I find it annoying that car ads on some sites never seem to be removed - its very misleading. Maybe some do it to pretend they have more active listings than they really have.

This is a big part of it, they want it to look like their sites are more active and have more active inventory than they actually do. The smart user though  knows which sites are relevant, (in Australia only a couple are actually relevant, CarSales and Gumtree/eBay).

The rest is well.... fluff...

Just to be clear - I wasn't having a go at you about the age of the ad oldmates260Z.

I can't see anything on the ad showing when it was posted either. When I said it was 4 years old, I was just going from the matching description, location and price that I saw on zzzzed's 2011 post about this car. I guess it's possible that it has been for sale ever since.

No worries, was upset with myself for not picking it up :)

1968 Datsun 'Fairlady' 2000 Sports Roadster

GUIDING RANGE

$28,000 - $32,000

http://www.shannons.com.au/auctions/2015-shannons-melbourne-spring-classic-auction/datsun-fairlady-2000-sports-roadster/#.Vefw4O8ViV1

THAT just sold for $43,000,

With the incorrect carbies ( HitachiSU in place of original Solex 44's)

and rather poorly cut and reshaped rear arches.

Now who'd like a complete correct one?

I'm not surprised Shannon's got it wrong, they don't seem to know their Japanese market very well in my opinion. Although it appears they are trying based on some recent videos they have done.

I chickened out buying 1 in Ireland a few years back.

I couldn't live with the idea of keeping a car like that outside in the weather where I was living and I thought I'd buy something more modern. I sometimes wonder what it would have been like had I bought the Fairlady instead though.

Shannons were pretty accurate up to then on the estimates.  The local bidding stopped at $34,000, which was pretty fully priced, this has a US spec motor, flared rear arches, non original headrests etc, but overall pretty nice to look at and drive.  Bidders from the Gold Coast and Drummoyne took it to the final price.  So someone on the Goldie has $42.5k to spend on a good one....

This is a regretful sale as I have been moved interstate with work and no longer can store this project. VIN number: HS30 103505 Build 9⁄73

This car is complete, minus the engine and gearbox, which were sold. The last photo shows what it looked like before I started stripping it down. All panels and parts are there. It is no longer a rolling shell, but can be moved easily as it is not too heavy without the engine and gearbox.

Body is straight and mimimal rust in the usual places.

Please call to discuss if interested, happy to chat, no text or email ping pong, too many scammers.

No holds, not sold till picked up, will consider deposits to genuine buyers.

Collingwood Park is a suburb of Ipswich.

Could always give them a call, pretend to be interested in a 240z and ask what the last 1 sold for? :)

I think it will go overseas personally. Given the weak $AUD it probably wasn't a bad buy for a buyer in the right part of the world.

Hey Gav , think your probably right , would be a good deal for OS buyer . Quite amazing the prices that the 240's are achieving ! Not the best example, but interesting ,in that my fathers old concours winner TR6 is for sale at $25k and he wouldn't expect to get more than mid 20's for his pretty close to concours winning Stag ( ok , here come the Triumph jokes) But ,as his was a generation that grew up with English , Italian , German sports cars ,with a bit of disdain for the Japanese product  its interesting that the Z is finally getting a bit of cred, re being a collectable classic. Seems that the playing field is being levelled, and, as close to possible original Z's and thoughtful modified examples will hopefully continue to be appreciated .

My sentiments exactly, I'm very partial to original s30z's. I think these cars have had the lime light put on them again since early 2000s when video games started to feature the s30z, I remember getting excited that Gran Turismo 2 on the original PlayStation had a 240ZG.

I lost interest in video games for the most part about 10 years back, but I have noticed more and more games feature these cars, movies, music videos, and many automotive programs have really talked up how good they were. Then you have niche programs like Wangan Midnight etc.. Which is where a lot of people seem to first learn about these cars.

They are well and truly part of pop culture.

I always felt they were underrated and under appreciated. So it was only a matter of time I guess?

I'm just glad I've got the Zeds I do already.

Gav , being a 70's kid , the Z was always the car that I thought was  the epitome of cool !  Question is, how many do you need?

Have my 260 ,ex Dave (Rev Zed's) green car , love it ! 2 seater , hmmm, not , family friendly , so trying to convince the other half

that a good 2+2 would be a good daily , child friendly option ! Not the right forum area, but do you or any of the more experienced Z owners

think that you could have a Z as a roughly 10 -15 km per day as a daily ? As a side note , have had Mini's (never any problems) Triumph dolomite ( probably not best car for maintenance as a teenager) , EJ Holden Premier , (loved it till caught on fire at servo in Woolloomooloo) and VW type 3 Wagon (loved that car ,till engine fell out out on the Harbour Bridge)  We just leased a BMW 1 series for business ( partners dream car ) so selling the Mazda CX7 and 2 ( no money spent during warranty period , great cars , but time to go .

What do you guys think re a 260 2+2 as a limited daily drive ?

I had a 260z 2+2 and it was reliable considering all things, but it was by far the worst S30z I owned. Not because it was a 2+2 but because it had some less than ideal previous owners and had been messed about with.

The only issue with a 260z 2+2 and short journey's is the choke / warm up routine but if you're willing to live with that and forego other luxuries of a modern car it's ok.

I think rust is the bigger issue and will you drive it in all weather? Somewhere safe to park it? There's something to be said about having a throw away car that just gets the job done and you don't have to worry about.

The 2+2 rear seats are ok in terms of space considering but like all 2 door coupe's is a bit of a pain in the butt letting people in and out.

I'm not going to claim I'm an expert on PS30 build numbers and sequences but I'd say it's probably likely it was a 1970 build. Other features of the car would help indicate if this is true. eg: vents in rear hatch, hand throttle / choke / early astray / console etc..

There was about 400 PS30's made inc. the 27-30 PS30-SBs. I believe production of these vehicles wasn't held up like early L24 powered cars which had a crankshaft issue. So it's likely it was built in 1970 but I would guess maybe late/second half of 1970?

He's bought t, along with a couple f Mazda Cosmo Sports, looking to export and on-sell.

The PS30 has the riginal engine, all 432Z fitments, its a genuine car, body shell s showing minor rust ( less than exectation) and would suit a full ground up resto.

I am querying on getting pricing including all export docs ex Japan.

He also looked at an ex Media Nissan 240RS, in full works livery!

So is he planning to keep the PS30? Is he an enthusiast or just someone looking to value add and flip?

Will the PS30 be coming back to Australia?

It has stock S30 twin piston calipers, the MK63's were an option, but he may be able to get the mi63's.

There are a few ther issues with it, some rust, some minor interior not correct.

Car is in his strage shed in Kyoto now.

The other 432 that arrived here recently, will shortly visiting, and , with a few other toys, late November,
