Sirpent Posted January 24, 2010 Author Posted January 24, 2010 Thanks for the thumbs up NZ, And if after the prototype is finished, and the first ex-mold example is fitted to the car and there is enough interest, I may call on interested parties to put their hands up for a production run. Cheers John Quote
Sirpent Posted January 26, 2010 Author Posted January 26, 2010 Happy Au-"Z"-tralia day all........ I decided to dedicate half the day to the "Z" and the other half to the family, so a bit of progress, slow but sure, managed to fibro the LH Head lamp bucket in place, reshape the cone and fibro up the lower bar to wheel arch extension using some cardboard as a temp pattern to lay it all down on. Cheers John Quote
zzzzed Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Needs moar Bog. nah go for the fiber fill Quote
Sirpent Posted January 26, 2010 Author Posted January 26, 2010 Needs moar Bog. nah go for the fiber fill ?????????????? It was fibre'd from underneath, bog was only for the finer shaping Quote
zzzzed Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 you can put the fishing gear away now lurch ;D ;D ;D Quote
Sirpent Posted February 6, 2010 Author Posted February 6, 2010 Okay, The annual Sat arvo update for those following this build and the Hybrid G-Nose Im building, and also becuase Lurch and Mick felt I needed to do more Bog work on it .......... From the Baron of Bog for your viewing pleasure............... Quote
Sirpent Posted February 6, 2010 Author Posted February 6, 2010 As you will all note the bottom half extension to the guad is now all done, I have also hand drawn a line where the lower lip will raise to and which then curve and have the same lip as the fender. The lower edge of the bottom edge will be cut back for a straight finish front to rear towards the end of the bar build. Quote
Sirpent Posted February 6, 2010 Author Posted February 6, 2010 All in all everything blend and flows well, and Im happy with the overall profile as shown in the rear looking forward shot, I am still contenplating what to do with the bar cavity in the guard, more than likely I will be fabricating an in fill piece out of sheet metal so as it is a smooth guard / bar fit. Quote
Sirpent Posted February 6, 2010 Author Posted February 6, 2010 Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh the Masters seal of approval, Im honored...........LOL Nah thanks mate its appreciated. Further updates as it happens, I want to finish one side and mount the parker in see how it all works, but Im hopeful what Im invisaging will work out well. Cheers John Quote
chris240 Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 John how would the guard look if you didnt smooth-in the bar cavity ? "might" look ok ....just my 5 cents Quote
garvice Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 That is a lot of bog! You must have taken you ages to build that up in layers. Well done mate it is coming together. Quote
Sirpent Posted February 6, 2010 Author Posted February 6, 2010 That is a lot of bog! You must have taken you ages to build that up in layers. Well done mate it is coming together. 2 applications over the fibreglass base I built up first Garvice, took about 2 hours to apply and work back. John how would the guard look if you didnt smooth-in the bar cavity ? "might" look ok ....just my 5 cents Yeah looking at it, a small square indicator like the ones used on VR commodores would fit and bolt perfectly over it to conceal the cavity, but Im running the VW Passat lamps so it would look a bit overkill to have both. And remember guys, this is just the prototype so as to produce a mould so I am really re-enforcin it and the amount of material I use isnt a concern. Quote
reverendzed Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 excellent John, the shape is outstanding! Rev. Quote
Sirpent Posted February 6, 2010 Author Posted February 6, 2010 Thanks Dave, But Im eagerly awaiting seeing pics of your EP work also. Cheers John Quote
zzzzed Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 good work mate A+ for some reason i am thinking Bowell Quote
Sirpent Posted February 7, 2010 Author Posted February 7, 2010 Thanks Mick, MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMm I see what you mean, but it's starting to take on a very shark look the more I eye it out. Just got in from the garage having finished the re-alignment of the lower lip and finishing up the headlamp bucket / air dam to guard alignment, the recess looks a lot smaller now and I have decided I will be smoothing the guard out to give it a flowing finish. Some pics (Sorry if this is becoming A.N.A.L. as far as the pics are concerned guys. Cheers John Quote
C.A.R. Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Needs more... Errr... Never mind Looks very shark like actually. Is it aesthetically pleasing to you at this stage mate? Quote
Sirpent Posted February 7, 2010 Author Posted February 7, 2010 Well........... I'll put it to you this way, every time I run my hands over the contours I get a twitch.........LOL No seriously, its like every one says, you have to see it in real life to appreciate the overall effect, but yes Im stoked at this stage, once I can get it in some EP primer, I think the camo effect of the body filler will give way to the contours and shades of the lines. As I said, sorry about all the pics. Cheers John Quote
Sirpent Posted February 9, 2010 Author Posted February 9, 2010 Hi all, Forgot to mention this in my last post.............. As you can all see there is a Shiester load of fibreglass and Bog / Bondo I am using on this prototype bar, went down to Super Cheap on the weekend to stock up on their 2kg Septone Body Filler at around $49.00 a tin, well their EFTPOS machine was out of action, so I stepped next door to Bunnings, in the house paint section I found what is labelled "Builders Bog" in a 4kg tin for $45.00, and while reading it realised it is actually made by K&H, the auto products group. Short story, its the same kit as the autofiller, and worked a treat, so save yourselves about 50% on your Bog needs and go for Builders Bog instead. Cheers John P.S. you can see the can in one of the pics above, it's the green can on the garage floor under the car. Quote
zzzzed Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 i would but i get the top quality stuff from work in the 5 liter tin for the same price hehehe Quote
