Since this thread has Work's Rally Cars in Australia featured in it, I thought this link would be useful. http://primotipo.com/tag/datsun-240z/ Caption reads: Edgar Hermanns’ factory Datsun 240Z, the Japanese factory a big supporter of Australian Rallying for a decade or so. Navigator Roger Bonhomme. Here the car is being serviced at the Mt Ginn stage outside Canberra. (Green Machine) Hermann and Brock had fun, the 240Z in front of Peters’ Holden Torana XU-1. Torana like the Capri, a versatile car at home on track or trail.Winner of both the Australian Rally Championship (Bond) and Bathurst 500 (Brock). Mt Ginn, Canberra. (Green Machine) When I first saw the photo I was hoping it was Dunkerton's TKS 33 SA 4080 car and I thought it was photos of the rear of the car, but it's obviously a different car that also competed in Australia.

Updated first page, lots more cars have photos now.

Those gauges..

Seriously boys those avatars trip me up also.

That's great info Alan, does the 'standard model' version have the automatic scanning feature? I can't read the Japanese text to decipher what it says about the radio and it's features.

Yeah that Zhome page is out-dated, as this will become if I don't devise a better method of tracking these cars. Thankfully the new software looks like it has the ability to create custom databases. Which will be incredibly useful.

What you would like your Z to look like?

Yeah I like that photo also, since the 240ZG's never came in that shade it is a bit of a gamble but it would have looked the goods. Maroon will look good also. I've got photos of a Safari Gold 240ZG which I think looks amazeballs. Will dig it out. *Edit from earlier in this thread. -
I don't know if they are, I've seen a couple sell for $500-$600 USD price range though.. Unrestored. I got my last 1 for $250 AU as is.

907 Green looks hot. http://www.themotorhood.com/themotorhood/2015/4/28/rising-sun-classic-1971-datsun-240z -
Interesting all other photos I can find on the net show the other version. Oh well...I suspect another model of Datsun received the same unit/design but perhaps without the antenna switch as standard like the S30z. FYI: It was listed on Yahoo! Auctions as an HLS30 radio. PS: This radio on eBay shows a red light, where as all 3 of mine have a green 1. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-Nissan-240Z-AM-Seek-Scan-Radio-70-71-Stunning-Condition-OEM-260Z-280Z/291536381091

To your point. All you have to do is watch that to see that 'doubling of prices' is totally unsustainable if not followed by increase in wages and rents. The soft landing is best wishes. I think the thread title is appropriate to be honest, it's a 'bubble' in the classic car market also. It's speculation driven, as to where and how it will stop who knows. But I think the Playstation generation will always lust after the Gran Turismo cars and a lot of that stuff is Japanese, not European...So perhaps the steam will get taken out of the market followed by a recovery later on. If you don't have to sell, don't.

That's the plan my man.

As you may have seen already, I'm looking for another antenna switch. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,15821.0.html The 280z sold in the US had an antenna switch which was very similar to our 240z style switch. Reference photo here. http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/118198-found-a-switch-under-center-console-1978-280z/ Good thing is these switches are cheaper...much cheaper. But comparing photos with my 240z ones, it would appear that the side you mount the switch on is offset compared to the 240z version. It may (depending on year) have a down pointing arrow, not just the up arrow. However a bit of sand paper, plastic epoxy filler and black vinyl paint and you could delete it I think...

Just edited your post.. Not sure we can blame Phil for everything dodgy in the used car business. But I will leave this here. http://www.fdrx7.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16236 JOC Later states.

Well if it is indeed true that the same head unit was used in multiple cars and a reproduction faceplate will be available (still waiting on mine), then that could make an original head unit much cheaper for an S30z enthusiast. Of course you still need to find an antenna switch - which is a bit of a challenge and can be expensive. Not sure if any of these even work yet, but at least they will look the part in the Z's. Of course now that everyone knows there will be no cheap head units anymore haha..

Hi Guys, So I finally got an Hitachi Radio home tonight that I sourced recently. When I saw photos of it I thought it was odd the antenna switch was blanked off, I figured it wasn't originally there as standard. But when I got it today I found a few interesting differences between this radio (model code unknown) and the TM-1081ZA units I got off Dimitri. First of all with the faceplate removed... The top image is the 1 I got recently. The bottom 2 are TM-1081ZA confirmed by stickers on the housing. The other difference is the overall size at the back, you can see it's quite a bit smaller. Top view Rear Inspection cover. You can see "Antenna Trimmer" if you look closely. A look inside. Factory textured blanking plate I removed the blanking plate, to show that the antenna switch fits fine. The faceplate would be perfect if not for a minor chip in the left hand bottom corner and the missing knob! All the wiring looks the same, the brackets where it mounts in the car are in the same position, it was just the blanked off antenna switch and the fact that it's a bit smaller that I found odd... Anyone got a clue as to why they are different?

How about this car? http://page9.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/k188908242 Looks like it could be a genuine HS30-H although it's probably a replica...Really hard to tell if it has a Rally Clock in it. (if you zoom I think it does) Mmmm rusty.. If it's a genuine HS30-H it would be worth restoring...

Way to ruin the schadenfreude for me . I agree it shouldn't happen, but I did find it amusing that his Youtube title was "Australian customs and quarantine help small business (go b" the character limit can only leave me to guess he was implying "Go Bankrupt" in which case I don't think Australian Customs will be responsible for that, good ol' Phil kicks plenty of own goals for himself. I love how he plays the victim here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-8o2GgFnBE "There's a few haters out there on the Internet, people are putting graffiti and saying things about me that's not true"..

I agree it's not good, but when it happens to Edward Lee's I have no sympathy. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,15615.0.html It's a long thread (he's a busy boy), so just read this. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,15615.msg172877.html#msg172877

Automotive Panel Craft Introduction
gav240z replied to wayne080866's topic in Automotive Panel Craft
Hi Wayne, Have you had a go at making beaver panels yet? I am looking to import some, but they are in "Canadia" and the transaction will be US dollars + shipping by air so it gets a little expensive. I started a thread looking for interest here: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,16376.0.html Will likely be putting a bulk order in shortly so just thought I'd check before doing so if a local option existed? -
944's are great even in non-turbo form. If I was in the market. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/adelaide-cbd/cars-vans-utes/porsche-944-turbo/1084148689 The motors are pretty solid in the 944, a friend has 1, his clutch slave cylinder needed work, the rear diff mount / gearbox mount need replacing but other than that it's solid as a rock.

Guy selling those seats has HS30 00165 and is turning it into a Ferrari GTO replica. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,16339.msg173104.html#msg173104 Recognise the wheels he's selling also? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/331625765918

For those not familiar with the lingo UAT = User Acceptance Testing. Yes, so rather than just dump the new site on everyone and expect everything to go smoothly, I'll upload it to a test domain ask people to have a play around with it and give me their feedback. If everything works fine. Great, but I suspect there will be some minor tweaks needed before everything is happy with it. I've also got to add some scripts to the template and maybe change a couple of things with regard to the navigation buttons etc.. Also interested to see how mobile/tablet users react to the new layout for mobile.
