Neighbour here in Brisbane, just picked up a 2+2 Silver, been resprayed, from Gold Coast.

$2000

He knew it was too good to be true, started poking, prodding, etc, and has found lots of smallish, (5 c to 10c coin size) rust holes in floors, rails, battery tray, wiper motor well, the usual spots, but he is as keen as mustard to fix it himself, has good welding skills!

Best thing, the motor runs very nice, no rattles, was rebuilt some 20,000 km ago!

I'll get him onto here for the resource he may need!

Hes 48, and its his first ever Z

That was advertised at 3k last week we discussed a front end smack at some point in its life. Now listed again at 12k but revised to neg.

Can't help but feel new owner is just looking to flip for profit. Not that I'm against that but potential buyers should know.

My bad, that's what happens when you quote something on a mobile device, after jet lag and no sleep...

This is the car I was referring to.

See posts.

For more discussions it was listed not very long ago at $3,500. New owner wants 10K has done nothing to it other than move it from the looks of it. Fair enough if you spot a bargain but any potential buyers might want to know about the front-end being replaced (more than likely) at some point. It may have been done properly etc.. It's also now listed as a 72, not a 70.

The above lime green one was trying to sell on a FB page with expressions of interest said it had been in  a flood, but the gumtree add doen't not mention it.

Late 260z 2 seater in less than ideal shape. Missing the top half. Maybe good for a convertible conversion?

Out near Newcastle NSW. Listing says $Free

I would be interested in going to look at it for sections of the body, but won't be back in Australia for another week or 2.

I find it hard to believe someone will do that to it. At this stage I think it would be restored. I did think about cutting it up though, mostly because I want a rear 1/4 panel on the driver side. So if someone does this and doesn't need it please let me know?

I could also be keen on the windscreen haha.

What are peoples thoughts on this? Is this overpriced?

http://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/details/Datsun-240Z-1973/OAG-AD-10474825/?Cr=0

Depends on what you're looking for, it looks like an honest car but you would want to know more about it's history, was it repainted and when and did it go to bare metal? How is the underside of the car and common rust prone areas? There is quite a few items that are not original, gear knob, choke knob is broken, radiator is aftermarket, airbox is missing, bonnet badge is gone. Hard to tell on the angle of the photo but bonnet may have had a nudge in the past as the swage line on it looks a little droopy and it's usually a very defined sharp line.

It looks like someone put some kind of temporary bench seat in there, not sure if it's permanently attached but certainly not original. Seats are late 260z (77/78 model).

If it was well restored apart from a few odd parts mixed in over different years and you want a turn key car that doesn't require restoration it might not look like a bad deal in the next 5 - 10 years if you buy it now, with the way the market is moving.

However the seller is a dealer and doesn't appear to know much about them, they are also charging quite a bit of mark up also.

short answer yes :) its not an early 240 or 100% original....knock 10-14 grand off the top and you are in the ball park i reckon.

Thanks for the responses Gav and 74zzz, I am a little new to the 240Z scene, but thought as much. There is so much to be aware of when buying a classic car, good to know people on here are willing to share their expertise :)

Furthermore, and I know this is off topic but, is there a general buyers advice thread somewhere on the forum?
