RBZ 260 Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 As title said after 3days of rego my z is perminantly retired. This morning a guy cut me off comming out of side street and bang. Everyone is kinda ok no mayor injuries besides brusers and light cuts. Both cars write offs my z probably worse off. Shell is beyond repair. I'll be lucky if I could salvage the engine and gbox. From what I can see it's probably ok. Can't tamper with it till insurance checks it out. So one less 2+2 around :'( :'( :'( Pics will follow soon (tommorow)but warning if u don't want to see graphic carnige of s30 look away Quote
Zeddophile Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 That sucks mate - you must be gutted.... Quote
Mr240z Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 That's real bad news.....Sorry to hear john, at lease everyone allright. Keep your chin up mate. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted February 16, 2010 Moderators Posted February 16, 2010 That is my worst nightmare...as long as you are ok. Things like that make me think twice about driving my zed around on full reg... Quote
reverendzed Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Sorry to hear that Johnny, thankfully no human carnage...but the Zed loss is still very real. Rev. Quote
DoctorZ Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Mate I'm sorry to hear that too. As everyone has said at least there's no serious injuries. I know you've spent a lot of time and money on that car and you'd done a fantastic job from what I could see. I hope you've still got other Zed project cars, I'd hate to see you give it up. Quote
hunterzed Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 That really does suck. I had a similar thing with the same outcome for my 280zx. Well I guess there is only one thing for it. Find a doner shell and use the cash that you get from insurance to get the parts you need and then have a few working bee's / BBQ's with a bunch of guys and you'll be back driving a zed before you know it. Hard to pick back up again though. Quote
Stivva Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Real bad news dude. In the eye of the law, was he at fault? And out of interest, did the other driver say anything about writing of a classic? Or did he not have any idea? Quote
stevo_gj Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Johnny I'm sorry to hear this mate. I hope you get another Z shell you can swap your running gear into. Quote
maddos Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 It happens so easy. Nearly had the same fate last weekend in mine. Car pulled out of street, then decides to look in my direction and stops dead in my lane. Had to go around on opposite side of road. They give you the shits. Quote
C.A.R. Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Awww SH!T! After all that work too... I'm sorry to hear the John Quote
FuzzyDropbear Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Shit, sorry to hear the news mate, your Z was a fine example of a 2+2. Quote
RBZ 260 Posted February 16, 2010 Author Posted February 16, 2010 GRRRR NOT MY day at all ive allready typed it all than the forum post crashed so here i go again. Thanks for the support guys. after a very rough nite things dont seem much different than yesterday if not bit worse. I got very sore neck leg and my left wrist. the wrist is hurting due to me holding the gearstick during the crash and cleanly snapped it off the gearbox and my hand plowing through the cd player adding a black nail to my finger. also my left leg squashed the headlight reminder box that was under the dash beyond recognition. have a seatbelt rash and for some reason (havent figured yet how) im limping on my right leg. Just got back from the DR. as besides the black nail and the little scratch on the leg i was fine after the accident. though now different story. Im stuck at home with strict orders not to move or go to work till i have another check up on friday. now to the accident part. won't reveal too many details as yet till things sort out but in a nutshell i was in right lane guy came out of the side street cutting me off and me going straight into him. police said he be charged with failing to give way. as u can see per pics the car is pretty stuffed. also u can see the pic of the lancer. what will happen to it will see ill will keep the wreck regardless. and then il asses what to do with it when all this is over. for a second there during the slow mo i wished i was in newer car as i thought ithis is going to hurt. thankfully to some 6m LOL of bonnet lenght the Z kept me safe and cabin seem fairly intact. so old z is still very strong and fairly safe car at least in frontal collisions Quote
sexual_sushi Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Ouch Hope everything works out the way it should with the police/insurance etc. Even in that state, you can still see what a fine car it was. Damn all those retarded drivers out there... Quote
chris240 Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 tragic please tell me you had it insured for a reasonable & proper amount :-\ Quote
benny Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 at least the wheels are ok!!! and you ofcourse Quote
zedevan Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 dam that sucks! Hope you recover from your injuries fast, and that you had a nice agreed value on it, as we all know how much it would cost to pay someone to build one like that! on a semi positive note (ok, its not really one) it gives you an excuse to play around with putting the 2 seater rear windows in a 2+2 without having to redo what you had already done i'd be interested to see the interior damage you managed to do to it with your body, sounds painful. idiots on the road are what made me want a daily with air bags, get a late 180sx and make it look like a 240z with that front end conversion, fender mirrors, flares, s15 dash with gauges in the vents... surely to pull out in front of someone so stupidly you'd have to b 'hooning'?!?...that would be a nicer fine than only failure to give way [i've had the forum crash many times, so i try to remember to ctrl+a ctrl+c everytime before i click ok] Quote
RBZ 260 Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 cheers guys, lets not talk about insurance and agreed values as i only had 3rd party on the car. so ill be going against his insurance and thats what is the unknown. Quote
MaygZ Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Can I suggest you approach someone like Shannons and obtain a pre-crash valuation? They will be significantly more accurate and reasonable than HER insurance companies valuation. Quote
Lynton Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Oh man what can I say, I am so sorry to see the carnage of such hard work and presentation, I am glad you are ok ........but hey, you have to drive and enjoy your car, you can't just leave it in the garage .....well I do leave mine in the garage sort of, so I shouldn't say that, newer cars are definetly safer inside though I often think of exactly that as I graduate out of my S15 back into the Zed for a sporting cruise. hope the insurance works out..............dam what a bummer.....Lynton Quote
Cdr Zero Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Ahh that's terrible, what an awful thing to happen to your pride and joy. At least everyone is ok. :'( Quote
Sirpent Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Condolences Buddy A total loss is always gutt wrenching, but moreso when you are the innocent party. I know you dont want to hear all our advice, but MaygZ was onto something, I have a slightly different idea though from my experience with AMMI as an assessor years ago. Get an independent assessor to do an assessment on your car, put a pre loss value on it and then send the other insurers a Letter of Demand based on the independent assessment. Genrally big insurers dont like this being pulled on them especially when their insured is 100% at fault, it means it could end up in court as a dispute over quantum which also means it's going to cost them bigger dollars to defend their evaluation. Most times they just setlte on the independent assessment if its isnt off the planet. An independent assessor will cost you about $150.00, you get a full report and justification as to the market value they put on it, if you want I can provide you with some more tips that will also help if you decide to do it, just PM me. Cheers John Quote

nizm0zed Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Jeez man, thats really bad. Sorry to hear about your car. That car was one of the first i ever saw when i started looking into zeds, it was part of the inspiration for my car. glad your ok (physically anyway) but seriously, milk the injury for everything you can. Even if you think your ok, the injuries can come back ater to plauge you. Keep a journal handy at all times, write EVERYTHING in it, even little things like feeling depressed, or a little ache when reaching for something in a cupboard. Record all your doctors visits, including travel costs and out of pocket expenses, you can claim all of it. It also looks a lot more professional to the insurance companies/court that you can keep accurate records and maintain a professional mature attitude throughout the whole matter. Makes them think twice about thinking you'll cave when they try to screw you over. anyways, good luck with it all, hopefully we see you buying a new Z project soon.... Quote
RBZ 260 Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 thanks guys and sirpent thanks for the tip. ill pm you for more details. the car i scurrently insured through shannons but 3rd party. they werent interested in looking at the case unless the other party hasnt got insurance. when i got the quote for sull sight unseen about 2 years ago they agreed value with incomplete interior was 16k. i prob give them another call to see if i can get the pre loss value from them. I still want to keep the wreck and reuse the goodies on the 240z. even though i had different plans for that one but circumstances change but it will speed up the rebuild on the 240z considerably. thats if the engine survived. it was a damn good clean engine so be pissed if its stuffed. due to my neck pain from the whiplash i still havent seen the car since it got droped at my parents place shortly after the accident. still got to solve few mysteries like where did my ray bans disapeared after the impact. they were on my head. but now nowhere to be found. another boring day laying still all day in bed . what a waste of time. absolute torcher as im type of person that cant rest more than 30min have to go and tinker with something. thank god for iphone at least i can reply to u guys.
