  1. Funny thing I read the other day was about the carbon foot print of those Toymota Hybridz. The raw materials for the batteries come from South America (or the like) then are shipped to Malaysia were they make the batteries which are shipped to Japan to be installed into the Toymota and Honda Hybridz. These are then sold to the US in large numbers because the hollwood stars want to be doing the right thing and getting 100MPG out of there hybridz. Then when the batteries are dead (10 year later) they need to be shipped back to Malaysia for the correct recycling etc so with all this travelling for the batteries and batteries materials they produce 3 times the carbon foot print of a 100% petrol powered car. So now that I have done a lot of research on this what is the point - and were are the keys to a 1970's XJ12 that does 6-8 MPG out of the mechanical FI V12.
  2. Yea petrol here in NZ has now hit $2 a litre (for 98)
  3. man where have you guys been - hell zed boys have been doing this for years. And if you want to go lower you can heat up the whole 240z top and the bonding of the rubber bit breaks away from the metal shell. You then remove the rubber bit, cut it down lower still then place it back into the metal shell, then cut the metal shell ie hack saw straight lines down to the new rubber height then fold the metal over to 1. hold the rubber in place etc I would also bond the rubber back in too. This was what racers here in NZ were doing in the 70's and 80's with 260z and 240z. My 260z had these lower 240z top installed since 1991 I thought everybody knew this trick.
  4. I am with Gav - The nismo rebuild works group 4 race car complete with works LY cross flow head and all the correct period parts.... maybe one day I will build one - but without the hens teeth LY cross flow head.
  5. Nice like the ducting setup too - got any more pics of that? Also it looks to me like those calipers are a mono block ie single casing = less flex. So what are the bolts in the casting for? I assume done for some manufacturing process only? ie how the fluid galleries are created between the pistons. I did not know that PBR made a mono block caliper? Do they make some 4 pot version? If yes what size rotor and pistons do the have/support. I have some Porsche Boxster mono blocks that I plan to install, again with a custom hat and adaptor but I will use a DBA rotor for my setup as the Stoptech is too large for my requirement - I think the smallest rotor they sell is 320mmx28mm and I am going to around 300mm x 25mm as the Boxster caliper is designed for a 24-26mm rotor. If I got calipers from the Boxster S then I could go to a 28-32mm rotor. The Boxster calipers are 4 pots both front and rear.
  6. Hmm 6 x motorcycles CV type mikuni's carbs or flat side if you wish.
  7. Now you know what is funny here in NZ I have seen a number of race car use the Nissan/Sumitomo 300zx rears on the rear of escorts etc and they machine off the words Nissan so you can do the same to the porsche units. I know the ones that I have (monoblock) are a sticker type setup so I will be having that removed and I will put Datsun or Nissan on it  I was going to use those same porsche brakes but they are very heavy and over kill for my application so I have gone with the Boxster setup which only takes a 24mm rotor standard. The Boxster S take a 28mm rotor. However I have seen guys use the Boxster calipers on 26mm rotors and the Boxster S on a 30mm rotor. I will know more once I get them in my hands but the other reason I when for this setup is that the early porsches also have a 3.5" ear mounting spacing on the fronts and there are a number of places that make adaptor kits for mounting these boxster calipers on earlier porsches. Does anyone know if the later toy calipers are still 3.5" mounting as I see the later toy 4x4 have a 28mm thick rotor.
  8. Usually the porsche on the brembo calipers is an transfer so strip off and repaint the caliper then just add Nissan. I have some Porsche Boxster calipers (mono block radial mount) that I am going to fit to my zed when I arrange to get them shipped to NZ from the US. The toy's are the best bold on solution for good performance - there are better options for performance ie larger rotors but then an adaptor is required then engineering certs etc with the toys and rotor that bolts on the back like the factory then most places would not know it is not factory. Have a look at the Toys with the new BMW Mini rotor and 260z front hubs = bore the centre of the rotor and redrill for 4 x 103mm that is used to mount the stock rotor on the 260z hub. The BMW rotor spec is 276mm x 22 with a 44mm total hat with a 64mm centre bore and 4 x 100mm PDC. The stock 260z rotor is 271.5mm by 12.5mm with a 43.5mm total hat with a 81mm centre bore and 4x 103mm PDC for the mounting at the rear of the 260z hub. This is what I would do for a good road upgrade
  9. Well done - my now old 240z made 250hp at the hubs with triple OER 47 mill carbs but other than that very sim to your engine.
  10. I believe all S30 were made in just one plant in Japan. This is also the cause of the production figure issue we have with the S30 range - you see I believe at this plant there were issues over back pay during the 70's and the total number of cars produced by the plant were lost or altered by management/accountants to lower the payout to the workers. The US guys have good numbers as Nissan USA keep good records/numbers for the imported cars (I assume again this was a local management thing so they could see how well they were doing with the import/sales figures). However in our part of the world if Nissan/Datsun did keep any figures they were not kept after migrating to the computer based systems after the S30 range was well and truly sold a number of years back (ie a decade or more)
  11. also these will not be side draught carbs if they are IDF as the weber IDF is a down draught so are they down draught IDF's or side draught DCO/DCOE? Given the 44 size I would assume IDF as weber never made a 44 DCO/DCOE (40's, 42's, 45's, 48's, 50's but no 44's that I am aware of)
  12. Looks like a copy will be heading to NZ too
  13. I have a 77 260z 2 seater very close in chassis number to the one above + 20 ish and my is in NZ and like OZ I know of only few others of the same vintage. However I think the build date of my 77 is 76 - not sure as there aren't too many facts left these days after the employee dispute Nissan had in the 70's/80's lots of the real facts were lost by management so they would not have to back pay as much (well that is a story I was told once - how true that is I am not sure) Also don't believe every thing on Carl's site - zhome. I have issues with his facts in the past ie when I owned HS30-00016 he told me it can't be true as they had HLS30-00016 in the US and Nissan only made one set of number - how wrong was he, this was back in the day when the internet was only just beginning. Then there was the time in another forum he tried to tell people that the L24 was an L16 first (as in the US the L16 was sold in the mid/late 60's) with 2 extra cylinders so the L4 was designed first must have been because that is how they were sold in the US....wrong again the L6 was in production long before the L4, however much you try and tell him he will not listen - never mind I take what is on his site with a pinch of salt.
  14. What version of the hanyes manual? There is one that has errors on the torque settings if I recall.
  15. The price of Zed is going up in NZ so it should start to happen for your guys in OZ soon, supply and demand, too much demand too little supply and I am sure that is starting to happen in OZ too with more rust = too costly to repair for some or just too far gone etc = those that are left are in better condition = more $$
  16. Well I am here from NZ on business but I have a ticket for a corporate box on the Saturday
  17. They have been available in Oz for many many years - if you recall Steve's old car aka RB30-ZED the red 240z with the RB30DE it had panasports on it back in 2002. See this post he put on classiczcars back in 2003 http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showpost.php?p=33378&postcount=12 The great news is the weight saving I can't believe performance wheels 1. Call themselves performance wheels when most of there wheels are so heavy ie non performance. 2. Call the rims superlites when they are clearly superheavies.
  18. ok so I thought I better check my centre to ensure I do have what I believed I have purchased. turns out one of the 3.9 is in fact a 3.7 so I only have 1 3.9 which I want to keep so I thought I had 3.9 x 2 and 4.11 x2 but I have 3.7, 3.9 and 4.11x2 so that is no good to any of you guys sorry about that. Just as well as the diff came free with the z31 half shafts I was after. I will still see if I can find another 3.9 before I head to Melbourne as I might be able to swap a 4.11 for a 3.9 locally.
  19. yes but I want to keep on for my self - unless I can find another before then This will give me 3.9, 4.11 and a swap for a 3.9 to 4.3/4.4 + 3.7 and 3.5 are easy to find here too.
  20. hmm I might be coming to Melbourne around GP weekend so what will you be doing with the 4.3? I would like a 4.4/4.3 ish to go with the collection crown and pinion for crown and pinion
  21. Not much help as I am in NZ but I have 2 and 2 4.11 all out of early skylines and laurels etc but I guess this is why you are having trouble finding them as these cars are like hen teeth in Oz. Shipping will kill any deal
  22. I guess the person might have owned both cars HS30-00204 and this RS30 then did the rebirth of HS30 as the body was too rusty (common with the earlier bodies - hence why I sold HS30-00016 as at the time I did not have the $$ for the full body restore that it required). They might have done this as HS30 sell for more and thinking that most can't tell them apart they would get more $$ when it was time to sell. Who knows if the cops are happy and you are happy - move on and get the car back on the road and enjoy.
  23. I agree my RS30 - is 15000'ish (but lower than yours at 15108 and higher than Zedman240z at 15036) and it is a late 76 build sold 77 and imported into NZ in 78 and it has all the later 260z stuff, taller strut towers, larger struts, later door latching, different inner guards, taller rear parcel shelf, different/taller petrol tank, R200 standard, different radiator support panel and radiator, the list goes on.
  24. Looks like a reseller of products that Gabriel makes - see http://technotoytuning.com/ I have purchased stuff from him in the past, good to deal with and excellent custom service. He is also building/selling other products for zeds that is not listed on the site. ie see this thread on hybridz.org for his new Z32/S15 type conversion for the rear of a 240z/260z http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=122079 So I would go to the source as Gabriel does all this suspension work full time not like some of the zed shops that only make products/work on the web sales after their normal job is complete for the day.
  25. The 2+2 is 100% wider that is forsure as is the slam panel, rear bumper all to make room for the +2 part of the car the whole ass is wider about 1" over all.
