  1. By the way mate, I vote for lime and if not, I reckon the factory yellow colour would be awesome - that way you don't copy Mick and you go with a colour I really don't see often on early Z's. 919 yellow. http://zhome.com/History/ZColorGallary/index.html
  2. Take it you have seen these? http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/datsun-260z-1976-13424373 http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/datsun-260z-1976-14185890 http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/datsun-260z-1975-14197339
  3. Wow Lurch, you're getting really good at rust repair. Attention to detail is amazing mate.
  4. Like Dimitri said I'm amazed at how quick you work mate. What do you do for work anyway? Do you work on cars for a living or something else? Every time I see a thread of yours I know it's going to turn out looking awesome. The area under the battery looks like it's seen happier times. I guess you're gonna be a rust repair expert after this. I have a question though when you remove rails etc.. How do you know your welding the car back together and keeping the chassis and everything true? Can this be adjusted later with a chassis jig of some sort?
  5. Ladies and gentlemen I think we might have a new winner. If this doesn't scream identify crisis, nothing does.
  6. It does look pretty terminal but I've seen worse restored. At least it's pretty original which is a good start.
  7. I wouldn't go for either car mate. That yellow 1 had a lot of rust and used to be a bronze colour amongst others. It was filled with bog before it was painted yellow. I don't know who painted it and what was done prior to that paint job but I do know some of its history before that. Poor guy who used to own it got ripped of by a mechanic both he and I trusted. Invested a lot of money for a paint job and never saw the fruition of the labour. For a 77 though I remember the body being in poor condition. If you look at it take a fridge magnet if it doesn't stay on the bodywork then its probably bogged up. Don't rush buying a Z mate there are many lemons out there. Keep in mind how old they are.
  8. I should add that on a Z I prefer smaller diameter wheels with more tyre showing but a good deep dish. I still don't know if I can bring myself to hack up the guards for flares though.
  9. I favor performance over looks but I can't help but want to do this to my FD. Realistically I'll probably go a little more subtle though... The SSR's Professors / Work Meisters are probably not the lightest wheels out there but I'm a sucker for deep dish..
  10. They all drive very much the same, the 260z 2+2 feels a bit more stable due to larger wheel base. I like them all and more and more I appreciate good 2+2's because they have always been the second class citizen in the Z world and they are still a fantastic car. I tend to find roofline is not such a big deal on darker coloured cars and you get loads of boot space if you fold down the midget seats. You really need to drive quite a few, since they are going to be in very different states or condition and driving a few will give you a good idea of cars that have been well kept. 1 thing you should note, once you own 1 it's very hard to ever sell it. I've had mine 12+ years and can't bring myself to ever part with it. Just too much fun and is a very special experience when your out on the road. Hard to explain but iconic cars are just like that.

  13. Sounds like a great idea, I wonder how many other vintage stickers / logos / icons we could reproduce?
  14. Yeah really cool. I only provide suggestions based on what I'd do but this is obviously your project. Bonnet pins roll cage and chrome trim headlight covers for me would set it off as an old race car. If I had Photoshop I would show you but don't have it right now.
  15. I'm not quite there with the old stripes down it. I reakon a black faded hood with sponsors on it. Also I would go for bullet mirrors .
  16. Good effort on sewing mate. At least your giving it a shot. I wouldn't mind learning to sew for interior mods but also for doing custom clothing . Perhaps Lurch would feel better if there was a bottle of open beer in that second pic
  17. I've seen interior trim design differences and the gauge face typography looks different also.
  18. Great to see a Gnose Zed that looks like a proper Gnose. I think some people don't like the Gnose because it really is something that has to be done correctly. I've seen some shocking fibreglass jobs over the years and you really do need the covers with chrome trim. For me a Gnose Z looks as good as any 60s Ferrari and I'll bet Joe Average on the street wouldn't bat an eye lid if you told him it was 1 too. Really does look much better in person as photos just don't capture the design right. Looking forward to the pics to follow.
  19. Nice 1 Peter I very nearly bought an r31 skyline but decided on a fuel efficient ae92 corolla sx instead when I was a student. It's amazing what routine e service work can do to an old car. I was just thinking today about the fact that the newest car I've ever owned is a 95 rx7 and even that's getting on in age now. I can't see myself ever buying a new car just too much value lost and older cars you can still turn spanners on. Only CON is safety features missing.
  20. Me Riley needs more fading though maybe an off colour panel. Do like the vintage signage where do you get them from? Maybe paint front spoiler black with destressed look and then nice set of wheels and lower it .
  21. From memory its easier to install motor with radiator removed. Will also help prevent accidental damage.
  22. Johnny you .make it look like so much fun. I really wish I had a 1/4 of your talent. Fantastic to see the original colour going on and those bingo sports photos make me wanna go that colour on my own Z. Alan I really do have to come visit you in London and see your 432 replica it looks superb.
  23. For the uninformed what's a patina paint job look like?
  24. Welcome to the fold mate. Hopefully you'll be in an early Z soon.
  25. Can't tell which is was and didn't want to nosey around it too much but since it was a rare bird thought I'd share. Can't be many of these around anymore.
