  1. Awesome, sounds like it idles quite high though? Take it for a drive
  2. Prepares for flame war....
  3. Very nice car, very cheap price too! Bargain.
  4. No need already have a set of Triple Mikuni 44's at home. http://www.viczcar.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=1&page=2 Just haven't fitted them and had them for 5-6 years now . Also have that wild camshaft but didn't see the point fitting it without the headwork to go with it. I do want to go shopping for a P90 though - if you know of any knocking about?
  5. I was under the impression that some MQ Patrol L28's had the P90 head on them. Which is the head you want. I didn't realise Triple carbs made such a difference in terms of HP numbers - I mean on a relatively stock motor that is no head work, no major camshaft changes etc...
  6. Robbie - 40K is a lot of money, but it's amazing how quickly it can dry up when doing an Engine swap, new paint, suspension, brakes, bushes, seats, wheels, rubbers, gearbox, diff, cv conversion, fuel pumps, surge tank, fuel rail, fuel regulator, single turbo conversion, turbo, exhaust manifold, exhaust system, wideband sensor + gauge, all other aftermarket gauges a turbo engine needs etc... It all quickly adds up. I'm sure others who have done the swap can probably tell you easier than I, but maybe 40K won't get you where you want to be with it? They often say pick a number and double it *yikes!* Of course it depends on power goals and how much you can do yourself but buying the right tools itself can be expensive etc.. I would actually suggest retraining the L-series if you can, since the S30 is relatively light, even with 250HP in a car like this it's damn fast! Also your goals may change over 5-10 years. I know mine have, I used to want an L28 turbo, but now I'm much more focused on making it handle nicely, stop properly and look good. Going fast is fun, but I have another car for that (RX-7) the old L-series is an absolute pleasure to work on and very little goes wrong with it. So they are incredibly reliable, in fact the only problem I've ever had with the Z in the last (nearly 10 years) is a faulty distributor electronic module. Other than that, an S30 has never left me stranded at the side of the road. That old L-series can take a serious beating...trust me hehe.
  7. OER carbs, supposedly the ducks nuts of triple carbs for the Z. Very high quality parts and generally quite expensive. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-240Z-260Z-280Z-240K-6-cylinder-L-series-OER-ITB-Intake-47mm-/290682132123?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item43ae01569b#ht_500wt_898
  8. Almost fell off my chair - thought they were the chrome trim version at that price. I was gonna cry when I saw sold.
  9. I'm gonna lock this thread think its run its course now and probably not much good is going to come from it if I leave it open.
  10. It's been a while since this post was last updated. I'm wondering how this went in the end and if you had any results to share?

  12. Hey Benny, It's not that I don't think it's a worthy cause, it's just that I'm not convinced this video, the organisation or the method of fundraising is 100% legit. If you really care about something like this I think you need to do as much research into this stuff as possible and not just throw money to an organisation with a clever video and a social networking plan. I think this is part of a bigger social media experiment to be honest with you and someone is making money out of this at the same time. It wouldn't be the first time the web has been used to fool people into believing something is real when it's not. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lonelygirl15 I'm not saying it isn't genuine, I'm just saying it's worth doing more research. As for Lurch's images I don't agree with all of them, a couple are funny like the first and last 2, but the others are making fun of something horrible.
  13. The original belts hook into each other in the middle do they not? And they also keep coming undone if not on tight enough? I think my passenger side belt is still original and it's not very reassuring. Sure it looks cute, but safety first IMO.
  14. When I watched this the other day I was very skeptical, like your image says one does not start a revolution or make a difference simply by liking a status on FB. Ughhh I'm sick of this propaganda that says social networking is what's causing global revolutions. Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, Google+. People have started revolutions before social networking existed. And sitting on your arse behind a computer is not the way to start a revolution anyway... I would like to quote this comment I read not that long ago and resounded well with me... http://www.adbusters.org/magazine/99/cleaning-toxic-areas-our-mental-environment.html#comment-40714 Although the comment was not in relation to Kony, I think it's highly relevant here.
  15. Welcome, I am going to ask on behalf of everyone else. Have you got pictures of your ride?
  16. Yeah I figured, but I guess it highlights that there really is no "cheap" option to do this right. The cheapest way to do it, is wait for someone to sell their turbo set up and buy it off them I guess. PS: I can't recall what Simon's L28ET made, for some reason I'm thinking 240rwkw but I can't be certain. There was a Zoom Magazine article on it some time back that I see pop up on eBay from time to time. He is a member here but hasn't said hi in a long time. Love that Z.
  17. Beat me to it .
  18. Don't worry I thought it was funny - Seriously a budget build will get you something like that. This is very true, I can say from living in Europe that parts for my FD RX-7 are a fraction of the cost over here than what they are back in Australia. Even S30 parts tend to be relatively cheap in the UK. You do pay a premium for performance cars / parts in Australia. The cars I understand is due to import tax to protect local car industry, but car parts I'm not sure about? (Perhaps same thing? To protect manufacturing in Australia). Now you could complain about it, but Australia isn't going through recession like the rest of the Western World, so perhaps they are doing something right? If you want to do a budget turbo build for an S30 - I honestly think the RB20 / RB30 / SR20 turbo is the way to do it. Far cheaper than building an L-series turbo. I think a budget build would involve doing most of the work yourself like Simon Degroot in QLD did... http://web.archive.org/web/20051212020139/http://www.240z.id.au/
  19. It might seem like it's expensive, because to do it right, that's what it costs. As Alan has said doing it properly always costs good money. The old saying buy a Fast Car to begin with holds true. Doing custom work, building up an Engine is expensive. Even if you can do it yourself, parts are expensive. This is also why it's always cheaper to buy a car that's already done. You always save money this way. It doesn't matter what car it is. The problem is of course you might not find something that's done exactly the way you want it. The other option of course is an engine swap...but then you have to go through much of the same thing.
  20. Hmm I have bullet mirrors and was going to mount them, but due to my previous owner mounting horrid 200b mirrors half way down the door. I wasn't sure if I should do it yet due to the fact that there is minor surface rust left under the old mirrors and the new ones won't cover it. Some others have said bullet mirrors are useless for visibility but I tested them and they seemed ok (at least on drivers side). Other than that I think Fender or original 240z mirrors are best. I was also looking at XY Falcon tear drop mirrors (if you don't want fender mounted. I think those are all the best options personally. Modern mirrors look hideous.
  21. Apparently Datsun isn't the old 1.... http://www.barryboys.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=33737
  22. Video of Ash's 240z.... Hard to film and drive

  24. Thanks Scoota - I'm not too concerned about the repair being visible since as nizm0zed mentions most of the damage is on the underside of the part, which won't be visible. It also shouldn't affect it's functionality. Do either of you have good tutorials on working with carbon i.e links? I always thought there was more voodoo to it than resin and mat. However it sounds pretty easy from the description so far. I've sent the seller a question to see if it has the other 2 parts not pictures (that hold the air-filter in) and the intake plastics / rubber hoses connect to. I couldn't see it in the auction photos and I imagine finding them to be a PITA so if they are missing it might be more hassle than it's worth.
  25. Manifold patterns are the same both use square ports.
