RB30X Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Much smoother than the first start but still not purring like a kitten. There's still something effecting idle. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted November 18, 2012 Moderators Posted November 18, 2012 Not sure if these ECU's are like the Z32 computers...I remember if they are disconnected for too long the have to re learn and usually have an idle that hunts and not smooth...Just a guess! Its great to hear running at least! Quote
zzzzed Posted November 18, 2012 Author Posted November 18, 2012 Yeh there are a few clamps that havnt been put on just yet. The one that is probebly hurting the most is the one missing from the turbo inlet I bought one today but havnt had tome to fit it. It is early days yet and am just happy to have it running Quote
lightmaster240z Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Thank Mike. Now It time for Chinese food and good video, In the office and no customer to annoy me. Bruce Quote
Fairlady Z Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 woohoo its ALIVE!!!!!! good on ya Mick. Geez i miss the RB sound and only been without it for 2 weeks. so going to be ready for the 25th at Gregs? It better be. My chook cooker is going to be there so got to have few more Zs to outweigh the other models present at a Z get together. Quote
zzzzed Posted November 19, 2012 Author Posted November 19, 2012 Nah mate ill be there in the blue one. Still a lot that needs to be done to this one before its on the road. Quote
zzzzed Posted November 24, 2012 Author Posted November 24, 2012 I have it running a whole lot better now. Number 4 cylinder was not firing. After changing spark plugs and testing coil packs it was no different. Just when I was about to attack the injectors I thought "hang on. I might just give the ecu plug a wiggle". As zoo. As I touched it it was like it hit a smooth patch of road. It now runs purrrrfect. I'm stoked because now I can concentrait o. The rest of the car. Quote
adam Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 Just finished reading this thread from beginning to end and I love this car. Your youtube videos are great Quote
zzzzed Posted November 24, 2012 Author Posted November 24, 2012 Ok my next set back is a bit of a mystery. My tail shaft is two long. Even though this set up came From Benny's 240z. It is about 30mm to long. The only thing I can think of is there may be a veriation in cross members between models. I checked out the video of the engine Benny sent me when it was in his car and it does appeare that the engine sits thurther back in my bay than it did in Benny's. I shall now have my tail shaft shortened so I will fit. Quote
benny Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 mick is it possible your moustache bar is around the wrong way?? Quote
Retro Z Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 +1 for Bennys response. I used a 240z r180 moustache bar backwards with the bolt holes slotted on my r200 and had the same problem. I then changed to the proper 260z r200 moustache bar and the whole diff moved back about an inch and the tailshaft fitted perfect. The r200 moustache bar can fit either way and trust me...i found out the hard way. Is your moustache bar mounted in front or behind the L brackets hangers for control arm. Quote
zzzzed Posted November 24, 2012 Author Posted November 24, 2012 You guys are legends. I turned it around and now the shaft fits. The only reason I put it in that way was because I copied how it was in my blue 260z two seater. I didn't click that the 260 has an r180 in it. Quote
zzzzed Posted November 24, 2012 Author Posted November 24, 2012 Not quite. I still have plenty to do before its ready for leaving the driveway. I hope to have it ready before Xmas. Quote
dat240z Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 If uve upgraped to an R200 mate, its best to get the r200 bar as the diff bolts wont line up with the 180 Quote
Ledge Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Hi Mick Looking forward to seeing your car, let me know when your cruisin past Barker and we shall catch up. Cheers Quote
zzzzed Posted November 25, 2012 Author Posted November 25, 2012 If uve upgraped to an R200 mate, its best to get the r200 bar as the diff bolts wont line up with the 180 Erm yeh. All this time I was thinking my 240z was an r200 when in actual fact it is an r180. My 260z had the r200. So the r180 from my 240z is going to replace the noisy r200 in my 260z. And all the r200 hard wear from my 260z is going to be used to fit the dr30 r200 3.9 LSD I just bought for my 240z. Confused yet? Hi Mick Looking forward to seeing your car, let me know when your cruisin past Barker and we shall catch up. Cheers Yeh mate. I will be out catching up with every one once this one is on the road. Probebly won't be untill the new year though. Quote
zzzzed Posted December 23, 2012 Author Posted December 23, 2012 So any way. I put some registration on my 240z today for the first time in almost 7 years. So the story goes with the first drive. I didn't get far before I noticed a pretty bad rattle coming from the rear of the car when I reached about 20 Kmh. So I put it up on the jack stands and all I can see wrong is that the tail shaft has a fear amount of play in the uni joint. So I think I will be pulling it out and having it rebuilt after all. As soon as I have that sorted I will be able to drive it to jazmac for a tune Quote
Ledge Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Hi Mick, Steve won't be open till the 7th I think. If you haven't been the before tell him i Sent you there. He will look after you as he Is a good friend of mine. You had better let me know when your going So i can have looksy. Cheers Paul Quote
zzzzed Posted December 23, 2012 Author Posted December 23, 2012 Yeh I prob won't get there till late feb because I will be moving house again some time in janruary. I will sure let you know. I need to see if I can con him in to doing it on a Saturday for me. I think the timing might be out as I had to change the cas from one engine to another. It will also need a boost leak test. I didn't get to give it much shit but it did seem to come on boost way to late even for an rb20det. Quote
dat240z Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Did you put the diff strap back on? or a decent solid top diff mount for the increased power? Quote
zzzzed Posted December 23, 2012 Author Posted December 23, 2012 Yes the did strap is in place an I have a rubber did mound I will be using when I fit the LSD. The tailshaft it's self has quite a bit of play in the uni joints. It sounded like there was was something hitting the tail shaft but it was all clear. Quote
zzzzed Posted December 24, 2012 Author Posted December 24, 2012 Just worked out there is nothing wrong with my tail shaft. The noise was my brake line hitting my half shaft. I am squishing those bugs one by one. Quote
Roberto Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 I wouldn't mind a looksy soon as well. You must be happy to have it finally moving despite those little bugs. Quote
