  1. Shaun is a member here. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/user/100128-sexual-sushi/ It's a great RS30 also.
  2. Just goes to show that giving it a go is the way to do it. So far I've heard everyone tell us why it's difficult and why they wouldn't attempt it but the way I see it, if you never give it a shot how will you know for sure? In some cases I think worry about "messing it up" is what holds a lot of us back from achieving what we want to. I know I'm guilty of this myself. @Peter that joggle join is what I had in mind also. I was also thinking that when welding you could get a solid clump of steel and hold it behind the area being welded to help absorb the heat from the welding and just very gradually apply heat to each section. So basically take a long time to weld. I was thinking oxy weld would perhaps be best because you can easily hammer and reshape the weld compared with MIG. Also the joggle would give a piece of metal on the other side of the weld that would also help to somewhat absorb heat and allow for a nice flush fit. The MIG might be advantageous because you can just tack, tack tack tack along and apply very little heat that way. But you'll end up having to spend time grinding down the welds. Good to know 97 Ford Lasers are roof donors .
  3. Early 240z antenna http://page19.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/x421851135 Starting at 45,000 yen. Part no. 27350-N4232 Arrow Tip Antenna.
  4. Sounds like a good idea Peter, I'm interested to see how it pans out but also may be interested in this form of repair on my gold 240z. I already have a spare turret but may do something like this as a "temporary" solution depending on my build direction etc..
  5. That was advertised at 3k last week we discussed a front end smack at some point in its life. Now listed again at 12k but revised to neg. Can't help but feel new owner is just looking to flip for profit. Not that I'm against that but potential buyers should know.
  6. Those are fender mirrors and not s30z ones. They are very similar to early AU market fender mirrors but a little different I have a thread on here with detailed photos of AU market mirrors. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/11290-early-australian-motoring-press-review-hs30-0004/ http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/11863-au-market-fender-mirrors/ http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/10892-early-style-fender-mirrors-as-found-on-early-chassis-id-ie-up-to-hs30-0400/#msg138088 Best photos of AU fender mirrors are here: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/10892-early-style-fender-mirrors-as-found-on-early-chassis-id-ie-up-to-hs30-0400/?p=142886
  7. Yes the angle is different . Did you ask them how functional it was (passenger mirror)?
  8. Yes by far the best most seamless repair is a new roof turret, but they are getting more difficult to source. I am currently in the US for work, I am hoping to meet with a fellow Z-nutter in San Francisco shortly. I will see how feasible it is to start importing panels from the US, apparently there is a swap meet on for Datsun's this coming weekend in SFO so I'll suss it out. Even if a roof turret costs $1000 AU to supply, it is still much cheaper than filling it in. After all why did Nissan make all those 280z's if not for spare parts?
  9. Lurch - will regard to this statement. Are you saying this from a non-professional perspective of tackling this job? As in you wouldn't advise an amateur to attempt this sort of job? Or even as a professional do you think it's a bad idea? I understand the sentiment, regarding avoiding heat. However if you had access to a TIG welder for example wouldn't you be able to exercise a lot of heat control and be able to get a good result?
  10. My 73 240z had the single side mirror. I was a learner driver when I used to drive it around. To be honest it was a little odd not having it for changing lanes but I always do a head check anyway for my blind spot, especially in an S30z with the rear 1/4 - c pillar profile it can be a little difficult to see in terms of visibility. However it was never a huge deal, at least it didn't seem that way to me. As an FYI, here is a European specification HLS30 which is Portuguese specification. (Apart from the fact that the car is drop dead gorgeous and stunning in this specification) with Kobe Seiko wheels (with DATSUN "D" caps), what appears to be OEM fog lamps on the front bumper and chrome trim headlights you'll note the single driver door mirror (since it's LHD). It is a bit odd looking at a car that is so similar to the Japanese Market Specification, yet is actually true to European specification. The only thing I'd change about it is the rear spoiler, I'd swap it out for the "ribbed" version first seen on the 432-R.
  11. Yeah that was a good video and looks like a fun event. Not sure why it was referenced as a 1972 260z at the start then referred to as a 240z later? Weird.

  13. Welcome and I'm sure your brother would be happy that you have taken on his project. I know I would be if my brother did the same for me. Please post a photo or 2 when you get a chance?
  14. The best way is a complete roof turret but you can weld them up with a bit of skill. Ledge has described the process before. He advised using an oxy welder as it is more pliable and you can reshape the weld with hammer and dolly. You will need a skim of filler with this method. Rob at Z-Factory can also do it. I'd say it wouldn't hurt to unpick the roof anyway as the frame can be rotten underneath especially near the rear 1/4 lead join area. I still haven't decided what I'll do with mine yet. Hope to get an Oxy welder soon for more practice.
  15. It took me 7 gears to find an AU spec rear view mirror. So it is not for sale, but if someone thinks they could replicate the stalk using it as a template for casting I would be interested in talking to them.
  16. Pete in the correct market anywhere from 1,500 - 3,000 AU would be possible in my opinion. You have to remember RHD dashboards are rare. I think a Japanese buyer would be interested and pay fair value for it. Earlier S30z RHD dashboards are even harder to find in NOS condition. (240z style). Price of those is difficult to say.
  17. Yes AU market only had 1 mirror on drivers side for the cars that didn't come with fender mirrors. I can't speak for all markets especially European though I believe North American and Australian were similar only 1 mirror.
  18. Awfully generous of you mate.
  19. Just saw a special on the plane about brown snakes and snakes in general. If you get bittten tourniquet the area to stop venom travelling. It doesn't travel via veins it travels up the tissue so a tourniquet prevents it moving but doesn't stop blood flow through the limb. Provided you get bitten on a limb of course. Go straight to hospital don't worry about IDing of snake they will do blood and urine test to determine what got you anyway. Stay safe.
  20. Since we are on the topic of pest control. Anyone know what is the most effective way to keep cockroaches out of the house? Every summer the bastards return.
  21. I think the bigger problem from talking to a few people about it is that the mirror becomes useless for actually looking out of. An alternative in my opinion might be Raydyot mirrors. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/11893-mirrorshas-anyone-seen-these-type-on-a-z-and-what-do-peoples-think/
  22. It's always good when you read praise for the S30z, but like so many other 2 minute do-over articles. They don't seem to have really done much research. Not sure who this Bernard fella is...they always mention "The German" even though he had literally nothing to do with the S30z.
  23. Another from me....Bellissimo Portuguese Spec 240z, note the Fog Lamps, The Chrome Trim Headlight rings, the Kobe Seiko Wheels (Look wider like RS spec maybe?) and the D (for Datsun wheel cap for them). The rear wing is the later style without the ribs and the defrost glass on rear is vertical.
  24. Expect to pay around $2000 AU for a set of Triple Mikuni / Solex 44's. Price will depend a lot on condition also.
  25. Yes I was referring to the original 240z mirror as delivered to the Australian market. I do have an original mirror, so if anyone knows of a way to reproduce the correct stalk and take a mould from it let me know?
