  1. Few rally/tarmac Zeds running pairs of these, yes they fit.
  2. Now advertised on a rally forum, Anyone keen on a performance box, suit sprints hillclimbs, should grab this, before some rally demon does, and fills it full of rally dirt!
  3. If using suction cup type mounts, and it's a CAMS event, def need a secondary tether, ie a few cable ties looped together in a saisy chain, attached to something that is secure. If in doubt prior to event, do above, no matter what the mount, the Scruts will look at it, and say nothing!
  4. Denied by who? Has any query been pit to QRO? For either Lakeside or QR Clubman layout? The "survey", was this not based on answers from attendees at a Lapz day, ie groups of 15-20 out for sperited driving, as opposed to the more serious regular sprints guys, that go a fair bit harder in groups of 6-8 cars? The simple reason for the suggestion of QR Clubman is one of safety, ease of getting a date, greater possibility of slotting in with other race groups on a race day. You'll no doubt make sure it wont happen, ' cos it's not at Lakeside! Note, above quote comes from a non-serioys Lapz entrant, that rubbishes teacks like MP ( unless its the super fast TR after bridge layout, not the ones in common accepted regular use) As further above, if at all pissible, later in 2014, I will ask again, of the HRCC, to do what we did, many years ago, it will be Lakeside, but, as Mike said above, to do a flags race at QR Clubman, would be more "attractive" overall.
  5. You could run a nice little hobby business knocking those out? Have you done the calcs on material costings, your labour, a bit extra per unit for IP/development? Based on, say 10 pairs ? The more youu make the less your costs! These look very good, well done!
  6. Your target time is 2.45 That was in a Historic category Group S car, very unmodified and poor aero, and 6" rims. compared to the majority of sprints entered S30 Zeds, running triples, 8" rims, low profile sticky rubber etc
  7. I run a 4.1, but rpm a bit higher, 7700. On GearCalc program thats 245 down Conrod, but the 4.1 gives pretty good climb up the hill. 3.9 or less gets a bit boggy
  8. Qld Raceway will have far more opportunities to allow a grid of Z car Racing in with their other race groups, more so than at the often reffered to as dangerous, Lakeside. You are under QRO licensing and safety requirements, NOT AASA For sure dispensation for logbooks for a one off type event could be applied. Few years back, the do-ers in the ZCCQ at the time, actually did this very thing, it worked fine then, as it would now. Those that have had race experience, under AASA, QRO as well as CAMS, are more in a position to know the how what why and where, compared to those who have no idea, suggest something of interest, wants rules re-written, and spits baby dum-dums when it goes a bit pear shaped. It is not that hard. Alongside pZG302 offering to assist and mentor, I too, would be able to do likewise. We've, along with a few others, have done a fair bit of this, over many years, as opposed to the odd day a year sprinter, who has minimal experience.
  9. Throwaway comments like Nanny state Well done Etc, from a Lakeside protagonist, ha! It is Lakeside that is now making these compulsory for race events. You have cars that have cost you what, 20,30,40,50 k, you pay series fees, entry fees, each year, to play, you spend plenty getting to and fro, and on accomodation, you think nothing of buying the fastest and the best, etc AND now you whinge and bitch and moan about a one off upgrade cost for a HANS, and a fresh helmet? AND bring the club that has the potential to get something happening, at two of the most easy administatively run tracks in Austealia, down, all because of something that can and does save lives! AND you are on the steering committee for NDN15. Really letting us all know the true colours! Priceless!
  10. There is high, and there is HIGH! Stuff like LAT, Brad Penn, Joe Gibbs, is all HIGH, ie from 5000ppm and up. Oils conforming to current SF spec for normal use, as approved by various EPA bodies will allow 50 to 150 ppm Which for our upper head valveteains, is not good enough. Links to OTECH product spec sheets please? The majority of oil bottlers won't even tell you how little zinc is contained!
  11. Nanny state? You are quite wrong! qRO ( Queensland Raceways Operations-the two brisbane tracks) are very pro-active in getting those that actually want to do something a bit more than just plain sprints, into the next step, ie flag to flag. Cars do not need to be CAMS full on rules type, but more lenient ie: they want you on the teack, and paying them the $$. Pretty much any of the caged sprinter Zeds could participate in a flags event, and they'd be in with other similar type cars. Bot registered and unregistered. Any Tarmac rally car would fit right in. The biggest hurdle, if wanting to run at other than QRO tracks, is CAMS and the requirement for not only a car to Group 2 Sports car regs, but, in addition, the particular specification apparel ( suit/gloves/socks/balaclava/shoes/helmet/or correct helmet with HANS device) Nanny State? No way, it is too easy to go and race,,,,, if you rwally want to, in Qld.
  12. Aub, Explain to those who may be interested in this sort of thing, but just dont get the bearicratic red tape stuff about" need to join and buy a special event license" ?? It's a drive on public roads, from A-B-C etc, open to anyone on, lets say a forum, that this has been advertised on, why the "red tape"? Surely one can drive one's car to whatever, see and say hi, to others etc?
  13. Have QRO actually specified the helmets in their HANS sales info? I think not, A older, but modified for QRO's 2014 requirements to run HANS helmet, in some cases may not meet CAMS requirements. You buy a HANS from anywhere, read their fitting instructions, follow precisely, BUT, some may be OK for QRO tracks, and AASA tracks ( note they are not the same now) but not OK for CAMS tracks. Ambiguous, and CAMS are ignorant about this! Yes, build a dar to pre-existing rules, not build a hybrid hotrod one off sports sedan salt lake missile, and try to write up new rules so that it complies. As said above If you are aqld based, and want to have a go at door to door Sports Car Racing, in older type, but rather modified, within reason, Zeds, then there are a few one off events available, but a Zed does need to be mostly Zed, ie L engine, triples or FI, screw/adjusty suspension, fat rims, ie 2F or 2B regs, not 2A/ Sports Sedan stuff. Let me know, and i will try to push for it, it can only be at a QRO track, later on in 2014, date TBA
  14. I can just hear Peter Hetho screaming, "What about me----it isn't fair, i drive a Mazda, and i'm on the chair!" Better to be flexible and full, with variety, rather than stodgy and too restrictive! There are not enough Z's in Qld to do more than a "once off" day!! Late last year i put a call out for non Group S cars, ie Zeds to the ZCCQ guys that have suitable cars that would very eadily have fitted in to Group S and T, but not one, nadda, nothing , zip, showed. It was to A, get some Z sprinters into full races, And B, fill up a grid to break even on cost of a block, it was run at a loss. HRCC buy blocks of 20 break even is 16 cars at $270 per car for TWO days racing. A QRO TopGear race meet in 2014, just may, if lucky have a grid avail, as a once off
  15. Aub, I'd be in that in a flash! In one Datsun or another, or even an old rally Datsun on tarmac tyres! One thing, as the Z owners value their cars a bit more than most, the race events would tend to be more "polite" and hopefully all finish unscathed. If it was to happen, it would only be under a QRO's track using their licensing. As far as numbers, if you restrict it purely to Z club members, you would get plenty of "gunnas" but not enough " do-ers" to fill the required grid to make it not only pay, but to make it spectator worthy. Maybe run one block/grid as Sprints/Regularity, and a second block/grid as Racing. HRCC use QRO to do exactly this, but have the numbers to occupy four blocks. It would need to be done only on a QRO race meeting, not their sprints meets, as their Race days will have full marshalls and safety teams.
  16. First, what is your max dollar amount you can spend on just buying the car, Then How much will you be prepared to spend on the rebuilding? Or, Buy an already mostly done car, much easier on the brain and wallet!
  17. What, Like CAMS rules Group 2B Sports cars, Or for unmodded, lower budget entry level, 2F Sports cars. Or A year cutoff date of say December 1976 Historic Group S Sports Cars, Or, Lakeside's and Qld Raceway's own Outlaws class, for the very modified and not legally road registerable, like your 280ZXT with plastic windows, aero mods, fibreglass doorskins. Plenty classes there, pick one build to the regs and go out and play. To setup a pure Z class only, ie S30/S130, fat rims, flares ok, triple carbs, DOT rubber, caged and drivers licensed up ( AASA, or CAMS or even the stand alone QRO -not part of AASA anymore) for an event operator to be prepared to give a "one off" class/group it's own grids, you'd need min numbers, at some tracks, ie PI, Sandown, EC, at least 20 cars, before organiser will even consider it. The drama is, getting the minimum numbers. Bathurst is at least 40, any less they laugh at you. Where would McKeon's Z fit in,? Sinisha's? Merit in the idea, but we need numbers, and to get the numbers at each and every event is a tall ask! Someone in Z club in , say Qld could approach QRO, as they have numbers, and QRO licensing as extremely easy to obtain, and buy/purchase a grid for proper door to door races, and then try to get the entries rolling in. Unfortunately, too many " Gunna's" to risk it,,,, or maybe not?
  18. Pzg302 here ran the Willwoods with 15's using Verada discs, no problems. James i got a few sets of the Wata Type R knockoffs in 19x9 at neg 13, go squeezy and a bit of guard massage, will just fit, or go a fat 225 or a 245 and run flares. Easy enough to bring them back to a neg 8 mm.
  19. Yes, a number of old cranky farts, who invented drifting, 40 years ago! Almost every set of traffic lights on King Georges rd through Punchbowl and Lakemba, had a certain 2400cc Dato 1600 proceeding through them, not facing the correct direction of travel, quite often!
  20. I use a Gemini cover, re-levered to provide 1350 kgs of clamp pressure, on a machined steel L20B size fly, with a five puck solid centre plate. Works well, Low moment of inertia in getting it to change it's rpm, due to lower outer mass. Use ARP bolts for Toyota 3SGE. Have a set of brand new ones if anyone interested!
  21. 2.6 first gearset, much betterer, The ones i got,, dont look anywhere near as shiny and clean Have sold a few original 260 ( 2.9 ratio gearset) over the years, these are very popular with the rally boys! Try it on BMSC forum Locky?
  22. When you find a block ( any will do, ie 24/26/28) grab yourself some number stamps, and re-stamp that block. Very strong chance, ie 99.9% that the original block blew/worn out/ died/was chucked in a bin, so the rego authourities won't have a clue. I have here a block, a four cylinder, from a totally different Nissan, fitted to another Nissan, it has the original block number stamped on it, no issues with rego mob, as the original ventilated itself.
  23. Yes, and did you see how disgustingly filthy the air in China is, and the wide use of breathing masks! Coal fired, huge demand, very cold, all contributes to the crap air quality. I too am in Qld, run tank water only, no council water, five tanks, ( for fire fighting) a large pool, three adults, a readonable efficient house, except for the LV Halogen lights! Roof mounted solar hot water, 400 litre tank. The pool and SHW is on cheaper tariff 33, rest is on std tariff 11 Our bill per qtr tells us we used approx 2000 kwh, , but the 5kw grid connect solar cells on the roof, send back enough, that we get a cheque each qtr, from $90 to $200, depending on season. Before last round of price rises, cheques were $140 - 300 per qtr. More rises to come in 2014 Are we bad for relieving the demand on the grid, due to the solar system? In last two years the solar system qtly rebates have been cut, many now still get a bill to pay.
  24. Thas orlrite! I'm in Brissy, you're in Melbum, he's in Sideknee,,,,, Go for the re-builts, mine are as removed!
  25. Got a set of Hilux calipers for the front. In Brisbane, can freight.
