RB26DETT Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I agree with G though, the best examples change hands quietly amongst a select group. Probably because those people want the option of buying it back if they change their mind later and would rather those cars go to people they know or have known for years. I recently did just that. Had to sell my blue 260z two seater. I sold it to a guy I know with the option to buying it back if he saw to sell later on. I think I'll be waiting for at least ten years though!! Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted May 8, 2015 Author Administrators Posted May 8, 2015 Anyone care to tell me what's wrong with this car? http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Datsun-260Z-1974/SSE-AD-2924557/?Cr=13 She's been on the market a while now... Quote
dat240z Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 We just dont have a market in Aus for the LHD z's..... It looks clean enough though Quote

dat240z Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Looks pretty clean, but can never understand sellers who upload 1 picture only.. WTF... Or perhaps a tactic to initiate interest/discussion Quote
Riceburner Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 We just dont have a market in Aus for the LHD z's..... It looks clean enough though Yep +1. I have seen some pretty nice roadsters for sale but the LHD seems to make them a lot less valuable too. The painted stainless and chrome trim doesn't suit the car at all IMHO. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted May 8, 2015 Author Administrators Posted May 8, 2015 So 2 identical cars both good condition. But 1 is LHD the other RHD how much value does LHD lose? Quote
Riceburner Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Personally I wouldn't even look at a LHD car or buy one. Given the amount of info included on the 35K car I'd say it's over priced. The picture and short description is not very enticing. I think James Flett's orange 240 was advertised at 35K. Now that seems like much better value! Quote
oldmates260z Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I am guessing a few have looked at the LHD Zed and it may be in much worse condition that it looks like on the net. I considered it but the cost to convert turned me off. Here is another Zed with one photo: http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/byford/cars-vans-utes/1974-datsun-260z-2-2/1078147886 Quote
Riceburner Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 They could all be very good cars, but the effortless listings with a lack of detailed pictures and descriptions I find quite off putting. Quote

Now that seems like much better value! Don't think James Flett's was that cheap, I seem to recall around 60K. *edit found the link* http://allclassiccars.com.au/datsun-240z/ I am guessing a few have looked at the LHD Zed and it may be in much worse condition that it looks like on the net. Hence I think that's why it hasn't sold. I was hoping maybe someone here had seen it and could offer their opinion. Quote
G Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I don't know the seller, but for serious interstaters I would be happy to check out the Essendon car. It's not that far from me. Lazy advertising mystifies me as well... Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted May 8, 2015 Author Administrators Posted May 8, 2015 I recall the Essendon car being advertised a while ago on another website, me thinks that's just a stale listing. Quote
G Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Could be. I called up about another car on there and it was gone as well. Quote

CroS13 Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 Anyone care to tell me what's wrong with this car? http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Datsun-260Z-1974/SSE-AD-2924557/?Cr=13 She's been on the market a while now... well its had a fresh respray and they have just painted all the chrome red. But i think the number 1 issue is when they haven't even attempted to bog the rust, like don't even worry about that, just paint over the rust holes. when you see photos like this, and its only in the door, your going to have a bad time........ it reminds me of a car i went to see when i bought my zed around 2 years ago, first photo was.... meh......... start looking around..... and there was holes in the A pillar, like 10c piece holes near the bottom, this was from the inside, and the chassis rails were swiss cheese! now if i recall, a kid from Queensland bought the car, drove it home. He started a build thread on here, i remember he started to repair it, doing a bit of rust repair on the wheel arch, bits here and there, then started to uncover the horrors, as in the whole rear quarter was just bog and chicken wire, after that post he didn't post again, that was 2 years ago! i think that red one will be in exactly the same condition, worn rubbers, holes in the top of the door, in visible areas, places you would at least try and fix, so if they don't care about the holes in the door, whats the rest of it going to look like? and its LHD, that automatically makes everything a PITA, going through maccas drive through? better have one of those claws to reach the register with your money, how about going to a parking lot, how will you grab your ticket? (i know you would never leave it at a shopping mall but still you get the idea) Rudolf. Quote
dat240z Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 So 2 identical cars both good condition. But 1 is LHD the other RHD how much value does LHD lose? LHD = half the value of RHD I think Quote

I have owned the car for 9 years. Always garaged and very well maintained. Mechanically excellent and close to original specification with the addition of: - 240z carbs - Koni shocks - 280zx 5 speed manual gearbox - Performance camshaft Interior restored to original appearance with wooden momo steering wheel. Body is in very good condition as is the paint. Plenty of spares included in the price, including the original (unpainted) front grille setup and a spare chrome bumper. I'm moving to the US so a quick sale is required and reflected in the price for this great example of a classic 70s sportscar. Car will come serviced and RWC can be negotiated. Quote
