Regarding your signature

Not putting miles on your Ferrari is like not having sex with your girlfriend so she'll be more desirable to her next boyfriend.

Wouldn't you want the Ferrari to be more desirable to her next boyfriend to receive a higher market value/selling price?

You sell your girlfriends?  ???

You only sell a zed to either:

1) Buy another Zed

2) About to lose your house etc..

.

I would sell my house If I was about to loose my zed  8)

Hi All,

Long time no update.

I have moved back in with my parents which means revenue has dramatically increased.

I have segregated my practical wish list into 3 phases.

Stage 1
======
-Front fender and bonnet repairs ($600) DONE
-Repair minor dented bonnet ($?) DONE
-Front airdam ($300) DONE
-Datsun mud flaps ($?)
-Replace ignition barrel and door locks to suit a single (original Datsun) key ($200)
Estimate: $1500

Stage 2
======
-RetroSound USA Model 2 Stereo ($425) DONE
-Pioneer rear speakers ($33) DONE
-Electrical antenna ($100)
-Central locking (Gift) DONE
-Security alarm (Gift) DONE
-Engine immobilizer ($200) DONE
Estimate: $900

Stage 3 (Novelty)
======
-Carbon fibre bonnet ($1500)
-Repair hand brake ($?) DONE
-Re-skin leather dash ($600)
-Wattanabe 15x8 wheels ($1400)
Estimate: $4000

Getting there..

Get your composite panels from Restored, through Ben from Otomoto.

The quality is worth the extra expense.

I got my FG panels from Alfamotorsport.

They are decent quality panels however they did need a bit of work (not show quality)

Perfect for the scope of my car though, im happy with them.

So long as you fit up your panels and spend time on the panel gaps it wont look out of place at all.

Hey Sam, wherever you are getting quotes for these two items in particular, sign me up! 8)

You have my sympathy.

Where is the dent? A hammer and dolly would take care of this relatively easily and quickly. However if it's along the leading edge of the bonnet it might be a bit more tricky and involve a couple of tack welds and a slide hammer. The expensive part is paint really.

Hey Alex,

I plan on tackling the key issue via modifying existing ignition barrel to suit door, hatch and fuel lid locks.

As for the wheels, I will only purchase if I find a set which matches my requirements and budget - I'm not in any urgency..

The dent is at the front edge unfortunately Gav.

I'm actually inclined to purchase a carbon fiber bonnet instead - How much weight do these actually reduce as opposed to keeping the original bonnet?

And thanks.

I was actually looking at Otomoto before I posted the update - They have a set for about $1100.

Has anybody had any experience with these fiber glass fenders before? How sturdy are they?

Well the original bonnet is quite heavy, I imagine a carbon 1 to be very light and give a good weight saving but couldn't give a figure without weighing them.

I'd say a carbon rear hatch with plexiglass would also have a massive difference in weight. That glass is heavy.

sam why are you going with composite guards?? whats wrong with your current ones?

My front guards have got rust bubbles in them Ben and I would have preferred to seek routes which essentially provided a rust-proof solution to the vehicle.

My father's friend and panel beater who did the body resto on my previous project also mentioned that $1100 is far too excessive for a pair of guards, whether it be fiberglass or not.

Hence I have decided to simply repair them instead and re-adjusted my practical list above.

You do pay for quality sam... IMO metal is always better then Composites for a street driven car (unless it was engineered to be made up of composite).

I don't wish to have any form of engineering checks at this stage... Although i understand where you're coming from.

My vision is to drive a retro, stylish, yet affordable sports car.

I don't plan to spend thousands as most do on race/competition spec Z's here.

im not talking about getting your car engineered sam. Im talking about cars that come from factory equipped with a composite shell/panels.

strange when you have an old car it never gets hit, and as soon as you have something nice it seems to get damaged or break
