Dragonball240z Posted June 17, 2020 Author Posted June 17, 2020 I purchased the Kia seals from the wreakers. 2 hours ago, gilltech said: Can/did you buy the Kia seals new or are they only available second-hand? What year(s)? I've already put new repro S30 door seals on my 260 as the originals were perished, but they're too fat and haven't squashed down, PITA as after two and a half years I still have to slam the doors I'm pretty sure you could get them brand new from Kia. The are off a 1998- 2002 Kia Sportage gilltech 1 Quote

gilltech Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 Thanks for that, much appreciated! Yes this is for a 2-seater. Quote
Dragonball240z Posted July 12, 2020 Author Posted July 12, 2020 Finally getting a chance to post again with some more progress. The original diamond vinyl trim was cleaned up and reinstalled into the car. We also cut and installed some carpet underlay. I need to source some carpet and choose a colour. I'm thinking of going a gety to lighten up the interior. Ponyo240z 1 Quote
Dragonball240z Posted July 12, 2020 Author Posted July 12, 2020 We have also tackled the roof and front pillar vinyls using our own patterns and the materials in the pics. I sourced some closed cell foam from clarke rubber, and the vinyl was left over from my dads last project. The contact adhesive we used is made to deal the heat generated off the roof. Dragonball240z Posted July 12, 2020 Author Posted July 12, 2020 We sprayed the adhesive on on the foam and the roof. We made sure not to spray all they way to the edge of the roof (see cardboard in first pic) and the foam. This was very important to achieve the result that we did. If the adhesive went all the way we wouldn't have been able to tuck the vinyl & foam in (see third pic). Ponyo240z, theremm, gav240z and 1 other 4 Quote
Dragonball240z Posted July 12, 2020 Author Posted July 12, 2020 For the next step we put a bit of adhesive on the top of the vinyl, then locked it in with a pvc pinchweld. Adhesive was then added body work under the foam (we didn't put any on the foam so we can work any kinks out at a later stage) and the last 20mm of the vinyl. The vinyl was folded over the pinch weld and stuck to the body work. The door seal will also help lock it all in. Quote
Dragonball240z Posted July 12, 2020 Author Posted July 12, 2020 The drivers side pillar vinyl was stuck directly into the bodywork. This same process was used to complete the front and the passenger side roof vinyl. I was super stoked with the results... over the next couple of days, my dad wasn't happy with a couple of fine creases and managed to work them out. SO the finish was even better. The last photo probably doesn't do it justice. I will try get a better one in the coming days in better light Ponyo240z and theremm 2 Quote

Dragonball240z Posted November 25, 2020 Author Posted November 25, 2020 It has been a while since I have updated this thread. Since August I have made good progress to to try and meet my goal of having her on the road by Christmas. There was a massive delay on getting some key parts from america due to some very ordinary customer service. One of the jobs we tackled was to install the new shocks (Koni Yellows) and king springs. These coil spring clamps worked a treat. The install went relatively smoothly. Ponyo240z and 240ZBUILTBYME 2 Quote
Dragonball240z Posted November 25, 2020 Author Posted November 25, 2020 The colour of the shocks are very close to the exterior paint (the only reason why I didn't go Koni reds ). Ponyo240z 1 Quote
Dragonball240z Posted November 25, 2020 Author Posted November 25, 2020 Then we worked on refurbing the rear brakes From this.. To this.. Bruce, AndBir, Ponyo240z and 2 others 5 Quote
Dragonball240z Posted December 2, 2020 Author Posted December 2, 2020 The next job was to go refurb/ replace the front brakes. These probably hadn't been been used for the last 20 years. They were ceased and the brake fluid channels were blocked solid. The only for me was to split the brake caliper. Cleaned, sprayed, new seals etc looking through my photos, I don't have one of them installed in the car Ponyo240z and 240ZBUILTBYME 2 Quote
