Thanks Andrew, appreciate the kind words. Had an uninterrupted day in the shed today courtesy of the abismal Melbourne weather. I had previsouly mounted the ECU to an alloy plate on the passenger side firewall but realised it was too small to include all the other boxes so I had to make a bigger one that extends in behind the blower motor which is missing in these shots. This is the first go at putting it all together in the car including all the feeds the ECU and the EWS security system needs to see from behind the ignition switch. Without the ECU and relays: With the ECU and relays, still needs a bit more tidy up but if I had fuel and cooling systems in place I could strt up.....hopefully: Beer time.....cheers

So the guys who used Carbuilders: What was it like to work with and apply?

Thanks for all the responses guys. I kinda agree with Agno and Peter Allen, one of the concerns I have with the BMW engine is that it will be too refined and lack any "character" so allowing a bit more NVH may enhance the experience....and as Jake points out its not a daily!

Sounds like they are much of a muchness....all do the same thing. Peter, I contemplated the same spartan interior but I know what Im like and the chances of me pulling everything up to do it at some time in the future isnt high!

In my enthusiasm to put the car back together I forgot about sound deadening....before I dive into this I'm keen to hear what people think of the various products on the market. Looking at products like : http://trufitcarpets.com.au/index/resomat/ and http://www.dynamat.com/automotive-and-transportation/automotive-restoration/dynamat-xtreme/ or are they a waste of time? Thanks. David

I'm lucky Jeff I dont suffer from bad butt rash and have never used creams. Not MTB for this one, I bought a roadie a while ago for longer rides. I normally do 100km/6 hour MTB races but have done some longer ones so feel pretty comforatble that 320km will be Ok in a non race environment. Cheers

When I'm not working on my project I'm usually training or competing on my MTB....which explains why my project is taking so long! I’ve just signed up to ride from Melbourne to Deniliquin in a Day or DiaD which is a 320km ride in support of http://www.whiteribbon.org.au/ on 25th November. The team of people involved in this are only small but very dedicated to the cause. If you have a few spare dollars, please go to my supporter page https://give.everydayhero.com/au/david-fettell-diad-2016 and make a donation for a worthy cause.....my arse and legs will thank you for it after a long day in the saddle! Thanks David

Love the noise this thing makes....proper race car with the dog box whine!

Thanks dat240z, have to keep reminding myself not to cut corners. Having come this far.....would be kicking myself if I let anything slip. Real progress today, hopefully its in for good and I won't have any reason to pull it! Not that its hard to R & R. Will need to reroute the front wiring harness, didnt realise it was that close to the exhaust....a good example of what happens when you dont install everything in the preliminary build.

Thanks Gav, Im particularly chuffed with how the gold plating works with 920. I was little concerned about the door latches as they are silver/zinc from the factory but confident they wont look out of place in gold. Yep, charged S54 is awesome but doesnt fit the brief for me....I l looked at NA S54 but FBW throttle was a hurdle to far at the time. David

Now that Ive got all the hardware plated I can start bolting stuff in for the last time.....fuel and brake lines first with all the nice plated brackets! I decide to leave the engine bay brake lines in the natural zinc finish and painted the fuel and brake lines going to the rear in black. Looked at powder coating but blocking the ends and masking the threads was going to be an issue. I went for a pretty serious Fuel Labs filter and had to make a bracket to support it, making sure it was pointed in the right location to connect to the fuel module.
-
That is very trick!
-
Damn.....cant make this most likely unless some other things change.
-
....Im facing the same issue. No way I will present my car with 16 x 8 rims Im going to run but I havent checked if the brakes Im using will fit under the allowable size wheel

Been away for a week (school holidays) so haven't done anything but think about it. Today I picked up the bits I had dropped off for plating before I left, every nut bolt, washer, bracket, latch and bit that was going back on the car.... 10kg worth.....all that glitters is gold!

Very nice Jeff. Which fuel pump module are you using?
