  1. Hi Everyone, I want to start a thread on 260z door trims for 74/75 models as these appear to be different to later style door cards fitted on 76/77 models. This seems to be a massive point of confusion for many owners - including me - although I'm sans 260z at this stage. Let's start with the main difference that have been documented already. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,13542.0.html http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,16266.0.html 1. The lock position. Early style appear to be 15 cm from the rear of door card. 2. Now talking to a supplier in Japan he informs me that there could be other differences depending on market in relation to arm rest position. But this seems to be market dependent. At a guess I'd say that maybe 280z's sold in the US were a little different again to 260z's. So for those of you with 260z 2 seaters (early or late) would you be able to measure the following datum points? a. Door lock position* b. Door handle position. c. Arm rest positions. * The supplier has informed me that the door lock position could probably be moved from 25 cm to 15 cm and you wouldn't be able to notice. So this may be a workaround to our problem with only being able to obtain later door trims. However if the arm rest positions are also different that's not going to go well.... If anyone has the part no's for 260z door trims on a 74 model AU market 260z please let me know? When I get home I'll measure up the set I have and provide photos for reference, I suspect our market only had the 1 arm rest position but certainly can't hurt to double-check.
  2. Not just JDM yo! But AU market also got them, I have also seen Swiss cars with fender mirrors. This topic has been given a good flogging already (by me) http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php?topic=13234.0 http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php?topic=13650.0 http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,14248.0.html I'm not sure if our cars were ever shipped with the bullet style mirrors or if cars here were retrofitted with them as a replacement part no. for the originals? But I have seen some old footage of a 240z in the 70s in an Australian dealer lot wearing the bullet mirrors also. Found the link to the video. (But it's blocked, This video contains content from V8SuperCars, who has blocked it on copyright grounds.). http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,687.msg155342.html#msg155342
  3. It will soon be auszcar.com and viczcar.com will redirect to auszcar.com. It's really been a legacy issue with the web-server config, database set up and software config that meant it was "too much work" to change until now. Hopefully once we're on the new software that will make it a lot easier to do. Just gotta be conscious of mail-configuration and spam etc..lots of little things including search engine optimisation to consider...as a 1 man shop it's quite a bit of work.
  4. I personally would much prefer to know what I'm buying and buy a car that hasn't been painted recently than buy 1 with a fresh lick of paint and wonder how much bog is under it. That's me though.... I get suspect when people sell cars with fresh paint jobs.
  5. More good threads on Lee's. http://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/458598-Edward-Lees-In-Court-Over-260rs-Wind-Back An 'R' grade R32 which had a 20,000 km hair cut. http://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/437339-beware-r33-gtr-for-sale-in-sydney-part-2/ and more here: http://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/413303-beware-r34-gtr-for-sale-in-sydney/page-3 Sad thing is this could all be stopped easily... http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2246786
  6. I don't think we should refer to it as a '260z' since it never was or will be a 260z or 240z. Phil doesn't comprehend that. It is a Fairlady Z (S31) L20 motor retrofitted with early S30z tail lamp lenses etc.. and I'm guessing it would have sold between 200,000 and 300,000 YEN - knowing Phil he probably got it a lot cheaper than that, it has got rust if you watch the other video he put up and that was the area he showed on camera, I'm sure there's more.... That Porsche in the background has been for sale forever and is part of the tax write off I was talking about earlier. He has no intention to actually sell the car, just dangle it out there. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/burwood/cars-vans-utes/1978-porsche-911-sc-blue-5-speed-manual-coupe/1020602132
  7. Not last night, but recently saw this on Netflix. Hot Girls Wanted But since it seemed topical... http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,16318.msg172842.html#msg172842 Not sure I could give it a rating out of 10 because it was more an educational piece and insight into how the industry works. Basically young girls get chewed up and spat out the other side.
  8. Poor fella, he just wants attention like a lot of young fella's and has no other outlet to express himself. I think the problem is the trophies he's got, someone is encouraging him. . Not quite as tragic but this video makes me cringe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1Mceq-wqSY
  9. He deletes my comments .
  10. Haha, fair enough. I have a couple of bonnets already but a NOS bonnet would be far less work to make good. Those dents should pop out easily enough.
  11. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DATSUN-240-260-280-Z-BONNET-/252036852001 Went for $701 I bid on it, but missed out.
  12. I saw a NOS driver side on Yahoo! Auction recently. ~$800.. I can get them in from Japan the problem is the shipping is going to hurt given their size. Much better to find locally if you can. I'd try calling Ash at Moorabbin Auto Spares. He has a few spares and might have some front fenders. Otherwise look for a cheap 2+2 you can break for parts and sell off the rest..
  13. Hi Shaun, Welcome, have you seen this thread? http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,16266.0.html The door trims you linked to look OK but not quite OEM to me. They are missing the 'fake wood grain' that the 260z's had. First thing to do is determine where your lock position sits relative to the end of the door card. Is it 15cm or ~22cm from the rear of the card? This will determine if you need 'early' or 'later' 260z trims. I can get late ones relatively easily, I'm having a hard time finding the earlier ones. I have 2 other people who have indicated interest in a pair. My supplier in Japan is being slow to respond to emails. I suspect getting the correct part no. might help. The problem with 75 model is that I believe there was a mid-year change, and you can't just say 75 model door trims. I did that last time and ended up with the later ones.... :-S.
  14. This only applies to users who have an account and are signed in at the time. But you can see on average signed in users check the site 2-3 times per day. They spend on average 7 mins on the site for each session. If a user has multiple devices, desktop, mobile, tablet and isn't signed in on all devices then that will obviously skew these results, but provided they are signed in on all devices this would be accurate. I haven't done a similar analysis for guest users or those without an account yet.
  15. If anyone can find Tristan Hart on Facebook or Twitter or whatever please feel free to send him a link to this thread. I'm sure the examples in this thread would be useful for the next court hearing... If you can show this isn't an isolated case I'm sure the judge will make sure he brings the law down on him properly. I look forward to walking past Edward Lee's dealership when it's closed.
  16. Another positive article on Mr Lee's today. *Edit found the link. http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/opinion/was-this-car-purchase-a-rip-off-or-a-wind-up/story-fnlrw4is-1227462226858 Rip-off or a wind-up? Japanese Certificate to hold the key in imported car odometer tampering case. A parramatta road used car dealership has been accused of misleading or deceptive conduct over an alleged odometer wind-back of nearly 100,000 km. Tristan Hart claims the imported 1998 model Nissan Stagea RS260 he bought from Edward Lee's Jaapanese Auto Center at Concord with an odometer reading of 62,000 km had actually travelled 155,000 km. Mr Hard paid $20,500 for the car. But he says he sought a second opinion that the estimated true worth is only about $9000. In the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal in Sydney yesterday he applied for compensation for the difference, as well as the cost of replacing the tyres that he said were not roadworthy. Mr Hard told NCAT that the dealership had engaged in misleading or deceptive conduct by selling him a car for significantly more than it was worth. He said his main evidence was the registration certificate issued by Japan's Ministry of Land Infrastructure, transport and tourism showing the Stagea had been driven 154,900km before being shipped to Australia. Edward Lee's dealer Phil Lee told the tribunal he was likely to challenge the veracity of the document by flying to Jpaan to get it checked. "Nobody knows really how authentic it is" Mr Lee said "It could be a forgery or a fake. I want to take it to Japan and get an expert to give me an opinion on it." He asked NCAT sneior member Mark Cohen for a month to be able to do that. He was granted a week. Mr Lee said the document was not enough to "hang a legal case on". Mr Cohen said it was "more than enough". Because the registration certificate had not been serve on the respondent, the matter was adjourned. Mr Cohen gave direction that within seven days Mr Hard provide Mr Lee with the certificate as well as a translation and any other evidence nhe planned to rely on. Mr Lee would then have seven days to file a written challenge. Mr Cohen said that if the document translates "in the way I suspect, I'm not sure you'd be able to oppose the application". Allegations of odometer tampering are a significant problem throughout NSW. I'll be following the developments in this case.
  17. I'm pretty sure UK cars had a more flat looking mirror. A couple of examples here. http://insidelane.co.uk/review-1974-datsun-240z/ http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=1420996 HS30-H (member) would probably be better at confirming UK specification cars. Personally they are not my favorite mirrors on an S30z but I see your car has the rear same rear bumper appendage's going on which might be for licence plate rear lights? It also had the indicators at the front etc.. that match the UK market style. So I'm going to assume you want to keep it UK market correct?
  18. Given how humid Zimbabwe feels I'm surprised it's not rusted out. I'd repaint original even though white is not my favorite colour and I'd remove those rear view mirrors. Replace with the correct mirrors for a UK car or go with bullet style fender mirrors.
  19. I work in front of a computer so I am always glancing at the site through the day. If I go on holiday especially when I was in Europe I'd often go a couple of days without access and I'd jump on and bam all this fresh content. I'd usuay miss good parts and cars for sale as a result. Also the site always has some issue when I'm away. Murphy's law.
  20. Haha I'm glad someone else said it....
  21. The mirrors would have been fender mirror type originally I'd say... The hubcaps and valve cover are an easy enough lick of paint. The radio seems to be missing the red needle on the tuner? For whatever reason it's white? Main radiator hoses should be braided type, various items could be re-yellow chromate plated... I'm sure there is a couple of other minor details missing etc.. But to me the point is the car is very very close to concourse and you'd be silly not to buy based on a few issues like that if you're ultimate goal was 100% totally original.
  22. Isn't that illegal? For most of us it's just another R32 GTR, but in the US of A it's a big deal. .
  23. It is possible buyer offered higher price to secure the car also I suppose.
  24. Interesting it was listed at $38K now it appears to be $45k.... If he's taken a deposit I shudder to think he might be trying to extract more out of other sellers to renege on his deal.
