  1. No that bonnet release is correct.
  2. I hope they get it, just makes my 71 worth more.
  3. HS30 00501 and up... that's when the rear vents in the hatch were removed. If we're going to be picky.. Rear bumper overriders are mounted upside down. Seats have been re-trimmed (missing the buttons/vent holes) Hubcaps are later "Z" style, but on this car should be "D" style. Fuel pump is aftermarket. Brake/fuel reservoir caps are aftermarket (plastic) replacements. Fan likely would have been metal. Gearknob is correct but missing insert. Looks like 3 screw SU's, should be 4. Door panels look like retrims (not OEM - too puffy). Missing bonnet badge (Datsun) Front fenders are "260z" with the indicator in them. (240z's didn't have them in Australia). I can't tell from the photos, but it should have a 71A gearbox. The ad says L24, but doesn't state the number or if it's a matching no's engine. My guess is it may have had an engine swap at some point requiring the mod plate? But it could easily also be brakes or some other modification that has since been reversed? It's certainly in better shape than HS30 00892 was... (in Wollongong a few years back now) https://photos.app.goo.gl/tHAe9zCvJsrxig4x9 HS30 00890 is in a sad state. https://photos.app.goo.gl/WDMY4dZY0rBx3tHF2 HS30 00898 is in NZ and undergoing restoration work. https://photos.app.goo.gl/XphQAWmpWtrAEkjj8 For me it's the closest car I've seen to HS30 00675 which was advertised a couple of years back through the throttle shop at a similar price. Then went to the UK. https://goo.gl/photos/BqoS3k2eDZZaUWqt7 I personally think #675 was a better car, although it had the wrong radio (correct faceplate).
  4. #893 has appeared on eBay.

  7. All S30Z bumpers in Australia are the same (front), the only difference is the 2+2 (wider) on the rear. Unlike North American market cars we didn't have regulation that stipulated big bumpers and so there was no changes to our bumpers over the years. There is however sound mounting point difference between 260z/240z rear bumpers (brackets), but I'm pretty sure they can be swapped out.

  11. Good to know, 4.4 ratio would be nice for acceleration!
  12. Do you need to run an adaptor flange (Stub/Stub Axels? Not sure what they are called on diffs) for the half shafts to bolt into an S30Z?
  13. Photos I was sent, suggested serious work required. But at $2k who can complain?

  19. Will this be used in a sequel to Ferris Bueller's day off? PS: Well done on a lengthy build and perseverance. Will have to drop by and visit someday to see it in person.
  20. Sorry I forgot to think like a Politician. :). You're absolutely correct. After a few years we could have an inquiry into what went wrong, nobody will be punished. Just a few harsh words thrown in their direction. The head of the regulator over seeing it all will resign and be offered a new job in the private sector of the same industry they once regulated.
  21. Asbestos issues can be dealt with, but you need to have the car certified by a recognised company before shipping. Should all go smoothly then, just a case of more money from your pocket into hands of third parties. In my opinion it's dumb, we could create jobs with this policy, by impounding cars upon import. Having local workers inspect and remove asbestos items (as required) etc.. they could stitch up the whole racquet / easy money for Government etc..
  22. Thanks mate, I'm doing this for the challenge, only way to get better is practice. I was originally not going to use the reproduction lower valance section I had bought as the pressings are a little different to OEM, but I realise it is quite hard to pick for most. Example. https://jalopnik.com/what-a-lifelong-z-mechanic-thinks-of-nissan-today-1830083808 The orange car here is using the same lower half. I will try grinding the welds a bit flatter and then using a light skim of filler over the top if required or high fill primer (if I can get away with it). I think I'll bite the bullet and finally buy a decent air compressor and oxy/acetylene bottles / set up to practice more at home. I've been relying on Tafe and their tools until now. So only get a few hours a week to work on this stuff.
  23. Beautiful 260z in the US sold for $17,000 USD. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1974-datsun-260z-16/ Probably 1 of the better deals in the last few years on BAT.
  24. That engine stand is a joke.. an Rb26 shouldn't weigh 500kg. But perhaps it's made for V engines with all the weight closer to the post. Not a straight 6? The stand I bought, which you saw was a $50 Gumtree job. Holds the L28 just fine. Ha.
  25. All our tool collections start somewhere. I plan to use this year's bonus to add to mine.
