Sgt_Pepper Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Hello My name is Mick Pepper, I have been following this forum for a very long time as a guest and reading all about your builds. Id like to thank everyone first up for all the fantastic info the site and what its members have to offer, it has been a real eye opener over the past few months. I inherited a 240Z when my uncle passed away a few years ago, he had purchased it as a 20 something year old in the early 70's and never parted with it, I wasn't sure what to do with it and it has been sitting in storage ever since. I then started to investigate the value of them and realised this car in its state was a keeper. Over the past few months I had a series of incidents that started to steer me in a certain direction, I drove a 850csi BMW which I was involved in an accident with, as a result I was offered the wreck back after it was total lossed by the insurer, and in a moment of sheer inspiration decided to keep it and use its V12 motor trans and as much running gear as possible transplanting it into the 240. So here I am, full of aspirations and dreams hoping to learn more from all of you wonderful people. Ive read a number of posts and realise I will be asked at some stage about my user name, as i said my name is Mick Pepper and I was nicked named Sargent Pepper years ago so it kind of stuck. PeterAllen Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 The BMW V12 in the US is fitted to a 280Z, an S30 not an S31, but it has the wheelbase extended 100mm to both match the 250 GTO replica body and also to accommodate the engine. Even with that the firewall had been extensively modified to make it all fit. It think you might find it comes under an 'Individually Constructed Vehicle' here in Oz and would be a major engineering and financial project. If it's a one-owner it sounds perfect for an original restoration. Quote

Agree with Peter's comments .. be sure to have lots of folding stuff to be sure you'll get the car the way it needs to be. You are going to need a VERY impressive shed with all the goodies you can find. Just building the shed and amassing the toys (tools) will be great fun. 620Z Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Welcome. I hope this isn't going to be one of those half finished projects up for sale in a year or two's time. Unless you have $20,000- spare to fit the motor and get it roadworthy and driving I wouldn't be starting the project ruining a nice classic Zed. Then some more spare cash for the body, brakes, wheels etc. Not trying to be a downer just a realist. If you go ahead I look forward to seeing it on the road and will be impressed. Quote

Brabham Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Welcome. V12 would be an awesome build but I have to agree with the others and cast my vote on keeping it original. Another option would be to buy an old L28 and take it to someone who builds group Sc engines, they will get an easy 250 HP out of it if that is what you want. However a one owner car would be too nice to do this to in my opinion... hope to see some pics of the car Quote
