  1. I actually agree and was going to reply to the thread but decided to let things take their course. Glad all appears to be sorted now though.
  2. Oh you wanted a suggestion.... Well it's not summer in Australia right now (not that I get 1 in Ireland) but I always loved the coast, heading down to Rosebud / Rye / Portsea go to the local pubs, get on a bus that does a pub crawl between them and leave the car parked at the hotel / motel / holiday rental. Oh how I miss home at times.
  3. Go Bananas mate, soon you'll be 30 with a girlfriend or wife telling you off for getting too drunk and making an ass of yourself. Enjoy your freedom now and don't over think things haha. Seriously if you want a quiet 1 with some mates there's nothing wrong with that, but don't be afraid to act your age either.
  4. Man right around the corner from my folks place. I wonder who's garden it's been sleeping in for the last few years. Could be a good deal provided tin worm hasn't taken hold.
  5. It's a shame you can't do the standard headlight covers, I really want a set with the chrome trim but apparently the factory ones are not great quality. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/thread4957.html If you could make a set that mount better than the OEM ones and have a nice high quality chrome trim I think you would do well, but then again lots of people often express interest but don't follow through. http://www.prestomart.com/catalog.php/azcarbum/pd1845473
  6. Sorry David, been over 10 years since I owned a 2+2 now. I can't recall what all the differences are, but I remember differences in the rear struts. Honestly, you may need to just pass this set on again on eBay or to a 2 seater owner and buy another set. I know it sucks, but sometimes you gotta take a small hit on stuff like this, live, learn and move on. I recently sold on an alarm I was going to install for the same reason mate.
  7. LOL what a chancer. I certainly hope he doesn't need the money from the sale of those calipers to feed his children. Car is looking really good mate.
  8. I just want to say your car looks absolutely drop dead gorgeous. A front air damn may be a suitable alternative if you are adverse to cutting the front valance for wheel clearance (I know I would be).
  9. I think the 2+2 are different to the 2 seater ones from memory. So perhaps you have 2 seater ones instead of 2+2 ones?
  10. But what is the biggest advantage of the cross flow head over the regular L-series say P90 head? They are both single cam heads, just 1 has cross flow. I would think that with the R&D that Peter Mac has done with the L-series you would be better off investing that money in a regular P90?
  11. You know it's a spammer when they reply to a Birthday thread from a couple of months ago.
  12. Nice work mate, keep at it bit by bit, that's how I'm fixing my current car up. Little by little you'll get there, at times I find it hard to get motivated (mostly before you start) but once I get into it I'll go at it all night. Once you get the roof done and the primer down on it I reakon you'll feel a lot more motivated to get her done. Nice work on the welding too mate, and good on you for giving it a shot.
  13. What do you use to get that texture under the battery box?
  14. Evan congratulations, it's good to see you're getting the car on the road again. How much work is to be done? I reakon if you pull the finger out you can get it ready . Perhaps enlist some help from members here to get things done? Don't try and get it perfect, just presentable and neat. Just imagine hanging the tins out the back and driving into the sunset with your wife to be!
  15. Yeah that's exactly why I'm looking to keep my car RX-7. I at least know what history it has (now that's it's had a slight accident) and will know and control exactly how it gets repaired. It's also why I like cars to have original paint because you never know what's hiding under layers of paint jobs. It's very sad when people spend so much money on a restored car and have their heart broken when they find out how it was done.
  16. Bits and pieces I need, I know I'm not in Melbourne but maybe I can organise something if it's not too much hassle? [*]Undertray for 240z (goes under radiator) [*]240z drivers door mirror [*]Diamond pattern trim for strut towers and transmission tunnel [*]Door cards for 240z [*]240z hitachi carb throttle linkage set up - mine was modified and I can't tell how, so a complete set up would be useful [*]Datsun front wing badges [*]240z retractable rear antenna This is what I can think of from memory...anyway. You may / may not have these bits.
  17. I think to solve the Z-car fume problem properly someone needs to do wind tunnel analysis. Which can be done on the cheap using the following guides: http://autospeed.com/cms/title_Aero-Testing-Part-1/A_108656/article.html http://autospeed.com/cms/title_Aero-Testing-Part-2/A_108674/article.html http://autospeed.com/cms/title_Aero-Testing-Part-3/A_108675/article.html http://autospeed.com/cms/title_Aero-Testing-Part-4/A_108676/article.html http://autospeed.com/cms/title_Aero-Testing-Part-5/A_108677/article.html
  18. Don't think I would look at a vintage car without 1 now. So you've used it and find it accurate? Is there any scenario where it doesn't work so well?
  19. The early 240z 70-72 had a clear lens, but 73 240z's had this split design and all later 260z's should have had it also. So you should be able to still get them. To be honest if you're going to spend all the time and effort getting some I'd buy brand new, most second hand ones are in pretty poor condition by now.
  20. Listen to you complaining like you're an old man . I did a short welding course at University (which also had a TAFE area) after my normal computer science course. It was at Swinburne in Hawthorn but I'm sure there are similar universities and set up's in QLD. You can rent a good quality welder, if you're willing to give it a go yourself.
  21. I like your username, it's appropriate for early Z's so be warned if you don't like rust holes you're sure to find rust in a early Z somewhere hidden. I'd say be prepared for the worst and that way you won't be disappointed. Unless you find a fully documented restored car. Let the RUSToration begin.
  22. Interested in photos of this original orange 240z. Sounds very original.
  23. I tend to agree with Mr Tennis, the only real example of such a car was the Mazda MX-5 which sold millions. They stuck with a good concept but as the model progressed it got fatter and heavier than the MK1 version which is 1 of the most popular still. Nissan dropped the ball with the 350z and 370z, I've not driven either but the styling of the 350z really doesn't float my boat, not in the way the 240z does. The 240z is timeless, great design always will be like the old Mustang and old Camaro and Vette's. Aston Martin have managed to produce a stylish coupe, it's possible even with new modern safety concerns etc.. I know I'm biased by the FD RX-7 is another good example of modern design done right. In Australia all these imported cars are over priced due to government taxation, not really the manufacturers fault. The 350z on launch could be had for 25-30K USD. RE: Finding a 260z in good shape for 15K perhaps the problem is compounded by 2 things. 1. Many poorly restored examples. 2. Good example don't exist either because owners won't sell them or because market values haven't motivated anyone to properly restore them? I would happily pay the right money for a properly restored example. People can bitch and moan about values but they are 40 years old now.
  24. Yeah even great examples can be hiding this kind of thing beneath the skin. I'm hoping my car is not hiding too much of this stuff when I finally strip it down for a proper resto of body work. Great work Mark, looks like another 1 saved and you move quickly! I like your motivation. At this rate you'll be doing all the work on our Zeds .
  25. Wouldn't you have to be careful that there is no fuel vapor in there ready to explode from sparks of a grinder?
