  1. It looks like an amalgamation between the Type B ZG kit and a regular S30z front end. I've seen worse but also a lot better.
  2. Go for it George! Haha. I quite like the steelies without the covers myself.
  3. You would need to remove the door trims to have a look, but be careful when removing the trims because you can easily damage them, just gently pry the cards off once you remove the window crank, arm rests etc..The lock is activated with a lever and there are plastic nubs that slip over the metal levers in the door. If the plastic has broken off it won't active the lock. Of course the locks could be stubborn from years of use and neglect also. The good thing is it's all pretty simple once you have access to it, and you can buy these parts relatively easily if needed.
  4. Andy the door locks don't lock from the outside without the key. So you cannot lock the doors before shutting them in an S30z, you have to close the door and use the key to lock the doors. I usually lock the passenger side first, then hop out, close driver door and lock it with the key.
  5. RE #3 above. 2 places in Victoria offer this. http://www.umaster.com.au/(Preston) http://www.youdoitauto.com.au/(Williamstown) If anyone knows of places in Sydney please feel free to let us know! Found this on Gumtree. (looks proper dodgy haha). http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/smithfield/mechanics-garages/mechanic-workshop-for-rent-work-bay-/1091949022
  6. I like the getaway in a 240z story, although you'd think a car that was a bit more inconspicuous would give you a better chance at a getaway wouldn't it? Where do prisoners get cash for fuel by the way?
  7. It wasn't bodywork I was referring to, there is other classes you can take on a whole range of car repairs. But I'm not sure they are all based around casual learning like the bodywork is.
  8. Jason perhaps you could add a recommended business to the appropriate section of the forum and link to it? If 1 buries their head in the sand it leaves their arse awfully exposed.
  9. It wasn't directed at you, I posted an early 240z for sale on Gumtree a while ago (~ #200 odd) and it had been chopped into a convertible. A few people said they liked it. I'm not a fan of convertible S30Z's myself, the roof line maketh the car. Chopping it off removes the good bit haha.
  10. I think there is 3 options. 1. Take it to Stewart Wilkins (but you won't learn anything yourself) or 2. Look at enrolling in a technical college (tafe) based on the things you want to get done. This is a slow way of doing it though (trust me haha). Perhaps we should have weekend workshops for Auszcar where we all help each other out? I was looking at https://www.theloop.com.au/and you can find shared workspaces you rent with other people in warehouses etc.. 3. In the US they have DIY workshops you can go to and hire a lift / tools by the hour. Example: http://www.yelp.com.au/biz/pit-row-santa-clara-2 But not sure if anything like this exists in Sydney yet? I tried 1 out in Dublin but they went bankrupt before I got to use them regularly.
  11. Thanks Alan, I'm fascinated by all the switches and additions to the interior on the rally cars.
  12. Here is the 260z 2 seater door trim lock position for comparison.
  13. Can you put me down as tentatively attending? I am still not sure if I'll be in Melbourne for Christmas yet. Oh and I would be attending in my 72 240z if I do come down.
  14. Jealous? Whatever.
  15. Alan in that same photo (I think it's 1 of yours), what is the flexible hose thing next to the trip master? Is it some form of map light?
  16. Put yer money where ya mouth is.. S30z convertible... Personally not my cup of tea.. Buy it now: 3,480,000 yen
  17. You can tell the difference between a 71A and later gearboxes by looking at the bell housing section. It looks quite different. 71A Gearbox shown below out of an early 240z. The gear selector also looks different. The yoke in the back of the gearbox is the non-slip on yoke type (it's a flange you bolt up to instead). It's difficult to tell the difference externally with other gearboxes (71B and 71C) and there have been discussions about oil filler position (left or right side) indicating if a gearbox was for an S30Z or another car like 240K, at this stage (40+ years later) nothing can be assumed. If you decide to put a regular gearstick in your S30z you will probably find it won't clear the transmission tunnel hole. Of course the way around this and what many have done before is cut the transmission tunnel, however that is cutting up an early car and in my experience this is also why so many early consoles are cracked or cut just after the fuse/ash-tray lid, personally I prefer the bent gear lever if you can live with it?
  18. Sounds like you got yourself a good S130Z, they are actually becoming quite rare now and hard to find parts for. So well done.
  19. What year is your 240z? That looks like it was modified for an early S30z (with original 71A) to accept a later gearbox (71B and 71C). This is because the earlier cars had the gearbox lever hole set further back than later cars where it was moved forward.
  20. Another Fairlady Z432 here. http://www.goo-net-exchange.com/usedcars/NISSAN/FAIRLADY_Z/700980003830151011001/index.html Personally I love the Steel Topy Wheels on it. Month / Year:10.1972 Mileage:27,000 km Chassis No:PS30-10**** Model code:PS30
  21. http://www.datsunclassifieds.com/auto-parts/left-inner-fender-240z-body-250.00-240z-4535.html LEFT INNER FENDER 240Z, BODY - $250 each. NB: These are HLS30 prefix parts, you can tell by the relief in the inner wheel well for the brake booster.
  22. Last 1 that was listed sold for 100,000 YEN within a few minutes of being listed at that buy it now.
  23. I often think about this kind of thing also. For example I own #150 and Locky (Lurch) owns #149 - I'm looking forward to getting them side by side in the not too distant future for a photo. #35 was made just after the early rally cars which is kind of cool in itself.
  24. That 1 has been for sale for a while now, unfortunately the images I posted earlier in this thread are now broken. Unfortunately there is quite a few small issues with that car that would prevent it reaching top value. The tail lights for example are reproduction items and not NOS.
