle for that price, but someone else would not be able to. The fact that he laughed at me was an insult but i expected that. Would cost $1500 just to pull the vehicle back straight. Might be hard for me to get a quote from a local restoration shop as i have talked to these guys before and they only work on high end Muscle cars. Quote
Retro Z Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Would you be able to get it towed to Paul (Ledge) in SA? At least you know it would be a good job. Quote
Scoota G Posted April 10, 2013 Author Posted April 10, 2013 Would you be able to get it towed to Paul (Ledge) in SA? At least you know it would be a good job. The guy out here near Haddon is Brilliant at straightening cars, he did Dales 240Z that the hill bit a chunk out of. Adding up the figures for me to fix it i come at $6825. Quote
CroS13 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 just had the insurance assessor here and he offered me $5000 and the vehicle back. When he asked what do you think the car is worth i replied with $12500 and all i got was a pfffft! Man this makes my blood boil as i had a similar experience! Many many moons ago one of my S13 Silvia's got written off. Back then as a 1st year apprentice i could only afford 3rd party fire and theft, so no full comp insurance for me. Accident wasn't my fault, my insurance company didn't want a bar of it, didn't want to help me in the matter, nothing, all they suggested is i wrote a letter of demand to other person. I paid 12k for the car, it was a SR20 turbo manual "K's" model, top of the line. The insurance assessor came out and valued the car at $5000. I went ape at him. That was their final offer. Back then, you could not even buy a non turbo automatic model for 5k, they were still around 7k mark. Pretty much every single Silvia for sale in the same spec as mine started at 9k for the worst of the worst, on carsales, ebay, trading post, the minimum was 9k for them. I emailed and faxed about 20 pages with around 30 advertisements of said cars on them, i even showed them redbook valued the car at 8.5k, 2.5k more than their "expert assessment" I took it as high as i could speaking to managers etc and their final offer was 5.5k and i could keep the car. I got f**ked over, not my fault and i lost half the value of my car, and no money to buy the same thing. Lucky the motor was still good, and i was able to buy a rolling gutted out shell for 4k, and i swapped over everything and got it working again, but the time and PITA that was, not fair. Trust me i feel your pain brother, i hope to god it all comes right for you, but sadly, i think its looking like you will get bent over too. Awesome isn't it, these things aren't your fault, and you end up getting shafted over it, insurance is to compensate you.... yeah right... Rudolf. Quote
ZED83 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I would at least try an get $8-9 out of them and keep your car! That way you'll have some left over to paint it all the ONE colour I say fight for it!!! Quote
PZG302 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I got hit by some numpty in a Camry when I had my zg fairlane. Rear bar pushed into quarter, springs out of alignment, taillights and the plastic trim between them, basically made of unobtanium at the time. I was lucky I was with shannons, rang them, let them know aami had left a message was told not to reply or talk to them at all as that was their job. As I was relatively new to Brisbane they also sorted a shop for me local to go to and even went so far as sending the rearbar to sSydney for repairs and rechroming as one is as good condition could not be found. The also paid for the time to find a set rear lights and the trim between them. I was very happy with their service and have had cars insured with them since the early 90's. I would recommend to anyone here to vet their cars insured by a specialist and actually lol at what the policy provides you. Price should be one of the last things taken into consideration when selecting a good policy. I know this doesn't help Scooter, but it may save someone else a lot of grief. Quote
Scoota G Posted April 14, 2013 Author Posted April 14, 2013 At this point with the other Zed nearly ready for rego i'm wondering if i should bail out of the 2 seater and let them take the thing, i'm sure someone here would end up with the car. I don't feel like driving it much, perhaps it's time to move on. Quote
luvemfast Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 It's your choice at the end of the day Mark. Taking the $5k and salvage rights might not be such a bad idea, if you don't want to stretch out the heartache. Quote
Scoota G Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 Well i spoke to him just then and i threw a number at him and he met me a little more than half way. I think your comment Simon was the one that threw me to a quick resolution. Now to decide if i'll Take the good gear off him, put the original motor back in and sell him or repair. Just have to wait and see. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted April 15, 2013 Moderators Posted April 15, 2013 Probably not a good idea to sell in that state..you will get sweet FA for a car that needs a fair bit of repairs to get driving again. Best to repair it yourself as you have all the skill and knowledge to do it whereas plenty of others like myself have NFI when it comes to body repairs of that magnitude. Selling it as a road going zed will get you much more. Just my 2 pesos. Quote
Moderators PB260Z Posted April 18, 2013 Moderators Posted April 18, 2013 Hi Mark I am with Dimitri's 2 pesos on this one. Also in my humble opinion probably better not to make a decision so soon, with some time you may feel very different things. Quote
luvemfast Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 If you're going to fix it. You may as well keep it! Quote
Scoota G Posted November 12, 2013 Author Posted November 12, 2013 Seems like a world away now but i pulled my finger out (plus the tools) and got stuck into Getting the rear straight. Turns out the damage was not as bad as i thought. After it went on the rack it seems the quarter absorbed most of the impact. It must have been a glancing blow. Even the bumper and bracket straightened really easy. I'm looking at a plan to reskin the other door, fix the other dogleg then some other small repairs so i can respray the entire car to enable me to delay the actual restoration for a couple of years. benny Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 itll take more then a bump to kill kermit! Quote
