The RH A-pillar was still in good condition (apart from surface rust on the inside), so we kept it. However the bottom section was rusted out, so we decided to replace it. It's a slightly heavier gauge in 1.2mm, so it's a little harder to work, but we managed to fabricate up a replacement section in one piece. We then media blasted inside the cavity: Linished back and given a temporary coat of silver zinc.

  2. Second batch of carpets arrived today at CAR. Now we are only a rear windscreen and some small parts from z store (all in transit) away from being parts complete. It’s a great feeling knowing that I don’t have any more parts to order to fully complete the car.

  3. 3d printed horn pad retainer rings. Replacing your broken horn pad is now easy and super quick, pull the old one out, us a little bit of silicone or sikaflex and just clip the new one in! Printed to fit the 240z horn pad, but will also fit 240k and 510 SSS horn pads. $35 posted, and $5 from every sale is donated to the AusZcar forum.

    Vos 260Z 2+2 Build

So our car arrived in Sydney: We were expecting a few surprises and there are a few, but nothing major. I think this is part of being annointed into a S30 restorer! We will be on the lookout for a few bits but it seems to have the hard to get bits. I can see we are missing some large bits: * Fuel tank * Bumpers * Windscreen * Hood liner It has a partially dissassembled L26 (with turbo and manifold), but no gearbox. It seems to have a rear diff upgrade but we need to work out what it is. Our current plan is to get a RB25DE neo engine and a matching 5 speed manual (R33 RB25??) and fit that and get it running as stock initially. We have plans for RB30 hybrid and cams/porting etc later, but I think it best to debug the engine management and everything on a used engine rather than a new build. We will have to talk to an engineer first and see what we need to do that. The car has no rust which is great. It has a few knocks that will need some minor repairs and panel alignment and it will be getting a respray at some point, but probably we will get it all sorted and registered and then in the running state we want it in, and then dissassemble for painting as a final step. Seats and dash are in good condition. Just one minor crack in dash.

Next job on the list was the rusted out toe boards / firewall areas: You may also notice that we tried our hardest to to keep the factory panel dimples... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- With the drip rails fabricated, our attention turned to the roof frame itself and the extensive amount of structural rust - a part of the rust repairs that was going to be the trickiest... Fortunately I procured a rear cut that had the complete roof frame plus some other panel sections we needed. I deemed this quicker and cheaper than re-fabricating the frame sections from scratch... So we added to the bracing by added some sections that picked up threaded holes in the roof frame, then carefully unpicked the roof frame, until we were able to fully remove it: At which point the replacement roof frame could be welded into position:

  6. Thanks for the reply Wags. I've been talking to a salesperson called Christine and she claims to have checked with their suppliers and was told the rear hatch glass is discontinued which is a bit strange considering you have just ordered the same piece from the same place. The price is fine considering the only other option is to use the original one I have that's got very deep grooves worn in it from the louvre it used to have. As I've just done a ground up bare metal respray, I really don't want to go that way! Who did you deal with at Auto Glass Warehouse? Maybe I should contact them? i've just sent an email to "Christine" and asked her to check again with the manufacturer and see if they will reconsider. Fingers crossed....

This is why I tell people to spend more buying the best example possible..I suspect this car was in a humid Queensland region most of it's life. Which probably contributed to the rust situation.

Bloody hell. Words cannot adequately describe the detailed extent of work being undertaken nor the dedication of the artisans. Phew!
