  1. Righto, I have plenty, most one meeting old, some have done two meetings, and still plenty life and stickiness left Hoosier Street TD in 205/60x14 four off at $400 ( $100 ea) these fit on a 7"rim, and are lower in sidewall than the marked 60% !! No i cannot go to Canberra I am in a 10.4 ton truck with a racecar on the back so getting lost looking for things is not an option. I will require payment prior to me bringing anything, I dont know if we have time for pictures etc, as they are on rims, and I need to get them stripped etc, I have to work this week, and the weekend is spent getting ready for the run south. Doesnt leave much time, but at above prices including delevery to Goul/Yass, this is well under 1/2 price on retail for these best to ring me direct on 0403 071 294
  2. Ah yes, but he can put a Z motor and box and diff in it eniways the mob over in SAU are all into r series and whooshbang turbo stuff K's are OK welcome, you beat me to it!
  3. Hodgo, dont need cash, but do need plenty of 205or 225 /65 x 14 rear tyres for the 7x14 rims, ( Dunny SP52's in soft compound YAY), I got 6 newish !!!Dunlop SP61's for the front, and , more important, and quite desperately, some unground FJ20 blank billet camshafts, or some proper 74 and 76 degree fj24 cams The ones in it ( installed by last owner here inQld) are crazy 80+ degree, 325 duration bloody great for 5000 to 9000 rpm no damn good for Alpine, I need it to pull clean from 2500 and good to 7500 It was not fun at Targa, and that was on smoother flowing bitumen, but the few tight hairpins had it struggling. Ask around tassie for me. Nismo/Nissan, Stew Wilkins and B Wilkinson have zip
  4. Prizes? Money? no way, in good old days of rallying ( 1980 to 1988) we used to win stuff and $$$, quite often, but in historic motorsport, it is considerd vulgar. We just do it for the sheer love and joy of driving our very very old cars as fast as we wish to, as often as we can, in as many places as we can do it, before we die. We are all a long time dead. To do PI from Qld, getting there, entry, accom, fuel, transport, maintenance on car, tyres etc I dont budget or make allowance, but I reckon I will drop around $2 to 3 k. I am being asked by the organisers to bring the George Fury 120Y rally car to the 2011 Alpine rally in Nov 2011, they have made an attractive offer to get me there, but it will still cost in excess of $3k, just to drive around the forests, make a lot of noise, talk to a lot of old people about famous old cars and famous drivers, get media coverage, do interviews, and show off an old car restored to its original as rallied spec in the early 1980's. I gotta sell a lot of black stuff to do all this, hey Lurch! If I didnt do this, I would probably be sailing big mofo boats up and down the coast, or flying a plane or a helicopter, or something, all costs bucks, and I'm just spending my kids inheritance before they get it! I have cupboards and shelves full of trophies of tin, plastic, wood and metal, but the mostest favourite and memorable, was the one we got for coming first "Novice Grade Four Rally cCew at the 1982 Ford Four Car Clubs Spring 200 Rally, in the Narbethong area in Vic, just past Healesville, that, and the trophy ( 2 foot tall) for winning the NSW State Rally Championship in 1988
  5. up at the HRCC Test weekend at Warwick, you got a few mentions, all good too, most were quite impressed with how a "non current" car did so well! Just remember consistency is the key, do all the rounds, and all the races etc, and presto!
  6. bit of a hassle, but dissasemble, at least the spring wont go BOING and fly away, drill a couple small 4 or 5 mm holes on inside of spring perches/seats top and bottom, and then reassemble, and use some smallish diam wire wrap around a half dozen times to hold spring in place. Common trick when lowereing old Datos by the finesse of gas torch and angle grinder! This will stop them possibly flopping out when you either jack it up, or go flying over really bumpy roads, or hitting curbs on race tracks!
  7. Hodgo, put the bite on your mate pete for a entry ticket, or you can buy them on the day, Pete will get four tickets. mine are all allocated, sorry. I'll have plenty of pics on the ipad of the 120Y for you to have multiples over! RS200 you saw could have been Rob Sherrards ( Ex Virgin beancounter and Aussie co-founder) it is a "media" car and was never used as a group B Rally car in the day, he is a resident of Tassie nowadays. the Esky bda ( was number plate IYK000? if so it was John Haddon, he is reluctant to bring it out and have a go, otherwise it could have been one of the many replica copycat cars that seem to be popping up, just like GTHO Phase 3 Falcoons! Eniways catch up with me at PI, just look for a real old Datsun, red in colour, that dont got no roof down on the grassy bit, over pedestrian bridge then turn right and stroll.
  8. On again, over 500 cars, two grids of Sports car (production) one grid os special sports, ( big bangers) plenty of touring cars etc, and for sure some Z's running in regularity, and some in the car parks as well! I'll be there in the mighty little Datsun Sports 2000, but this time, event organisers have bumped me up into the faster Group Sc prod sports, ( something about me winning all four races last year, ) with all the big DeTomaso's, porsche 911's. Alfa GTV's, and probably Pater Halls very quick Z from Adelaide. If you are in the pits, down on the grassy area, stop by and say Hi, i'm always good for a chat! Oh and if anyone needs something carted to and from Bris/Melb/Bris, happy to help if I can! Jason
  9. My old mate, erstwhile rapid rally driver, winner of the 1988 NSW StaTe Rally Champs and current President of the Z Car Club NSW, wants us to know that this event is DEFINATELY on, and that entries are closing real soon, once thay have sorted all entries out, they will be contacting all to advise further. The track day will incorporate two events a hillclimb and a lapdash/sprints, so at the entry fee asked, is good value. yes there will be some that say it is too pricey, but look at the event as a "whole" package of Nissan Datsun Bi-Annual Loving and Appreciation!
  10. Due to poplarity of the 2010 event this will be sure to fill up fast. get your details into Dusty marshall ASAP. All are welcome, you do not need a full on track car, those that attended last year had a great time! There is no pressure to join the Z club or be a member of Z club Qld , just come along enjoy the day, get to meet plenty of Z owners and see their cars up close in the pits, and on the track!
  11. The guys over at Rising Sun/Seven of clubs are holding a free car show, ie no charge to rock up before 8.30 am and park your car in side the complex and it is generally all over by approx 2pm. google it for details, but basics, it is in Earnshaw Rd Banyo/Nudgee Toombul area, Sunday 20th February, they will no doubt have the bbq and drinks for sale etc. Z Car Club Qld is getting a few lads to give their cars a run, and we would really like to have a decen showing of Zeds all in a raow, to show these Mazada people what we can do. Come along pleae. google is your friend I.m taking a little old Datsun 120Y
  12. Aaahh just show them the FIA approved, and Japan Auto Federation initiated Homologation papers that you can buy from CAMS Australia, that show that 10inch rears and 8 inch fronts were valid for group 4 cars, the section for rim sizes has "Not Valid for PRC" stamped over it. PRC is Aussie CAMS speak for "Production Rally Car" ie a dirt car. Oh and they ran 4.5 inch wide stocko steel rims with very skinny pumped up to like 50 psi tyres for when it bucketted down with rain on the Japanese race tracks. there is a wonderful image on the Jap Watanbe website, driver even is wearing the de-riguer white "pudding basin" style helmet too!
  13. GTI-Z, surely you do not mean to say that the Porkers with their fancy fule injection are running non standard as produced by the porker factory in Germany?? In my Group Sc 280z ( USA Spec) I have to and am running the stock fuel injection setup and ecu, it is just that i am telling the ecu certain things by way of variable resistors in the signals going to the ecu, to make the ecu do what I want it to do, a bit like changing the air and fuel jets on a Weber, or, changing the SU neddle on a SUHitachi carb on a 240/260Z! The Mazda RX2's got their wish some time ago, ie Bridgeporting, they also are safety conciuos in the whole Group N filed, and allow the cars to run a better brake packge, diam must stay the same, but vented and four piston cals is fine, not like Group S, you must run stock as supplied/produced by factory!! The fuel injected guys in Sc do not have an advantage, they cannot ( or shouldn't be) use the latest and greatest ecu's throttle bodies, etc, as we are to use the stock throttle body ( 280z is a stock ID of 48mm) the Porkers have an advantage in that they have two throttle bodies of some 45 mm diam, where as the Alfa GTV can use twin anythings ( Dellorto/Weber in anysize they like, ie up to 48mm, they cant get the 55mm ones to suck air enuf, oh gee !!) I really am amazed I can get my Zed to run as well as it does in Sc, it has drawbacks, and I have to drive around these on track, it is fun though, but, the Datsun Sports 2000 is like a go kart on steroids compared to the 280Z! James Fletts 260 walks away from me at Sandown, and Eastern Creek, but I get him at Bathurst!
  14. And please shove some pieces of rag down each hole, in case anything happens to sort of just fall in!
  15. Yeh, me too, hay DAZDA, whats the story with your rotary connection? I too have a rotary, it is a histroric sports sedan ( group U) and I am trying to get it finished, gets some events under it's wheels and then look to selling it off. I am more Datsun than Mazda anyway, but, it seemed like a interesting idea at the time!! I'm Brisbane based, and am aware of the gun shops down there, (issy Sveticic and Guru)
  16. YAAAYYYY Another Datsun Sports 2000, one day we will rule! Seriously, if it wasn't for the Datsun Sports2000's/Fairlady model, the Zcar would not have been born!!! Be proud, and welcome!
  17. I ran an overly modified Datsun 120Y at THC 2010, had a blast, it was gret fun. At scrutineering for the event there was not a lot, if any, at all of vehicle compliance checking. The class seems to be late Classic, with varoious subclasses depending on the mods done, this is aimed at the handicapping system they use, at the end of the day if you enter it as a stocko car, and it is bristling with mods, and you dont get caught/protested, you are only cheating yourself! If in doubt ask the guru of Tarmac stuff, Rob Devenish, his son Dan is on here, and will no doubt wade in here soonish?? Just do it, great value if you are a mainlander, I would not normally go to the expense and transport hassles of a trip to Tassie.'The other event is the Baw Baw tarmac event, early on in the year, less cost, less distance, and a good shakedown run
  18. new hotness is to sell something back to the Japanese, crazy figures! Like 5 million yen paid for a restored( nicely) sr311 Datsun Sports 2000 all those YENS you could fill a bathtub and go fap fap fap Zeds seem to get good prices too. Nissan factory paid couple million yen to "get" back a rare model Prince Skyline a year or so back I was offered a 2010 competiton only r35gtr skyli for just 12 million yen, this is a baragin I was told, when i had a look at the car and the spares package, I was like, "Dear wife, I am buying you a new toy"
  19. def remove the intake man, makes the job eaiser, and yes soak in wd 40, come back a day later, soak in more wd40, repeat for next four days, then pick up the spanner!
  20. so two weeks ago I am in Japan visting Nismo and get an invite to the Zama storage wharehouse, and what do I see, and get info on but these tow, along with a genuine Z432. First is a SCCN white Z fitted with a LY28 LY??? It is a L bottom end with a crossflow Y head fited, see pics. The other thing is what grabbed my goolies, and on asking the head of nismo, he confirmed that Nissan supplied/sold to the Japanese Highway Patrol/Police Department some 30 of these police cars, fitted with ZG nose, flares wider rims and tyres, four piston brakes and the 432 engine 9 de-tuned) These were sold to the Jap Popo to catch all the naughty boys on the Wangan's ( expressways) late at night. They even supplied ,in 1966 the original Sylvia CSP311 model as a police car. I am now getting direct confirmation from nissan as to what spec the police car was and will then attempt to hit CAMS Australia with this information. Apparently the bloody poms, krauts and Yanks can get away with all sorts of mods to their so called 'stock" as produced by the car manufactures sports cars. Please, tell me how in hell a Shelby GT350 Mustang is a "sports car" the white one in Aus group S in genuine, the green one is a 'parts" asembled car, and not genuine,'cept for the repro alloy ID tags fitted!! Buch of bloody cheaters. Wait till we get our Group S zeds fitted with flares, G noses, Sumitome four piston calpers, vented front brakes, rims up to 10 inches wide, twincam four valve head, triple carbs. Wont he shizz well and truly hit the fan! BTW I visited a workshop in outer Tokyo, and what is left just lying around on the floor, but original S30 twincam 4 valve heads GGGRRR Anyway lets see if pics upload! nup files too big? Anyway we got like 700 photos in 16 days in Japan, some good stuff! I'm a pic posting numpty!
  21. the current rules for Australian production Sports cars - Historics ie Group S are quite restrictive, ( very !) when it comes to the so called mods allowed for our Zeds, however, if you have a Porsche, a MGB, a Alfa, a Austin healey, a MG Midget, a Morgan, a DeTomaso or a Shelby Mustang, you are allowed certain freedoms in rim widths, tyre sizes, carurettors, ignition radiators, brakes etc, because, "apparently" it was able to be proven that these cars were "sold" by the dealerships somwhere in Upper Kumbucta West in Timbuctoo, with siad goodies fitted. When it comes to the current Group S Zed fraternity, and there have been a few, and yes we have tried, it is "No dice, you have to run as stock as the factory made them" even though the dealers sold a new car, and the buyer could then trot next door into the dealers spare parts section, and walk out with everything in the Competition parts catalogue, It sucks bigtime. I am giving up racing my Group Sc 280Z, and turning it into a Standard Late Classsic tarmac rally car, at least there their is sensibility in brake freedoms, the rest of the car is to remain stock. The other side of the coin, is this, My other car is the very well known famour Mingay/Carter Datsun Sports 2000, it was then and is still now the fastes and highest horsepowered ( 245hp at 7500 and 186 ft/lb) Datsun U20 engined produstion Based Sports Car in Australai and the world, it has continous race history since May 14th 1968, and is today as it was back in the late 1960's. It was built with as much parts from the Comp Catalogues as the DRT cars were. CAMS have said, that as the car is genuine, with history, it as a production based sports car, is to race in with the non historic production sports cars - Group S -, - the kicker is prod BASED, mine has wider rims and four piston front brakes, that is all, compared to the Datsun Race Team 2000 sports and curren spec Group S elegible Datsun Sports 2000's, of which there are three that run from time to time. At VHRR Phillip Island Classic meeting 2010, they put me in with some 48 pre 1970 Prod Sports cars, Shelby Mustangs, Corvette Stingrays, Morgan V8's Healey 3000's, MGB with non stock carbs and alloy panels etc, and Alfa's etc, What does muggins here do, He wins all four races, and promptly the oh so very pucka "Group British" are screaming blue bloody murder, at the fact that a genuine Historic sports car, has won all their "Historic"races and taken their bits of tin and plastic and upset their cherished pointscores. Go figure, none of the Group S so called cars are genuine historic with a true history, but oh no, thet protest, and the race for the 'Brroklands Victorian Tourist Trophy, event 42 on the card, won by me, is not awarded the perpetual prize, the trophy and the BLOODY WONDERFULL ROLLAWAY TOOL BOX AND CABINET WITH JACK BRABHAMS PICTURE ALL OVER IT ! I am a glutton for puishment, so i entered again for 2011, and what do the pucka VHRR do, they now stick me in with the later more modern post 1970 prod sports class, ohwell now I have to contend with the 2.7/3.0 Porkers Detomasos, BMW3.0 CSL's, Alfa GTV's and yes the might Zed cars, all in a fairly stockish U20 engined little Datsun Sports 2000
  22. maybe, and just a thought, whenever a newbie signd up to be a forum memebr, the admins let all know that their application may take a whikle to be checked, and the admins ask a few simple Z related questions, inorder to catch the spambots out, no reply to simple questions, no forum access. dunno, maybe it could work!
  23. Dear members, I am in Tokyo right now, and am off to Kameari Engine Works tomorrow, then to Nismo then Zama Storage wharehouse on Wednesdat, then to the Nissan engine museum on Thursday, and being a regular tourist, as well as a bit of skiing at Nagano next week. I have not had anything stolen, and the cops here wouldn't understand me anyway. Just love this place! Found best sushi joint, 150 yen a plate three mins walk from hotel in Shinjuku. Using trains on a SUICA card, cheap, but cant get iPad microsim card for gps navigation, Just have to log in on hotel wifi, amazing place, Wangan expressway is fun! Will be ordering some sample engine parts from above, now, who else wants anything!! PS send no money I will bill you later!!!
  24. Held on Thursday 27th January at No 4 Ross St Newstead, the Shannons Insurance office. I and Aubrey Hughes have invited a few along, but the more the merrier. No pressure to become a paid up member of Z Car Club Qld, but it does have benefits, like access to a CAMS licence - if you want to run at Morgan Park at Warwick, not needed for QR and Lakeside. Also ability to get the requred paperwork for Qld Transport to put your 30 year old car on concessional rego ( approx $200 per year) We hold bi-monthly club meets, discuss what's coming up, and other plans etc. All Welcome, I wont be there on 27th, as I am in Japan visiting a couple of car places ( Nismo, Zama and Kameari) and going down white coverd hills fast!
  25. I'm a ring in with mine, Datsun 2000 fella ( Datsun Sports 2000 1968 - race car x 3) and i do have a 280z- not not a ZX a proper USA spec 280Z with the funny shaped front panels and the indicators in the grill
