Retro Z Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Sam just buy that $1600 shell off ebay. Offer the guy $1000 as it hasnt sold for ages. And we'll do a cut and shut with your car. Not as hard as people think and safe if done right..shouldnt cost you more than a couple thousand to get it done plus the shell. Quote
53-681 Posted March 21, 2012 Author Posted March 21, 2012 Mark lol ahaahaha you got me hard there mate! Yeah, I guess it is a liability saxon, one I don't mind for a midnight blue 2 seater!!! Cut and Shut Tai? Quote
lightmaster240z Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 I'm not sure you are up to joining the ranks of the the elite midnight Blue Z owner yet Quote
Retro Z Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Yeah sam a 'cut and shut' your from Broady you should know what im talking about. On a serious note I done this to my old 2+2 around 2 years ago..which my cousin now has, and got the rockers reinforced and had tube steel for rails with subframe connectors, thicker sheet metal floor pans etc. plenty strong if not stronger than standard as there isnt much holding a Z together as is. I know a few shops down your side of town that will do it..that way u can re-use your motor, interior etc. Quote
kobes Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 I say fang around in your awesome bus for a year spending very little on it ( of course a minimal outlay for sub, speakers and some neon's) If you put 100 a week into bank this time next year you will have 5'200. Then you will have had an awesome time cruising while gaining alot towards your goal. if you then sell your bus next year you will be able to get most of what ya want (the bloody tricky bit, is normally, yes even bus drivers, manage to pull a chicky babe, and gets somewhat difficult explaining to them why you are saving so hard to buy something you already got except it got to seat less?) Administrators gav240z Posted March 21, 2012 Administrators Posted March 21, 2012 All this nonsense over a slightly different roof line and why didn't you just paint your 2+2 blue....? Seriously, enjoy the 2+2 as it is, for now. Don't be in a rush to get a 2 seater the right time and car will come up. Right now your not earning that much money (just being honest) and I'm sure in a few years you'll have a better paying job and more cash to play with. I remember being on a low wage and wanting to do so many things and just not being able to do it. I understand this sickness, but you should just chill out a bit. Enjoy the fruits of your labor (the 260z) and drive it around whilst keeping it in good running order. Save any additional cash you have so you can buy the right car when it comes up (or go on that overseas travel adventure with your mates) and then buy the car outright (no loans...) and then take your time to sell the 260z 2+2. You'll get the cash back for the 2+2 and stick it in the bank and earn some interest on it. Or blow it all on an unreliable triple carb blow through turbo set up from the 80's Wangan Midnight Comics. Your choice...really..but the 2+2 shape is still attractive and it's still essentially the same car, plus as mentioned they do handle a bit better -> I never spun my 260z 2+2 180 degrees in the wet going onto a freeway on ramp (done that in the 240z though and sh%t myself - it was wet out). Also you still need to save some money for a proper haircut - first things first. Quote
luvemfast Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Sam's 2+2 is really quite a neat and tidy car. He should keep it and finish the mechanicals and the interior IMHO Quote
Wayne G Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 Enjoy your car and expend your energy on those legs you posted a picture of a while back . Unless they were actually yours sisters as was suggested . Quote
peter t Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 Enjoy your "bus" Mine pulls as many looks as a two seater would as I don't think the average yobo would know the difference anyway. If you really want a cheap two seater just fold down the back seat and presto you have got one. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted March 22, 2012 Moderators Posted March 22, 2012 Sam, If you made your zed look like that silver one with the flares from Ireland, everyone would want it! Can't find the pic now but do a search and have a look.. its worth it. Quote
chris240 Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 Pffffft. Sam, easy solution, you either need to get yourself a rich girlfriend and get her to buy the 2 seater because she loves you, or find a middle aged hot mama and get her to buy the zed because you love her Quote
bullzed Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 Sam, If you made your zed look like that silver one with the flares from Ireland, everyone would want it! Can't find the pic now but do a search and have a look.. its worth it. You mean this one? That's what I modelled mine off! Quote
Agno Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 That black detailing instead of chrome on the grey 2+2 (and 620Z's car) goes such a long way to modernising the looks of an early zed. Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 The view from the drivers seat of a 2+2 is the same as a 2 seater (just don't look in the rear view mirror) Quote
luvemfast Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 You mean this one? That, is one sexy 2+2! Sam, it wouldnt take too much to bring your car up to a standard like that. Quote
saxon Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 I don't really believe 2 seater looks superior to 2+2. As seen in that pic, 2+2 can look so awesome. There aren't many 2 seaters around that look better than that. Many times, people buy 2+2s cause they're on a budget, which means their whole restoration and overall attention to detail is on a budget, so 2+2s on average don't come out looking as good as 2 seaters. But if you put in the effort, and willing to spend a bit of cash, and have a good sense of style, a 2+2 can be made to look better than most 2 seaters out there. Same with 280zx. You think, this car looks like rubbish, and then you see Simon's car, it looks totally awesome cause he has a good sense of style and he's put money into it. I think a person who can make a 2 seater look good can make a 2+2 look good. And conversely, if they can't make a 2+2 look good, they won't be able to make a 2 seater look good. Quote
d3c0y Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 Lol Simon's looks good because it's a 2 seater Quote
saxon Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 I knew someone was going to say that! I don't think the fact it is a 2 seater is the reason why it looks good. If it didn't have that killer air dam and was a foul colour like most 280zx's I see, it wouldn't look great even though it is a 2 seater. It's little things, like airdam choice, wheel choice, colour scheme, etc that make a massive difference, not if its 2 seater or 2+2. Quote
Cdr Zero Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 Or blow it all on an unreliable triple carb blow through turbo set up from the 80's Wangan Midnight Comics. ^^ This. Quote
Scoota G Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 I get the feeling that one or more of sam's "Bro's" have said some thing about his zed that have made him think twice about it. I didn't help either when i took him for a quick spin in the SR20DET powered 200B i built a while back. I really like the flares on the 2+2, i think they look better on them than the 2 Seater. Flame on Johnny! Quote
