  1. My SP310 comment was included because both it and the S30 were raced and while the difference between the two is of course obvious that does not lessen the favourable impact the S30 had on former SP310 racers when first rolled out in standard form for racing. As with any car for racing it was immediately prepared for that purpose and continuously improved but the point worth noting is the suitability of the S30 for racing in the first place. An indicator of that is that a S30 could be bought and prepared for the cost of a new unprepared Porsche and the fact that a S30 can still be competitive against modern cars with similar power, preferably lots more than standard
  2. Not many SSS around so prices are going to be all over the place, depending on what's available at the time and how urgent a sale/purchase is.

    Lofty Drews Run.

The P to P cars have to carry any spares and equipment with them, no service vehicles allowed which is a good thing really.
  4. What annoys me about a lot of local businesses that sell import car stuff is that they grab the distribution rights for Australia but then don't stock the stuff and/or load up the price, apparently to make their weekly profit in one hit. The real problem of course is the cost of doing business in this country, most of it govco related. As for getting overseas sellers to collect GST, what a joke. It's things like this which make you wonder where we are headed if this is the sort of mentality that is running the country.

Yep, LHD because all the countries they will pass through are LHD, a marvelously prepared car with so much attention to detail. Eg single Holley carb to simplify any maintenance required, light truck tyres because rally tyres won't last the distance, two fuel tanks so as to quarantine any bad batch of fuel. And so on.
  6. The US race experience with the S30 is very instructive I think, when they first got hold of the 240 they found that it was race ready in standard form and capable of beating all the competition, including Porsche. They also found that the difference in handling between the Zed and the Fairlady Sports significant which indicates that the S30 was a big step forward for Nissan. In my experience the Zed is mechanically superior to the euros of the time but inferior body wise. I'm not an engineer but suggest that the S30 is a fine example of simple but effective and thorough automotive engineering, one of the very best.
  7. Duh to me, thanks for the correction Jnr
  8. Final A Series Sprint is on this weekend, looks like there will be a big Q Z Car Club spectating attendance too.
  9. Yeh we'll get there. The boys think that overall the auto will be no heavier than the manual setup, the single plate LS clutch and flywheel are massive plus it had a steel bell housing in case the clutch decided to self destruct. But if the auto conversion was going to be done again I'd look at using a alternative system of control that I have in mind.
  10. Personally I think that the S130 chrome looks good, except perhaps for the B pillar bit. Which can be partially blacked out. Except for the bumpers I think that these shortys are the best looking Z ever made.
  11. Nothing like some saucy wenches and a road trip
  12. I'm too fussy Jason, regularly look at what rear drive race cars are for sale but then think what I could build for what prices some ask. The only ones that look suitable and are at the right price are bloody BMW's. The Z is not far away, once the shifter is sorted that's about it. Could have gone with easier to do steering wheel paddle shifters but prefer a floor shift and Sports Sedan rules don't allow the others.
  13. Bloody Ebay global freight program, G8 shifter took ages to arrive after sitting in a shed somewhere in the US for two weeks. Anyway the boys now have it but it's not straight forward because there is some fancy switching to be worked out otherwise it looks suitable. Don't know about anyone else but damn I miss not having a track car, with Morgan Park ten minutes away............
  14. Pic of said Triumph
  15. The second last paragraph of what Mike quoted is just not accurate. Back in the day I fitted a Triumph Spitfire with a Triumph 2000 engine and gearbox and aftermarket six inch wide wheels then got it registered the usual way things were done then ie fill in a form and pay some money. There were no vehicle inspections, nothing. Six inch wheels were relatively big too, much wider than the originals. Someone with a vivid imagination has come up with a view of how things were, that's all it is.
  16. The comments are even better, serious stuff :'(
  17. Some Porsce 911 owners are getting all excited about the rise in prices for their cars, it seems that there is a bit of a investment trend for older iconic cars so some caution may be advisable. Although it's hard to consider that S30 and 911 prices will ever go down.
  18. If Historic racing is to be treated seriously by the viewing public then it needs to provide actual racing which involves more than just allowing an improvement for one car on the basis of a historic anomaly eg like one dealer fitting wider wheels to cars he sold. Brakes obviously can confer a racing advantage so any improvements should be carefully considered but perhaps allowing the use of same diameter front vented rotors to replace solids would be reasonable.
  19. One on the edge lap > 100 lesser laps.
  20. Power steering is a must I reckon, lost a bit of feel with mine but the improvement in steering reaction speed made up for that, lots.
  21. Yeh I don't think that car is involved in the pizza delivering business any more
  22. StopTech make good calipers, have heard that some of their rotors are made by Brembo.
  23. No personal experience here but using E85 is a popular choice for those who want more power. Obviously the engine has to be retuned, is there any reason why compression can't be increased on a Sc spec engine?
  24. I'd be more concerned about what condition it's in seeing that you apparently have doubts, a car like that really needs checking first by someone appropriate.
  25. Love the evil green effect, this is going to be one of the cars to beat for sure. It will be all up to the driver now
