Hey everyone just curious how many 240 and 260 2 seaters are there?  How many people still run there car with the original matching engine numbers or have the matching engine stored away?  Does this make the car more valuable?  What about the origional body colour from factory?

Its just im rebuilding my 75 260z 2 seater and its goes in for paint in 2 weeks and i still haven't decided what colour i want!!!  do i do it its original green or do i go with another factory colour like silver or a completely different colour? (heading towards the factory silver)

Ive also got a worked L28 to put in it but Ive kept the matching block and auto gearbox for later rebuild but probably not the auto.

Just another question what were the factory interior colours for a 75 260z?

Any input would be greatly appreciated

thanks heaps

I'm probably not that good in helping you with  choices as im strong believer in  "your car you do what u want with it" but still its good to get input from others.

i had the same dilemma with my 240z with original engine but colour was er pooooo. Actually its Mustard or Safari Gold.

looks yuk on deteriorated car, but seen pics of some and they not bad. so at this stage I decided to stay original and to rebuild it to close to original specs. Its early 227 1970 so its kinda special.

i personally don't think it will change in aspects of value but i'm sure others will argue that. as long as its one of the original color schemes shouldn't make any difference.

anyway i like referring to this site for original external and interior colors.

keep in mind it is US but i think early 240 and 260 ones are very close with oz delivered ones.

I found a source that quotes the following for the 240Z imported to Oz

1970 ...........319

1971............894

1972............362

1974............783

the source quotes that 1976, 2000 units passed through dealers doors, dont know if that includes 2+2's, I do remember seeing a low figure, around 300 odd for the 260Z 2 seater but cant remember where :'(

Hmm, i remember seeing somewhere that there were very few 260z 2 seaters in the country, less than the total of the 240z's anyway.

240's seem to be the collectable one, even though the 260 2 seater 'should' be rarer.

I dont see the 260's overtaking the 240's in price for similar conditions any time soon.

As for making it valuable, if thats your aim, restore it to concourse condition, then bury it in a hermetically sealed container for 40 years.

Otherwise, do with it as you wish, and most of all ENJOY IT!!

Personally i am of the belief that you should modify YOUR car for YOU, not what others say is cool or accepted.

At the end of the day, if you want to sell it, its only worth what someone will pay you for it...

With my zed, it's far from stock but I try to stay with bolt on mods that don't affect the car permanently..like a welded in rollcage etc. It will have its matching number engine in by this weekend (fingers and legs crossed..started this arvo!) but other parts like my front brake mod can be removed for stock brakes to go on. Race seats can and will be replaced with stockies. If you are worried about originality, keep the mods simple and reversible.

I like the look of a standard Z with a nice set of wheels nothing over the top.  Every mod I do will be bolt on I hope but It will be my car and I don't plan on selling it anytime soon I just want to keep looking original.  I just don't want to do anything to far from original.  I plan to enjoy it  :)

Thanks everyone

I had the Matching numbers engine in 1975 260Z machined and fully rebuilt but now after a year i'm going to put it away. In place will be an L28.

Why?

Because they are cheap where i live. Really the matching numbers really only comes to play on resale, doesn't it? Other than that the only mod i can't undo is the welded on over riders. Such Is Life!

I have some Australian sales numbers somewhere and from memory the 260z two seaters sold where only around 220 (from '75 to '78) compared with over 7500 station wagons.......anecdotally due to the pricing that had the 2+2's priced only margainally above the 2 seater...............and availability, 2+2's were in stock, 2 seaters needed to be ordered with long lead times for delivery. (an uncle of mine wanted a 2 seater in 1977 and was quoted $9k and 6 weeks delivery for a two seater so he bought a 2+2 off the floor for $8500)

I'm of the similar opinion.

Keep it bolt on if you are concerned about resale value, you can have a pretty trick car with lots of cool bolt on stuff if you really want to. The only thing I would love to do but wont because it destroys the inherent value of the car is ZG flares. Otherwise its really up to your imagination as to what you want to do.

Hey mate,

nice looking 2 seater. 260Z 2-seaters are my favorite given their rarity and the "big block" L26 ;D. I agree with the others, keep all the mods bolt-on and reversible, this is what I also intend to do.

As for the color choice, is yours 240 green metallic or 303 emerald green? Sticker was on top of the radiator support panel. Looks to me like it was the emerald green. My vote would be to re-spray it the original green, the emerald green especially is a stunning color and I have not seen many others this color in Australia. Just adds that extra touch of originality, and aside from that, both of these greens are very nice colors and rare on zeds.

I think the green would also look good with the yellow iron cross wheels on it, green and yellow theme would be cool, but that's just me ;D

Look forward to seeing the resprayed car. :)

Yeh I'm not to sure which green it was as the previous owner removed the sticker when they painted it black so I am not to sure.  The wheels I painted yellow when I was going to keep it black about 5 years ago but now I'm thinking about getting them polished up.

Go the 302 Leaf Green ................original and vary rare in 2 seaters

If you convert to manual you don't have to keep all the auto stuff. There is no way to know if the car was a factory Auto or Manual as this was not marked on the car. So unless you have the original sales docket that shows it was an Auto no one would be any wiser. Nissan did not keep records from what we know so far - so RS30-015123 (or whatever) was not recorded as an auto or manual anywhere.

Re colour - whatever you like - your car at the end of the day :) mine was 240 metallic green but it was resprayed when I got it a few shades lighter. It is now non metallic 907 GP Green a factory 240z colour only used 70-71.

Oh well worth a try!

Looks like mine will have to be 100mm off the deck, with ZG falres, wats and an RB30 then.

It would be nice to have the patience and budget to do a faitfull restoration, but considering whats already done to my car its not really worth it.

Big dolars will be a low mile original 240z, hub caps and all. Next best seems to be a well built, well sorted 2 seater wether it be 240 or 260. Given the platform you have to start with your well on your way

I've seen three 1973 240Z Sports and all of them had the word auto on the compliance plate.  Don't know about other models.

It will work if you have a real early one without a compliance plate.. my zed never had one neither does Lurch's? Don't know if mine was auto or manual..I just know it's staying manual!
