Wow, great find mate. Aren't you glad you didn't look at those earlier ones you listed in the thread? A good car will always show up if you are patient. I don't know what you paid, but that looks like a very genuine car with some race history to boot. I'm very happy for you and I'm sure you discovered just how addictive these cars are once you drove it, there is nothing like that first experience and you got to drive a well sorted Triple carb L-series on your first drive . That's also 1 of my favorite colours. -

No but it looks extremely original and tidy. I'd say someone didn't want to wait till auction end . -
+1 diff whine is a OEM feature lol... But as mentioned check those areas.

Here is some inspiration for you mate. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abqJ9Hc9l90 Loaded with cheesy guitar riffs, which is very Japanese in itself.

Appreciate it mate but I lost the auction due to my bid being blocked based on my bidding location. Frustrating to say the least but gonna keep an eye out for another 1. Cheers all the same. -
That's the way, getting stuck right into it. My old 240z also had a rear tow bar, 1 of the first things I removed also.
-
Wow bit of a barn find, but good project all the same. Good thing you made it home with no issues. Looking forward to seeing the build take shape. Selfish request, but if you decide to ditch the rear view mirror for something else, let me know? I have been trying to find an original door mirror for a looonnngggg time.

Hi guys, I'm looking to buy part of a front bumper assembly to suit my FD RX-7 only problem is the part is in Fairfield Sydney and I need it delivered to Melbourne (parents place). For now the important thing is to just pick it up when auction ends (hopefully I win) and then at some point get it to Melbourne. Getting it to Melbourne is not urgent. Willing to send some cash to compensate for time involved and buy yourself a beer (or several) in return. -
That's all 'shades' of wrong.

Well Ding Dong that has gotta be a winner Mr C. I can't decide what I hate most: 1. The purple colour - I mean that can be ok on certain cars. 2. The rear wing 3. The rear lights 4. Panterra hatch I actually don't mind the front so much, even the air brushing is ok and kinda cool. The raised hood and gnose combo kinda works.

What you would like your Z to look like?
gav240z replied to Toecutter's topic in General Discussions
@Adam - you know if that were my car that door / fender alignment would drive me bonkers! -
Looks like your g/f is as creative as you mate, must be a sight to see that car rolling along with her in the passenger seat and that bright pink hair!
-
I actually like that blue Z . period correct body kit. Rear wing and rear bumper need to go though.
-
I'm afraid we won't see eye to eye on this 1 Rev. That car is actually in Japan as stated by d3c0y which is why it's such an identify crisis to have. A Japanese car in Japan painted with the American flag. A bit weird for me.

G. on a relatively standard L24 stick with S.U carbs. Even with head work you probably won't max out the flow of the SUs. I would highly recommend the Just SU's video here: http://www.ztherapy.com/ To give you an idea of what you can achieve with just the S.U's. Now if you are looking for triples for the look and sound more so than the performance boost, well that's another story...

That is 1 awesome looking Fairlady, love the seats in it too and the rear view mirror. Very similar to this 1, another of my fav's -
Update And I need some advice. Pretty urgently actually. So I'm looking to get my FD back on the road after it was classified as a CAT C write off. I have been given (what I consider a fair) quote to do the necessary repair work and repaint the car. This quote includes the following: How it sits right now. https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/-nFxOa6g4ANwXO0f5iN_gdMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=directlink The repair work would include the following: 1. Repair damage to front wing / bracket / mud guard area. https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/KK9pL43GiBzu-zbL7yROFdMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=directlink https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/YUT2U03G8fCIRMEbdRAxR9MTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=directlink 2. Repair to dings in roof (possibly paint-less dent removal (see options below)) 3. Engineers report to certify car is repaired to correct standard for returning to road. 4. Re-align all panels to get correct shut lines etc.. (pop up headlights are a prick!) 5. Wheel alignment - car pulls slightly to the left now. Option 1. The price of a blend in paint job is €2000 euro. Option 2. Paint the entire car - since blending silver is a bastard and it looks like I'll need to paint the following anyway a. bonnet b. bumper c. pop up lights d. wings e. passenger door That's nearly the entire car anyway and the paint match may not be spot on.... This would also include taking care of some surface rust that has started around the top of the rear hatch (think where S30's rust at the top of the rear hatch!). Figure it's better to treat it now before it becomes rust holes like S30's have. This is a common problem for FD's also (seen it on many of them). So if I did the blend job it would be only the roof (which is slighly faded) and the rear of the car that doesn't get painted (maybe also drivers door). Car could look mismatched in certain lights, you know the type car parks, servo's at night etc.. Full paint job including all the above, plus removing minor dings, dents, paint chips and scratches would be €3000 euro which includes rear hatch seal (parts) and taking care of rust etc.. Here is my dilemma... I have always planned to import the car back to Australia and I'm thinking of heading back in the next year the FD and I can't take another winter here, look at that rain and snow! https://picasaweb.google.com/107400787026175995661/SnowDublin2013?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCJzL4patxLjUeg&feat=directlink https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/-SpzqsV4JV2J-WdG0P30E9MTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=directlink https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/yIkn1Q7JCKtRdYGwEGge69MTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=directlink I wish to import the car under the personal imports scheme. http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/vehicles/imports/import_options/pis.aspx However I have no idea what the total cost will be? Has anyone here been through the import process and can give me an accurate figure as to what to expect the costs to be? Car will be getting imported either from Ireland or the UK (can always drive it across on a ferry). Here is what I'm thinking: 1. If the cost of vehicle import is ridiculously high and too much hassle I may sell the FD here and just buy another in Australia (or focus on my 240z when I get back) . This means I'll still repair the FD, get it on the road etc.. but I'll do the cheaper repair option (keep the earlier bumper) and sell the later bumper I purchased which was like 800+ euro in itself! 2. If the cost of import means it is still cheaper than buying an FD in Australia and I at least get to have an FD to the spec I like then I will consider going the full paint job, fit the later style bumper and make her look really nice. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d141/Artistic_Surfer/99-SpecRX-7.jpg So what I'm really looking for is advice in 2 areas: a. Would you go full repaint? b. Would you go through the hassle of vehicle import? If yes can you tell me what to expect and costs involved etc..? By the way you can view the full album here: All the work I've done https://picasaweb.google.com/107400787026175995661/Rx7StolenAndBustedUp?authuser=0&feat=directlink How it was before https://picasaweb.google.com/107400787026175995661/MYFDRX7?authuser=0&feat=directlink By the way the panel beater / spray painter comes highly recommended over here, here are some cars he (and his brother own the business together) have painted. 1 of them also owns this FD RX-7. http://www.irishrotary.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=4049&start=15 So I'm hoping it would be a high quality finish.

What Fairlady Z said rings true, I had many friends telling me to give up on the 240z (I was a student at the time) or just store it away and get to it in 10 years time when I'm working full time and have the money for it do lots of work to it then. In many ways they were right... I now have the money to fix it the way I want but even so I still want to do most of the work myself. I'm not in a rush. I'm stubborn I didn't want to listen to them at the time, but if I do have any regrets is that I didn't just chill out a little, spend my money on going out with friends or travelling say somewhere like South America. At the end of the day 20K is a lot of money when you think about it and to spend it just on a car? Well you have to live a little when you're younger and I know a lot of guys spend bucket loads of cash on cars when they are young but almost all of them never see anything close to that money back when it comes time to sell. If I have learnt anything is that travel gives you some good perspective in life. What I'm saying is, it's fine to get carried away with fixing up a classic car, but don't do it at the expense of having fun in other areas of life and be prepared for it to be a long term project! When I see some amazing cars, say on Youtube or featured in magazines often it's taken the owner 10+ years to restore it to that condition. Too many guys pull their car off the road then get carried away with buying the best parts, doing the best modifications and soon the car is off the road for 10+ years and they haven't driven it at all. I would rather have something 'not perfect' and drivable that I can enjoy and gradually fix it up. Nothing worse than having a car in parts in a garage sucking your money away. Be patient, find a good car and just enjoy driving it. You don't need fancy paint jobs, 350+ HP to enjoy a Z(btw I know you haven't said this yet). You can have a very modest build and a slightly rough body and still really enjoy the experience of owning it.

I like the diffuser idea, makes me think the S30Z really is timeless and Nissan could have evolved the design much like the Porsche but they chose a different path. A shame really, I would have loved to see how it could have gone! -
My advice buy 1 that is in good drive able roadworthy condition. It might cost 15k for an honest 2 seater that is not perfect but you can enjoy immediately and fix it up gradually. We all have to start somewhere and a Z is a simple car to learn with. However you might want to consider 1 as a second car and have a small hatch for the daily grind. All the best. PS lurch play nice. I was once like him too.

***Sold****For Sale One Piece G-Nose FG VIC
gav240z replied to Zedman240®'s topic in Parts and Tools for Sale
It's the kind of modification to the bodywork that really has to be done correctly and seen in person to appreciate. You know how some cars just don't look right in photos, but when you see them in 3D/in person you really get a feel for the body lines and angles and can appreciate it properly? The Gnose is really like that and with the right wheels, flares and wing mirrors along with headlight covers. I think it's 1 of the best looking cars. As I have mentioned before I'm sure, it's a very Ferrari like styling queue - it deserves more appreciation. I'm glad a few people are going for it. I'm really thinking about it on my 240z, factory red colour with flares and watanabes and the rear lip spoiler with the straight 6 under the hood, all polished up. Period correct bucket seats and I think you have the perfect looking Z. -
To sunroof or not to sunroof that is the question?
gav240z replied to Fairlady Z's topic in General Discussions
I'm not a fan of them myself, I like the smooth roofline without it. Had 1 in my 260z 2+2 which I did actually like, but in summer it did get hot and with it open would burn your head -

Mate this is awesome to see you setting up your own business. Good on you for giving it a go. -
Hi guys, A quick question for you, I bought something on eBay at a good price because I believe the seller listed the item incorrectly - hence I got a good price for a pair of fog lights to suit my RX-7. Before auction ended I asked if he could post to Melbourne (parents address) and he said it was fine. I won auction and then said to him give me the final price for the item + shipping and I'll PayPal you. I was not in a hurry (which I told him at the time) because I was in South Africa for 4 months. So I wasn't in a rush and he said he was busy so hadn't had a chance to go to post office. Now that I've been back I've tried to contact him several times no joy. He won't return my emails. I've not paid for it yet via PayPal, but I get the feeling he copped on to the fact that they were worth more than the price I bought them for on eBay and has sold them off elsewhere. - I read his eBay history and someone left negative feedback saying he sold car after it was won on eBay because he got a better price elsewhere. Can I report him to eBay? any suggestions on what to do?

Otherwise I think a great combo to do would be Silver 240z with either red interior or butter scotch interior. The butterscotch /silver was never a factory option but I think it's very period and looks great. I think Silver cars really really need a nice interior colour to set them off. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzxcPhQPrew
