  2. I got all nostalgic reading your story, reminds me of how excited I was to get my first 240z and my step dad drove it home with me in the passenger seat. Even though it was rough and run down there was something so exciting about being in a 240z, it was unlike all the other rubbish cars I had to learn in. A friend of mine has videos of when I first got my 240z, it's kind of embarrassing to watch now since I was so young with gelled up hair (kind of like the sherminator in American pie lol..) but I'm glad I have that footage. Looks like a good honest example, what's funny is that I think as you get older you become less likely to want to take a risk like a long road trip in a 40 year old banger for example, but it sounds like you guys are having loads of fun and seeing those pics of the highway and all the towns in Australia really makes me feel home sick. Thanks for sharing and do try and keep her relatively original. I really like the fact it still had the hubcaps, not sure about the ghetto exhaust set up though...
  3. The old J-tin is coming back in vogue as the old quirky style is now being appreciated and the nostalgic shape is something many have fond memories of. I've always liked the old Japanese cars, thought they were cool looking and for the record my mum and aunts used to drive Coronas in white, very reliable but rusted like anything. Everything goes in circles, values hit rock bottom and good examples dry up, then rarity drives up value. Put a new set of wheels on it, lower it and leave the old school paint. Would make for a cool ride I think.
  4. I think L26 block code is P30
  5. The engine is the same overall, it's just an L28 is bored and stroked. However since the S30 stamped body came with an L28 from factory in the United States and was called a 280z. I don't think an L-series engine swap should require an engineers certificate. In my opinion (remember this is just an opinion), it's no different than changing a camshaft over for a different cam profile. It's the same overall design and dimensions, it mounts in stock position. There is no reason why your L24 could't be bored and stroked to 2.8 ltr internally making it the same as an L28 and nobody would even know. I would say you would be very unlucky to be picked on for this issue if pulled over. But take the risk as you see fit.
  6. Yeah I wish it was a 5 speed knob.
  7. Hi Everyone, Below is an email I received recently, thought it might be of interest. ********************************************************* My name is Lou Zaffiro, Director of Accident Repair Centre McKinnon and for the past 6 years I have organised Car show events for Fathers Day. Our car show is a display of American Classic Muscle cars, Hot Rods and Motorbikes. Our show isn't only about vehicles, we have many entertainment for all ages such as give-away prizes, live band performance, show bags, food and soft drinks, and children's entertainment. Last year we had approximately 300 cars that attended! Over the past 6 years, our car show has raised money for the charities organisations such as the Royal Children's Hospital and Parkinson's Foundation. This year we will be donating our funds to the Reach Foundation, Jim Stynes. We had Channel 31 that recorded the event, Newspaper Editors from the Local Communities- Herald Sun and Photographers that took place on the day of the event. This year for the 2012 Car show we would love to have your car club be part of our fundraising event. We welcome you and your members to attend. Our event will be held at 10.am-3pm on the 9th September at 15 Ardena Crt East Bentleigh. Any regards, please do contact me. My contact details are below. 8. This 1 looks closest to the original 240z radio. http://www.classiccarstereo.co.uk/classic-car-audio/retrosound-rc-900c-am-fm-radio-with-aux-inputs.html http://www.zpartswarehouse.com/images/AM%20Radio%20240Z.jpg
  9. Not a surprise at all, there are practically none left anymore. They were all scrapped in the 80's and 90's.
  10. I guess there is an important lesson here for all of us. We shouldn't discount what something is worth until the market has had time to validate our theories to us . Is the car remaining in the country or going far away to another land, perhaps the middle east?
  11. Coming along very nicely mate, going to look real good when all those panels go on.
  12. As far as I know the plate should be there no matter how early they are. Now hurry up and finish that RB26 Z
  13. I'm very surprised also I've had good experiences with them myself. I would also file a complaint if he told you the car is worth 2k. Bit of an insult to the Shannon's name if you ask me.
  14. Just went through similar with my FD RX-7 in Ireland, they wanted to offer 3,900 euro for it and said RX-8's are only selling for X amount of dollars. I don't know how he can even compare Marquee's like that? In the end I managed to get $5,000 euro but I had to wrestle with their evaluation firm. Photos of the car before accident damage helped a lot and I bombarded them with other similar examples on the market priced higher (and often not in as good condition). They will attempt to pay you nothing, stick to your guns and get a second quote!
  15. He might suffer from mechaphilia - seriously a word of warning this documentary is weird, very weird....
  16. Love your rear wing solution, look ma no drill holes!
  17. Yep, she just bought a place for renting out so if you guys are interested drop me an email gavindoolan (at) gmail dot com and will see if we can organise something for you. Not sure how many people it would hold or how many cars, but I recall a double lock up garage in pics (could be wrong!) and a driveway. I'm not sure if it's ready for rent just yet but by the Nationals it should be anyway. Will see what I can do about getting a good price for you guys also.
  18. Hey guys, Probably best to order this on your own. Don't think we'll get a big enough group together for the discount anytime soon.
  19. I don't know mate I mean it looks awesome and is definitely unique but will it get parked under cover or will it be in the elements? It would bother me to have a classic in the hard sun and rain. Also driving a car like this as a daily gets old real quick much better as a weekend toy you know modern cars have come far in terms of comfort and drivability. No air con in summer sucks I'm going to fit vintage air to my Z in future I think. If you think all that stuff won't bother you go for it. I do think it will need some money and love though anything that old will.
  20. What's the asking price out of curiosity? Is the linkage ready to hook up to the stock linkage system in a 240z? I have an almost identical set to these, but may consider selling mine.
  21. Think his username is Kent Hasn't been on here in a while I guess. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,8898.msg84862.html#msg84862
  22. Yep and 30 is the new 20, my birthday was yesterday (12th) - Only as young as you feel Peter. That's what I keep telling myself.
  23. I think it's photoshopped to look like it's moving... certainly doesn't look safe
  24. Buy new vents...same problem on mine. Don't think they are too expensive brand new and probably work out cheaper than trying to fix them I think.
  25. I'm not a fan of trying to emulate it, it has to come from genuine neglect I think. Looks POX on this FD rx-7
