Andrew_L26 Posted July 5, 2015 Share Posted July 5, 2015 Hello All, I have been lurking around these forums for a while now and dreaming of owning a classic z for quite a few years. Anyway I will cut to the chase, I'm 17 and I have just sealed the deal (putting a deposit down tonight ) for my very first car which is a questionably purple 260z 2+2 It is currently unregistered and a fair way off being roadworthy. I have fairly basic mechanical know-how however I have a few connections. I currently have no other plans other then to get this beauty on the road. It is defiantly a project and there is most certainly allot more then meets the eye with this car especially as these photos were taken around 2010. Anyways, there will be more when I get her home Also, I understand that the paint is disgusting and who knows what was going through the pre-pre owner's head haha Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If I coud make one suggestion, get the car evaluated by someone who really knows Z's before you spend any significant money working it. Would be nice to see some photos of the bus as she looks today. This was probably a real Chick magnet back in the day. Just have a good check under the back seats for used prophylactics, moustache trimmings and IDs with the name Alvin. When I checked over the car the rear diff was leaking oil, I'm assuming its just the gasket as it looked pretty munted. Also they often leak from the side seals which you can get from bearing suppliers (last one I got was about $15). Be careful with the ebay side seals as I brought one recently and it was no where near right. I think it was a front pinion seal. Make sure the breather is clear. Owns a red 260z 2+2 that is often parked at Lilydale station with the plate starting with IRI. Where are you located as I am picking it up in Philip Island (Beware of the salt air ) and I could maybe drop by if it is on the way. No I don't believe that's correct, AFAIK & the info I have for the Australasian market, on 260s the auto cars got the R180 & only the manual cars got the R200. The R200 is bigger & heavier & uses different half shafts too, & is 1:3.7 vs the 3.545 of the R180 IIRC. The diffs usually start to leak around the half shafts first, but the front seal can also leak. Not usually the lid gasket as others have said. And the rubber boots on the half shafts perish over time & allow grease to flick around. You're most likely right, I never drive and have never owned an auto so "my bad", but all the 2+2's Ive owned and have seen had R200's and I just presumed they all had them because they were a bigger and heavier car. gilltech Posted July 7, 2015 Share Posted July 7, 2015 Well check the engine bay, check under the carpets & rear seat, better yet well up under the dash, or behind the taillight interior trim panel, for signs of original factory paint overspray on original primer. I have Z paint colours somewhere but not to hand. Pretty sure there was a metallic purple but it was darker & more blue-ish than that, IIRC.
