  1. Hey Peter, My honest opinion is that your Z flows great as it is and I don't think it really needs that rear wing. To me it just doesn't flow with the lines correctly. I always use my g/f as a sounding board also, I have had ideas like 'lets powder coat the RX-7 wheels orange, against the silver paint'. She wasn't a fan and I think she was right. Since you asked for community input I'm just being honest. But if you like it, it's your ride and only you have to be happy with it. If you want to do something to the rear the little bob-tail (432) spoiler is the best in my opinion, but I also like Z's without any rear wing.
  2. I've thought about doing it with my RX-7 after it was damaged, since I think flat black can look good. However for the reasons mentioned above I think I'd be happier with a proper paint job. Plus what happens around windscreen rubbers and the like? Do you have to remove them to get the wrap to tuck under it? It just seems a bit... tacky unless it's a race car or drift pig. I guess it can also preserve the finish i.e I've seen it done on Ferrari's and what-not and I must say it does look cool, but I kind of feel it's a bit of a fashion right now in automotive circles and in another 5-10 years people will be like 'what were they thinking?'.
  3. This stuff is awesome mate. I really dig this stuff, I have to say though the old Petrol pump looked good a bit rough and rusty, kind of looks a bit plain all new and white. I also liked the Shell sticker that was on it previously, was that not period correct? There is a couple of good shows in the US re: restoration and recycling vintage stuff like this. Although no so many about turning it into furniture. I'll check out your blog, but do you do this for a hobby or is it a source of income for you? I think as a society we should definitely recycle and reuse more often, right now we have this 'throw it away' culture that unfortunately results in much waste.
  4. My mum just bought a place down in P.I and will using it as a holiday rental. So if anyone wants accommodation let me know. I'll be helping with the website soon.
  5. Based on the lack of vents in the hatch. I'd say it's late 71/ 72 or 73.
  6. I've actually been thinking of setting up a service to import hard to find Z parts to Australia from Japan. So maybe I'm going the wrong direction? There are no 432 Z's in Australia that I'm aware of, and I don't know of any that have ever been in Australia. I've known of a couple of Toyota 2000GT's but no special Z's. I don't even think we have a genuine HS30-H in Australia hiding away anywhere... Phil - with regard to your original question it's hard to say if these cars are more valuable in Australia than an Aussie classic like a Falcon GT. I would say no, the Aussie muscle cars are getting silly money really, for cars that were *ahem* not all that great really....I mean I definitely appreciate some of the old Aussie icons and would love to own a few of them, but build quality always put me off and the styling was never quite my cup of tea with a few exceptions of course. There is also the appeal of large displacement engines in many of those cars, compared with the Japanese cars with smaller motors. To be honest I've never understood why the Z's values have struggled when compared with other vintage cars especially some of the British lemons. It may have something to do with sheer volume of them sold? I've seen some good cars sell for good money in Europe / UK, but if I was seriously considering a car. I'd definitely purchase an ex-californian car to Europe - rust free and many tidy original cars still come up often enough on Ebay. Much better than a rotten UK car. How much interest has their been in the Skyline you have on eBay right now? I've seen more and more interest in importing these cars to places outside of Japan in recent years. I'm also curious what the old rotary's are selling or in Japan right now? It's a shame there are not many original R100's, RX-2, RX-3, RX-4 in Australia. In Japan they seem to be a lot more 'period correct' looking and would sell for good money I think..
  7. I definitely know who will be helping build my stroker when time comes. I want to know how much quicker you'll be around the track now
  8. Fantastic car, and story both the owner and car are true survivors. I really feel for the old fella selling it after all these years. He must have lots of great memories with it. I'm glad you are keeping the build more 'original' spec, there was a time you would still see these on the road and although the shape is somewhat odd (the rear fenders really need the GTR chop) they are a fantastic car and look much nicer in person (IMO). Welcome to our little group and please keep us updated as you make progress.

    WTB: P90 head

Well it's a good price for a P90 and I'd be interested, but right now I'm not in a rush to get 1 so I can wait. P90 is the best engine head....period.
  10. Now the real fun begins . We love photos so start a project journal when you get a chance.
  11. I was going to use powdercoating myself for suspension components since I think it's the most durable / cheap option but others may have better suggestions / experience than I. Looks like a rat was living in that Z at some stage..
  12. Just drive it, we want a video!
  13. Paul you could say I'm from the Internet Generation, but take it from me, if you want to get something done. It's often best to pick up the phone and call someone. As useful as the Internet is it can also be a hindrance and distraction and there are sometimes wayyyy too many opinions to know what to believe or who to trust.... This was perhaps 1 of the reasons I introduced the karma system ages back, but that was a bit of a disaster also . Still like this: http://climatecrock.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/wrong.jpg?w=480&h=528
  14. http://video.nationalgeographic.com/video/national-geographic-channel/all-videos/av-11592-11792/ngc-the-car-to-beat/ Pretty nuts...
  15. C'mon spill the beans... I don't have access to the magazine
  16. Don't suppose he shared images of what he was on about?
  17. Anyone have feedback on the rare spares kit? http://www.rarespares.net.au/rarespares/SearchPage.aspx?type=partsfinder&pno=0&brand=NISSAN&productgroup=RUBBER+KITS&model=DATSUN+240Z+260Z&car=34a If you can I would source locally - but obviously if quality is not as good go for imported.
  18. Happy Birthday Grumpy!
  19. Not sure if this 1 was listed yet? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-240z-Sports-1973-2D-Coupe-3-SP-Automatic-2-4L-Twin-Carb-/150811888677
  20. Dude you're totally random. Thanks for sharing I guess - What happened to the mow hawk hair cut though?
  21. Hi guys, I got an email today: Are you guys interested in this? Or need more detail on potential discount?
  22. Oh dear that's my number 1 fear with second hand panels. The bog monster... might be less effort the acquire another?
  23. I just watched this and couldn't agree more. Not sure if you've all seen it or not? But 1 thing I noticed coming back home to Australia recently was the stark difference of road laws compared to living in Europe. It's incredible how many camera's and rules there are around speed limits. I constantly found myself checking the speedometer in my mum's car as I didn't want her to get a fine when I was driving. I must say I couldn't agree more with Mark's assessment of the situation and I'm still bamboozled as to why changes like this haven't been made? As he said, there is also a huge number of dated vehicles on the road. Older cars tend to retain too much value in my opinion and there is not enough frequent checks of road worthiness - at least not that I'm aware of in Victoria. Compulsory 2 year tests would soon see older vehicles values drop very quickly and encourage people to buy newer cars, since running old ones would become quite expensive. Of course there will always be room for classic vehicles, but get those 20 year old Commodores off the roads and out of P-plate driver hands and definitely stop parents teaching kids how to drive. Thoughts?
  24. So you did buy it @Vramjee91? See didn't take long to get snapped up after all . Honestly the auto is not the concern, that's easy enough. It's the body work that will need work, but at least you can see most of the problems here. Not hidden under paint . Would love to see this car go back to Lime Green
  25. What Alan said ^, if I've learned anything about cars in the last 10 or so years. It's buy parts like this from a specialist supply store not some generic eBay supplier. http://arizonazcar.com/coil.html Otherwise you'll spend ages dicking about making something non-specific fit and it usually costs you the same if not more than actually buying the right part in the first place. So any money you think you'll save, never eventuates. Having said that if someone local can supply similar quality product then explore that option.
