  1. When you find one let us know. I'm sure there's a few people after them... Actually, there is a company in the states that are selling a repro one which is close but not 100% correct. It might be good enough. I''ll try to find the link.

What is it that you want to do with this car? $2-3k gets you very little unfortunately. :-\
  3. The Raid 2 (2014) - Do you think the Indonesian film industry can put together an action film so out there that it rivals the best that Hollywood can do? In fact, for pure choreographed action it surpasses what we're seeing out of Hollywood at the moment. It's fast paced, extremely well choreographed and gory but in a good way. 8/10 The first one was good as well but you don't need to watch it first. Both are worth seeing if you're an action fan.
  4. Hey Andrew. To me it sounds like you're a little overwhelmed at the moment and you're not exactly sure of the direction for your car. I understand you wish to get the car on the road and enjoy it ASAP but it sounds like you need to take a step back, do some more research, ask a lot of questions and then with a direction in mind tackle one job at a time. You'll find that tasks such as dropping the diff are a lot easier than they first seem. If you know which way a nut turns you're capable of doing it.
  5. Seems like a genuine hard on to me. He goes on about them for a number of minutes. Good watch. Thanks for sharing.
  6. The title had me going!
  7. I still question my sanity Gav. I must be a rare kind of silly to try and restore that hunk of rust. I was at an electricians place of business over the weekend and he had a couple of Yank classics, one of which was a nice late 50's convertible Corvette. We got to chatting and I was asking him about wiring up new looms so my car came up. Inevitably, after I've shown him photos, he ends up shaking his head wondering what's wrong with me. So here is this car enthusiast that has worked on classic cars throughout his career and he just doesn't get why I would want to spend so much on a Datsun. A colleague of his who was fresh from Greece and couldn't speak English was there and this electrician is translating what I'm saying to him and both of them, make that three of them with their apprentice, are standing there shaking their heads. I felt like I was a wonder of pity on display.
  8. Pleasure. Visited my local electrician today for an unrelated matter and struck up a conversation about rewiring old cars etc. I brought up the cost I was quoted and was told to take it up as it's cheap. Just the labour component would be way more if he had to do it.
  9. His name is Nino Karotta. You can find him under that name on Facebook and YouTube. What are you up to over there? Holiday?
  10. Congrats! Looks like you didn't mess about. Hope to meet you and see the car soon.
  11. Was quoted $700 for complete 240Z set. Send them yours and they copy it. Also comes labelled with instructions. http://www.vinwire.com.au
  12. Good stuff, will come in handy for others. I think Gav will be posting a how to soon as well.
  13. hehe I'm enjoying this season and a large part of that has to do with Vettel's performance. Good times.
  14. Earlier you mentioned that it's not a race car. What is your intended use for the car? If you're only going to use it for the odd cruise then spending money on brake upgrades and suspension upgrades seems like an unnecessary expense to me. Again, that all depends on what you intend to do with the car. Fern is a good name.
  15. I met the owner of that blue one and had the pleasure of checking out the car. It is top notch with no expenses spared. None. The guy even went so far as to buy spare NOS parts but interestingly customised a lot of it at the same time. The customisations might not be to everyone's tastes and I believe that reduces the market when it comes time to sell. Could be part of the reason why it hasn't sold or it could just mean the market is not yet ready to pay that much for just a Datsun. Whatever the case, the values are heading north fast.
  16. That's pretty exciting Jason. Hope to see it one day soon. Sorry for the large photo but it needs to be seen at original size to be appreciated.
  17. Gav, I believe I posted one of his videos a couple of months ago in one of your threads. You were asking about cleaning an engine at home. He has many excellent videos and I've spent far too much time watching them.
  18. No kidding. Good luck with the sale James.
  19. How Transmissions work according to the 40's.
  20. I agree, this might seem like a waste of time but I really worked on the radio to get used to a new bench grinder which I'm using as a polisher and to try out plating parts. Brushing up on my soldering skills was a sobering experience as well. I should flog this radio on fleabay. I've seen some recently asking close to $1k for ones in worse condition.
  21. Agreed Gav. For visible parts I would prefer a consistent finish as per older cad plating.
  22. There won't be too many posts of substance from me for the next 4 or so months. Paul has parked the shell while he finishes other jobs and I'm busy finishing some home renovations and then taking a holiday. Despite working 7 days a week for the past few months I've found the time to strip the shell and source some parts. Other than that I don't have the time nor the place to be working on anything related to the car although I have sourced a lot of parts but I don't really want to spam this thread each time a bolt or a clip arrives. Having said all that, I did find the time to play around with the radio. Check out the whole process here: I've mentioned before that I enjoy tinkering and that's all this was; just winding down for a couple of nights after work. PeterAllen sourced the platers and he did me a big favour running around town on his own time. The result is an interesting one with the streaks and wild colours unlike the original consistent cad plating finish. I believe it's called thin-film interference but I'm no expert in plating. It would have been fine to leave as is but I undid one screw and the rest followed. The inside was in need of a clean up as much as the outside. Funky streaks and colourisation.
  23. Well, after 5 years I've got a new avatar. This one was taken on a dress up cruise I organised for the MX5 club a couple of years ago. Was a blast going to Berry for breakfast with a bunch of weirdos in tow. The locals, and tourists alike, loved us.
  24. Thanks Johnny. I intend on having fun and learning some stuff along the way, including how to deal with the problems that crop up. I would be silly to assume it's all going to be roses; it won't be. It's a ride I've wanted to go on for a number of years now. Every ride has its admission fee; I'm OK with mine.
