  1. Check this video out, the guy is a bit eccentric. I really enjoyed it. http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/news/default.asp?storyId=26802
  2. Hey mate yeah I am a bit of a stickler for original but I'm not a huge fan of the cardboard Nissan used since once water gets into them they warp. However that pic you posted looks as good as OEM to me and more durable. Any idea who in Australia would be good at doing such trim work?
  3. I have been into these cars since I was 16 / 17 now 30 and zeds were always rare and hard to find even back then. I've always felt prices were too cheap for what you get out of these cars. I really noticed how special my 240z was when I was back in Australia in February and the sheer amount of attention the car received when out and about. It really did feel special to be in a Z again. Keeping in mind I've been driving a clean FD3s rx7 around. It just does not draw the same kind of appreciation even people who don't know about cars will appreciate the timeless style of the 240z. If anything the internet has made buying a special car like a classic Z easier since it opens the market to outside local areas but even so in the last 5 or 10 years I've not seen many good examples hit the market. Plenty of cars that need restoration yes but otherwise no. Japanese classics are going up in value as the world realises what a bargain can still be had. Cars that compare to a 240z in my opinion are. 1. Cobra coupe $80000 2. Etype $30000 minimum for 2+2 3. Fastback Mustang $30000 Just to name a few. Anywhere outside the US zeds are rare but even there good examples are going up.
  4. Do you have a rough idea on price yet? I would only be interested if they were a lot cheaper than OEM units new from Nissan.

    280zx turbo efi

Wow lot of work in that engine bay nice.
  7. You could also use a 260z 2 seater shell and retro fit 240z rear lights. That's what Sulio did with his 260z featured here: http://www.viczcar.com/member-rides/sulios-1974-datsun-260z Sulio preferred the 240z rear lights but was too cheap to buy a 240z , nah I actually prefer the 240z rear lights myself just a bit nicer in my opinion the way they stick out a bit and the reverse light is in the cluster itself as opposed to separate.
  8. For $50 it's worth picking up if your going to use it.
  9. Definitely a 240z from the rear lights - they pop out a bit, 260z ones are recessed. Of course it could also be a Fairlady Z in which case it would be neither a 240z or 260z. Great photo - where did you find it? Notice those wheels and the Gnose!
  10. If you're seriously looking to buy a 432 I would definitely send a PM to HS30-H (member here) to see if he can help you verify that the car is the genuine article and that the motor and body match how it left the factory. Apparently ownership of these cars usually change hands very privately for vast sums of money. I don't think they are generally advertised so you may need to 'know' the right person in order to obtain 1.

    Drive day

looks like a great selection of cars, and a great idea! Seems I can see a few 240z's in there also.
  12. That's exactly 1 of the reasons I started the site in the first place. The best thing about a community is you can get feedback from the community on who to go see and who can help with your vehicles issues.
  13. I tend to agree mate, a Zed car only club in my opinion can only do so much. Now if we were to consider an early or classic Datsun club I would think that would be a better proposition. However that opens a whole new can of worms...
  14. Those tail light lenses are in really good condition mate, I bought some spares that are in very rough shape. Those should come up a treat with a good polish and re-chrome the trim around them.
  15. But there is no contact details in first post?
  16. Very cool car, post some pics when you have a moment perhaps?
  17. As mad as it might sound I actually support Mr Lew's view. In the EU you have to pay VRT (same as GST) on anything imported from outside of the EU. Small items like those under 100 euro don't usually get picked up, but larger items that have higher purchase costs do. On the 1 hand it sucks for people with specialist vehicles where there is no local supplier or the locally available parts are not up to the same standard as those in a foreign country, but we have to support local business and prevent Australian dollars moving overseas. What I don't agree with is the tax on 'second hand car parts' I think that's totally wrong and paying import duties on rare parts for old classic vehicles shouldn't be allowed. New parts however should attract the same GST as local goods. My 2 cents.
  18. Might be worth mentioning that these are the earlier seats for say a 70-71 240z. Later cars have the recliner handle down the side of the seat, these don't recline in the same way and require turning that knob on the side of the seat which adjusts the recliner slightly if I'm correct?
  19. Hey guys, I was at a Christmas BBQ for work today so only got to review these posts now, I'm actually in the Southern Hemisphere right now (South Africa) but the 1 thing I want to understand here is what is the main drive or purpose behind creating an 'official club'? What needs are not able to be addressed with the current operation of the forum? Is it the CH plates? Drive Days? Money in the kitty? Or something deeper? I have a lot of views and ideas on many of the things mentioned in this thread but it would certainly take me a long time to convey them all right now. So I think it's best to answer the above question to get a better understanding of the motivation behind forming such a club? There are times that I wish I was back in Australia to really help move things forward with Auszcar but at the same time I figure there is no rush and we have been chugging along fine since 2004.
  20. My opinion is if your tight on money at the moment don't do engine swaps. Instead get the car on the road with an L-series engine, maybe do some cheap mods that can help performance, like some mild port work, a camshaft and electronic ignition with a good tune. Enjoy it and drive it around, save your pennies for the engine you want, do your research and then make a decision after talking with engineers. You will need uprated brakes, suspension etc.. with an engine swap it will all add up quickly. Also a Z standard doesn't have an LSD so you won't be able to easily get all that power to the ground anyway until you fit an LSD and maybe also improve the rear drive shafts. Reality is, it's going to cost you good money to do it right. Hence I'm of the opinion that you should stick with the original motor for now and do your engine swap later. University Students also need beer money .
  21. best story I heard was a BMW dealership trying to tell a guy his power steering needed replacement. The customers reply "why good sir my 30 year old bimmer has no power assisted steering."
  22. Give this man some Cuban Cigars! Since V8's are contraband lol....
  23. Was typing a reply and saw Peter has replied, basically what Peter said above ^.
  24. Very cool, and welcome to the club.
