  1. Simon dont waste your time doing all that it allready been done and are currently available , they dont just bolt in too theres a fair bit of machining to do as well .contact me if you need to know more, cheers .
  2. put number 6 exhaust cam lobe facing up , adjust too a loose 10 thou then have a look and you will see another lobe facing up if its an inlet adjust too a loose 8 thou this is hot too remember, remember the first valve you adjusted was cylinder 6 exhaust or number 12 valve, now turn the motor over approx 90 degrees and adjust the next two that face up and so on untill you end up with number 6 cylinder exhaust valve facing up you have then adjusted all the valves theres a bit more too it than that but thats the basic start bit complicated going into the rest of it, if you are confident you have done all this to a tee and still have noises you have wear in cam and lifters/ rockers , maybe chain ,guides , let us know how it pans out cheers.
  3. What was that u say didnt quite get that
  4. aaahhhh you didnt say it was a L28, i just assumed it was a 240z with a E88 head as your symptoms are common to this head , so as it turns out it was a manual problem, dang
  5. sludge is something that is found in a engine that has never had any attention ,that could be the sign , old , you have to weigh it up
  6. Turf the head and get another one, preferably with solid valve seats dont waste anymore time friggin around with it , is kappoot, haddit, most likely the rest of the engine may require some attention too.

  10. cause of all of this is pre ignition, bad fuel worn distributor wrong ignition timing curve, and is quite possible the crank shaft has been fractured
  11. i lkie how the coils have their own hanger rail
  12. Hi Whittie, this fault is very common, cause a mass of weight locked in by a tiny little woodruff key, need to single keyway the crank snout, and there is a chance you may not even be able to get it of and if you do the damage to the crank wont enable you to get the new one on, the harmonic ballancer will be ok , the drive pulley that it bolts too will be damage, this happened to me i couldnt get the pulley off i bent a pro lisle ballancer pulley and 6 high tensile cap bolts trying, so i figure it aint coming off in a hurry so i pumped some loc tite in the front of the snout and tightened the bolt with impact gun , and has been the same for years , if you need a new drive pulley give Rob at robco a call 03 97751413 . Daniel.

  14. You have to feel for all the people who purchased a 240Z brand new from the dealer,, who forgot to tell new car buyers that they had to put fuel in the petrol tank when the gauge gets to that little pump handle picture on the dash gauge

  17. i recognise this vehicle for sure, and is still around and competing but has undergone a few changes and maybe hard to distinguish, not sure if its the car or the nut behind the wheel that makes it competitive or both, im sure the owner knows who im talking about but im not letting on unless somebody else lets the cat out of the bag, c,mon whos car is it? and which event was this pic taken on any suggestions??
  18. Hi Lynton, no it should work with the 280 temp sender, chances are if it reads incorrectly the sender maybe malfunctioning or you have the incorrect thermostat, the sender unit grounds itself to the gauge to give a reading, thermostat must be a 82 degrees regardless of the climate you are in , and maintain half way on the temp gauge at all times, if it dosnt look else where for problems, cheers buddy thanks for the rain!!!
  19. you dont need to change the the housing . the engine is required to accomodate all the fittings and outlets and to be functional in the cooling system as per factory so why change it???
  20. Now that makes more sense, is late november 72 early 73 not car 53 , looks like a half decent car anyway.
  21. Why dont you use the mechanical advance with a total of around 28 degrees, and fit a vacuum advance retard unit, so under boost it retards the timing and off boost gives both mechanical and vacuum advance driveability
  22. fuel pump relay is hanging or mounted near the battery and is brown in colour
