  1. Having the original part no's for fasters and washers and all those misc bolts and screws would be extremely handy for someone looking for that OEM finish (like me!) .
  2. Does the diff mount get rid of the infamous diff clunk on Zeds? That Silvermine caliper set up sounds impressive, but where do you get those ford calipers in Australia if you need spares or pads? Like say a rebuild kit? Is there an Aussie car that comes with these calipers and pads? Also do you know if they are alloy calipers or cast iron (as in heavy!)? Oh and from what I gather they work with the standard handbrake cable as fitted to Zeds? So you don't have the issues like you would with the Wilwood calipers? I'm sick of the drums on my yoke, they warp and crack and are a massive pain in the ass. Good upgrade.
  3. Hi Guys, Recently I've been using a Mazda EPC (electronic parts catalogue) to look up part no.s for my FD rx-7 and found it extremely useful when ordering via dealers etc.. I was speaking to someone who directed me toward a similar tool for Nissan. The page is here: (Look at the heading NISSAN E-FAST AND FAST SOFTWARE) http://www.xenons30.com/reference.html Slight disclaimer: I've not installed this myself yet but let me know if you get a chance. Looks like it contains JDM specific parts catalogues also. I know some of you have complained about trying to order Zed parts from a dealer before and had issues when dealing with less knowledgable parts staff . This could help avoid confusion and ordering the wrong parts.
  4. Welcome mate, a 260z is a practical classic. If you get 1 with minimal rust anyhow. Mechanically they are very sturdy and reliable.
  5. I can definitely confirm this, I know that engine went to a guy by the name of Jack Kuzior who I haven't seen or heard from in years now. I recall him talking about the custom head re-drilling and cooling mods due to cylinder #5 (my memory here) getting hot under the collar. The head was N42 casting. This is the car the engine was in last I knew of. http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_108383/article.html
  6. Love the braided hose, will it stay in that shape though? I didn't think it would have the memory to stay in that form? I really like the braided hoses, my old 240z used to have them for the radiator also but they were fraying and looked a state. They were also a lighter colour, but perhaps that's from age and fading? Wonder if there is a proper tool for this sort of thing? Must be.. Like Dimitri I always loved this car too, that bright yellow looks amazing.
  7. Dale I'm looking for a RHD market original door mirror if you have 1? Might help to list the parts you have etc..I love / want original stuff!
  8. If this guy is to be believed you need lots of subscribers to make a living off the Youtube. http://www.salon.com/2013/05/12/jaron_lanier_the_internet_destroyed_the_middle_class/
  9. Happy Birthday mate and thanks for all your hard work as moderator also. I should really thank you more often!
  10. haha, most people's definition of maintenance is oil and filter change, maybe a fuel filter.... That's the problem with cars like this people don't take care of them because they don't know how or they don't take it to a competent workshop. Hence you have problems. I think the key is to buy an enthusiast owned car with documented history. You shouldn't have issues then. They are harder to work on than an S30Z though, no doubt.
  11. Those 240z tail lights were a bargain mate.
  12. Yeah I know of race engines that produced 130rwkw with wild cams - that probably drive like a pig on the street. That's the thing a dyno can't tell you, how drive-able the package is.
  13. As said on the video mate, good result. That's good power to the wheels!
  14. Cooper this is what I would be looking at if I were you. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,12747.0.html 2 owner 260z, body and paint needs a tidy up but at least it looks original.
  15. What the hell is that silicone hoses with jubilee clips? That's a bit ghetto indeed. How much was the guy asking and I'm guessing no RWC? That would never pass surely. It sometimes makes me wonder, what sort of individual has the motivation to go and do something like that, when doing it properly wouldn't have been that much more work? So how come dad doesn't like Datsun's? Or does he just not like the idea of an old banger Datsun or not?
  16. Nice 2 seater ZX. Can't believe this is a 6k 120Y coupe! http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/kabra/cars-vans-utes/1975-datsun-120y-coupe/1017446279#
  17. I like this 1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCdXqOCXtOU The drive off is the best part. This was also awesome.
  18. Love this Ferrari video. I think the reason we all love our S30Z's so much is that they remind of the 60s era Ferrari's at least when I drive my S30Z I feel that way anyway.
  19. Perhaps we could make a sticky post of recommended eBay / yahoo auction sellers for S30Z parts? I hate it when you get flogged for postage personally so we should definitely recommend sellers who go above and beyond. They deserve repeat business.
  20. I've deleted the post, just some free-loader looking to flog stuff. Gets a bit tiring after a while. You wouldn't believe how many club emails I get from people 'wanting stuff'. It's always take take take, but never give.
  21. I love contributing to threads like this because I often struggle with the same thought process and do you know what? It doesn't really help you sleep at night. So first things first. You're not going to sell it, you still love it and it's special to you, the problem is, that you have been using it as a daily hack and you're not able to enjoy the satisfaction that comes with fixing / restoring something and making it better than it was. Instead you've had to watch it deteriorate which has depressed you...fair to say right? Ok so....you don't need to do a full restoration to enjoy this again. In fact it's all how you view things you need to change the mindset. You see a nice new paint job is awesome and I love a clean looking car, however the disadvantage of this is you need to be more careful around it when working on it. Scratches, dings, paint chips. It's enough to put you off attempting anything. So I don't recommend a paint job yet! What I do recommend is tackling 1 area at a time as Linton already suggested. This is what I have been doing with my FD RX-7 restoration. If you look at all the things that need doing pretty soon it just gets depressing. I would start with mechanical work, don't worry about your skill level. This will just serve to hold you back - trust me I should know. Having the car off the road will ive you time to do things at your own pace. It's not fun rushing to get a car back on the road and having to skip / not do things exactly how you would like. Tie rods, ball joints, bushes are all pretty straight forward things to do. Bushes can be a pain, but if you don't have the right tools just take the part to a local workshop and get their help pressing it out etc.. That's what I do, I have limited tools so I work to the best of my ability and anything that requires more than that I get help with. It's not to be viewed as a failure - rather you just can't do everything - unless you have a community of Z car nutters who can help with tools etc.. For example with my FD rx-7 I didn't do the paint work because I didn't have the time, space, tools, expertise or patience. Instead I got all the parts together and pretty much put the car back together for the paint shop. They didn't have to do anything other than paint it. Even the paint shop got windscreen guys in to replace the front and rear windows and seals (so they don't do every job!). Personally interior restoration is 1 of my favourite parts of working on cars. You spend most of your time in the car, so it's good to have everything neat, tidy and clean. Replace all that broken plastic etc... Plus you don't get nearly as dirty as doing the engine work (engine oil = yuk! - I hate the shit). If you want to make the exterior nicer focus on the chrome trim, wheels (these can make a huge difference) and bumpers etc.. As I say paint is your last stop, once you've done all the dirty work and maybe in a few years? To be honest we fix these cars to drive them and enjoy them. So don't go nuts with a full tear down. Just remember nothing will be done overnight and it's a long process this restoration business. Try to enjoy it. Do yourself a favour and buy this book. http://www.amazon.com/How-Restore-Your-Datsun-Z-Car/dp/1931128022 It will give you tips on what to do and how to go about it. Good book. Don't be afraid to give things a go... you'll just regret it later if you sell the car.
  22. What about an RB20? 200ZR style? Or for that matter RB30T. I was looking at prices on carsales.com.au today and agree many are overpriced considering...
  23. What Alan said, couldn't agree more. When it comes to any old performance car it's worth spending a bit more for something like that, than spending less and thinking you'll fix it for cheap.
  24. I was going to say, looks fairly tidy and original. Is that the original steering wheel I spy? Type X look is the way to go. Factory but best looking kit for the 180sx.
